Decent team but i would have liked to see Dalot or Lingard starting, our right side is non existent there.

What’s the deal with all the Valencia:nervous: hate here? Yes, I know he’s been really bad lately, but so has plenty of other players. Look at Matic, everyone (me included) wanted him as far away from the team as possible, and now he’s playing really well. Give Valencia a chance to play a game or two under Ole before giving him all this hate, please.
He's been bad ever since early months of last year i.e. the later half of last season -- his attacking has gotten worse and worse towards the end, still defensively strong.

That and early half of this season -- his attacking is gone while his defending also gotten worse.

So that's why the "hate on Valencia" :nervous: we need our FBs to be good at attacks providing constant width, not just defending, even worse if so bad at both. It's really more due to many of us are worried he'll play bad again.

Hopefully he'll turn his form around better this year, starting with this game.

I would think rotation and fear of injuries due to tiredness have dictated team selection today. Surprised Rashford has started.

Ugh, Valencia. But I suppose he has to give everyone a chance.

Good XI though. Should be enough to win the league game.

Hopefully Sanchez can come on and resemble a footballer for once. Games in short succession favour the better squads so we should win here no excuses.

It's just a rest. I imagine that he'll start the FA cup game while Rashford gets rest.

Personally I would have rested Martial, Lingard and Rashford completely against Reading and played all 3 tonight, with Lukaku, Sanchez and Mata starting on Saturday, but we'll see how this plays out.

Fellaini is not in the squad despite not playing much since Ole took over. I'm sure media will pick up on this and there'll be speculation regards his future. If Ole's blueprint is to play as he's began then I can't see him being part of the plan over the remaining season.

Thought we'd never again have to bear witness to the Mata/Valencia right wing horror-show.

    Feck sake Ole.

Good picks. Valencia is a weak point, but him being club captain is a decision that Ole inherited and he has no choice but to give him a chance. Hopefully either Valencia will surprise us, or (more likely) failing that, it’ll be quickly apparent that he doesn’t deserve a starting position and he can warm the beach all season.

That he did not even travel indicates to me that he is injured or sick. No need to read to much into this IMO.

I'm going to say it'll be different with Ole as manager. He likes his attackers to push further up the field and to get numbers in the box. This leaves space on the wings and on the edge of the box (as we've already seen with improved shooting chances for Pogba and Rashford). And so Valencia is a good addition to the right in that he has some pace still and can overlap when Mata comes inside.

Have to think Rashford sits vs Reading so he has a 10 day break before Spurs. Lukaku will probably start vs Reading and get his fitness up and then it's possible he starts at Tottenham.

I was hoping the disappearance of Fellaini from the squad would go entirely unnoticed, that he'd just fade into obscurity, never to be heard from again.

    Guess that was a pipedream.

    Let’s bloody hope so!

Neville referencing the Sanchez bet thing like it’s gospel. Cretin.

Good luck to Mata and Valencia. Hope they prove us all wrong, but I suspect out right hand side will be slower and there will be less interchange up front.

    Hope to be proven wrong.

Mata doesn't have the legs to play an attacking role in this team imo.

I agree with this. I would only ever want to see him in a midfield role. As a forward he is just too slow and weak. BUT.....I really don't want to spend my life complaining about line ups. Good managers make teams more than the sum of their parts. So lets see what this team can do. I'm definitely happy with our midfield three, and it's good to see no Fellaini on the bench. Sorry Marouanne.

Is he? Looks like a right back to me? Like for like for Young.
Indeed. In the last few games our fullbacks have been positioned so much higher up the pitch than previous manager(s) allowed us. Basically referring to that and hoping it will allow Valencia to rediscover some of his attacking nous.

Neville has turned into a complete shithouse pundit. Especially when he talks about United.

Ha this is the first time I'm seeing the refs warmup. Never knew they did
