Since we have been the most inform team in the league with massively improved defence lead by Maguire, I expect us to win the game. Onana will be furious after what he did in the CL and he will come out strong against the magpies. Our attack has already improved as we have scored 6 goals in our last 2 games. Newcastle have a team full of injuries.

I just really wish we could turn up here and be Manchester United for once.

We will, just wait and see - But perhaps you need to adjust your perception of who United are. Instead of remembering who they were.

8pm on a Saturday.. that's useless ko time imo 3rd one.. won the last 2. What's wrong with 5.30 Sat or 12 am Sunday or 2pm Sunday etc .. Tv.. we all know that .. can see us getting a result up there..

Didn’t realise they had so many injuries.

Not getting any points would be hard to stomach. I look at the League Cup tie as a one-off.

If our keeper can put in a proper shift — which was not the case against Galatasaray but very much was the case against Everton — we’ll beat Newcastle.

But if our keeper drops turds…

We'll start well, go 1-0 up, be relatively dominant then someone will get a soft red/penalty and we'll capitulate 1-5

This 100% I wouldn't even mind a bit of Hannibal in there rather than the usual rubbish.

Eversince the Saudi takeover and the shopping spree in the winter of the 21/22 season Newcastle have only lost 3 games at home in the EPL (1 vs. Arsenal, 2 vs. Liverpool), it's an incredibly tough ground to visit. Still hope United wipe the floor with the state owned plaything, of course.

    Newcastle-bellend

Be quite a dent into our hopes of European football next season if we fail to get anything from a team hit with injuries. If we play like we did on Wednesday but without a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime in goal, we should get something from it.

That's gonna be one hell of a game, Newcastle can barely find 11 fit players to wield atm.

8pm kick off, freezing night away to a team who treat us like a cup final.
Even with a number of players out it doesn't scream promise.

Everton away didn't either, but then they are utter guff.

I like that line-up but don't think Varane will play and can't see Rashford and Mctominay being dropped.

Would it count as being dropped for Rashy when he didn't play midweek? I know he was suspended, but he's currently not in the team.

Horse racing in Newcastle cancelled tomorrow due to weather, hopefully our match is not in danger.

They've won 6 of 7 at home in the league, outscoring their opponents 18-4 in those matches.

If the weather is shite they're going to dump all kinds of speculative shots into the box, with the understanding that Onana will make a meal out of at least a couple of them.

Put it this way, it was nice seeing our goal differential not in the red for one round.

Only thing I am wondering about is will we get embarrassed and Newcastle will walk it with ease or will we score a goal or two and then fall apart. Newcastle are getting the 3 points either way.

We know Varane won’t play. Hes clearly fallen out with EtH, doubt we see him again unless theirs injuries.

Id put Shaw at CB over Lindelof.

Last chance saloon for Onana. Any howlers here and he’s dropped next week.

    Onana
    AWB - Maguire - Shaw - Regulion
    Mainoo - McSauce
    Rashford - Bruno - Garnacho
    Hojlund

I know people hope Rashford is dropped but I think being fresh is going to be a massive advantage here. Eddie Howe didn't make any changes Tuesday night and they were out on their feet for last 20 mins and have no bench.

If we play Mainoo and Amrabat who neither played a full game for us, Rashford who is fresh and both Garnacho and Hojund who were spared 90 mins I think we should have enough to win this. We just need a solid defensive performance for once which we may get with the two midfielders previously mentioned.

This will be the beginning of our league position propped up by scraping against us lower sides getting exposed.

Newcastle player with extra recovery day, and playing at home (less travel) would balance the advantage of some tens minute of rest for someone like Garnacho who burst his lungs and ran out of steam in Galatasaray game.

Football is not maths where accumulation of minutes in game decides freshness. Hojlund was out injured and didn't play previous games, but looked much less energetic against Galatasaray than usual for example. Bruno seems never when he's barely rested all season.

That extra day while playing home after a shorter flight away to Paris is definitely advantageous for them in term of fitness. Quality wise, midfield is a concern. Newcastle has the tools to penetrate and overrun our midfield and without chances prevention, we're likely in for rude awakening regarding our defensive quality. Newcastle had scored 31 goals in the league for a reason. They're clinical enough when they have the chance unlike the like of bottom half team we had played for past few rounds.

Cant believe all the moaning, i saw a much improved performance against Gala, had it not been for Onana, we would have won 1-3. He will be fired up and EtH shouldn't drop him, he needs backing and when he gets it, he'll turn it around quicker.

We will beat them comfortably. Bet my house on it.

Hope you have somewhere else to live….

Expect we will get battered by the unstoppable Geordie Arabia. Having not watched a single minute of their games in the league and only having the media on which to judge, Newcastle are quite possibly the greatest team to have ever played the game, a relentless machine vastly superior to all who challenge them. They are the one, true United, behold the Geordies.

It's clear Manchester U's have no chance. Unworthy of the name United. For shame.

Feels surreal that we are actually ahead of them in the table.
Feels surreal that we have reached that position while only scoring 16 goals, with a GD of 0.
While Newcastle have scored 31 and have a GD of +17

    LIES!!

How dare you speak ill of the Geordie Gods. Beneath the puny U's of Manchester? Impossible.

I'd start Varane but seems like that won't happen. Mainoo-McTominay-Bruno midfield seems like most logical. Question for me is whether Rashford will start at RW or ST. He might work as striker as Newcastle will probably dominate for large parts of the game so perhaps there'll be some spaces for him to exploit. Either that or him starting as RW and Hojlund/Martial up top.

Think Newcastle are definitely favourites here. I'll be surprised if we somehow win it.

If we win here I think we are in a pretty decent shape considering all the moaning.

    If we win....

    Damn!
You have no confidence in the mentality of our players.
1 soft goal and we'll collapse.

You get the legs in midfield and players that can handle the ball and you get the pace on the counter. This is just wishful thinking we will never see a line up like this even in a cup game or friendly.

I quite enjoy these kind of games nowadays. Zero expectations cause we dem plucky underdogs nowadays. Well plucky at times at least. See once you are able to forget about the past successes, the pride, the expectations, it becomes just a game. So what if we suck at it right now. Stay in the present and pucker up before every game.
