Hopefully we are good enough to beat West Brom without needing two limited defensive mids. I’d love to play a possession based game with our better players. I’d like to see DVB play tomorrow
Aaaargh!?!? What is it with this initialisation?

VDB surely? Nobody called Edwin van der Sar EVS did they?

Time to show some balls. If i see us lining up with 2 cdm at home vs West Brom...

Perfect chance to get Pogba into form, play him high up alongside Bruno for once.

    Hope to see:
    - van de Beek -
    Bruno - Pogba
I agree but we shouldn't change too much, just rest Bruno and start Pogba in his position ahead od Fred and McTominay.

Yeah that would work too if Bruno needs a rest. The key is that we show the initiative to break down the bus.

    Why?

Two cdms and two attacking fullbacks is a more attacking formation than one cdm and two balanced fullbacks.

If we had any balls, we'd play play Fred and McTominay to allow the team to attack more freely.

Didn’t we sign a young winger from South America? What’s his status?

Two DMs sitting in front of the defence against West Brom is wrong no matter what our fullbacks do. Plus full backs should attack no matter.

People going on with this "resting" stuff. It is not a game to get Pogba fit or someone else. It is a game to get 3 points. We need to pick up pace and the best team should play. We don't know status on some players after internationals but hopefully we can play with a very good team.

Fullbacks will drop back if they have to cover for gaps in midfield. Plus midfielders should attack no matter.

Can’t break apart that league best Fred & McAverage axis which has seen us storm our way to 14th. . . but I thought Fred was the most underrated midfielder in England & McSauce was well, saucy. . . nevermind.

You’re right, we should be more ambitious.

CM's and AM's even wingers can drop back too. Point is our two DM's don't attack, have you ever seen either of them run into the opposition box? They just sit there and let the other 4 do the attacking.

    I'd play this.
    De Gea
    AWB Tuanzebe Maguire Telles
    Pogba Fred
    Bruno VdB
    Rashford Martial
But I won't be surprised to see McT and Mata, suggested by Phelan I guess... resulting in something like this

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
    ------------McT--------Fred------------

    -----------Mata--Bruno--Rashford
    Martial

Football is a team game. You can't just judge a team by how much hype there is around the individuals.

The team scores more goals with two cdms on the pitch.

Who said we need to play defensive fullbacks with one cdm? That's how Barca/City & Bayern storm deep teams, they have the one holding, and the rest including the full-backs right up the pitch providing the width.

We usually have AWB & Shaw (defensive full-backs) alongside 2 cdms, that's 4 players contributing next to nothing in attack and we wonder why we can't break down teams at home?

Having one of them is fine, or both for extremely tricky away ties, but we should never be seeing them together at home. Way too conservative.

I can't believe you're being so categorical about a 2 game sample. Goodness me.

Do you think 1 or 2 games are enough to judge anything? It doesn't even say which teams they were against, possession, how many chances created etc. These stats are pointless really.

I was happy whenever we start Fred and Matic or Fred and McTominay as our midfield.
Pogba should be back up to Bruno playing no.10 and I wouldn't mind selling Pogba for a decent sum because van de Beek now that can be a good back up to Bruno.

That doesn't make much sense considering almost all the points we've dropped came when we used other combinations. We've only used them as a two man midfield three times for two wins and a draw. Meanwhile when we haven't used that combination we've lost three and won one (I include the Arsenal match here since we played a diamond with Pogba in there as well).

In saying that I don't think we need them both today and hope to see someone with a bit more playmaking ability next to Fred (even if its just Matic).

Look at the sample size you're judging them off of. It's only a few games. There's no reason why Pogba/VDB and Bruno can't start together. We're talking about quality players here. Everyone was saying it wouldn't work at City when Guardiola took over with a Silva & KDB midfield. But top managers make it work with their best players.

At home we should never be seeing 2 cdms vs the cannon fodder. Especially when we have got defensive full-backs too. It's absurd.

The reason WE can't play only 1 CDM is because our front 4 are ALL inconsistent and this means we can't outscore our opponents on a regular consistent basis. We MUST play 2 CDMs, which makes us more solid defensively and then hope enough of our front 4 play well enough to score goals and get us the win.

That's a cop out. I'm not buying it. There's no way 4 players are enough to break down teams on a regular basis. The reason why they're 'all inconsistent' is because they can only pull so much magic out of their ass every week. If we can't get more players attacking, that is a coaching problem, which is on the manager.

Scott and Fred isnt a defensive midfield?

When they contribute next to nothing in attack, they definitely are compared to our other options. We don't need both at home. Especially when we play defensive full-backs too (Hopefully Telles will play tonight but still).

What's the no.1 way you break down deep defences? You stretch the play with the full-backs high & wide, with quick passes from side to side. How many times have you seen us play balls across the face of the goal from our full-backs? We almost never see it.

Its recently felt like I have to wait a considerable time for a United match.

Of course it's a small sample size but I was responding directly to someone saying that Fred/McTominay had led us to 14th. That's simply not the case in any way.

    My prediction
    De Gea
    Bissaka - Tuanzebe - Maguire - Telles
    Fred - Mctominay
    Bruno
    Rashford - Cavani - Martial
