Mata wasn't playing particularly great but he was still getting on the ball quite a lot, even in deeper areas. We gave that up and suddenly every ball started coming straight back at us and Middlesbrough had all the possession. That is no coincidence. We played right into their hands with that sub. And not putting 4 out and out central defenders on the pitch is not exactly "pushing players forward". We weren't leaving anything open at the back before that sub, it was well balanced.
