Was Rashford not injured against Arsenal? I thought he came off injured. Certainly looked injured just before he came off.

He was knackered.
Think it'd be cruel to drop Lingard for Martial, he and Varela are a very good combination, both of Rashford's goals came from the right with the pair getting an assist. Lingard's defensive work rate is excellent too.
I only see Carrick being replaced by Smalling. Martial maybe come off the bench if needed. May as well give him a further rest.Think it'd be cruel to drop Lingard for Martial, he and Varela are a very good combination, both of Rashford's goals came from the right with the pair getting an assist. Totally agree. It is a double edged sword. Replace him, may knock him as he is young. Play him, he may get an injury, or be ineffective through tiredness, again knocking him. If he plays, hope he has a blinder.I think it depends o how tired Rashford was after the Arsenal game, he looked out on his feet when he came off, for him to play 3 games in less than a week at 18 with no senior football to his name until last Thursday is a big ask.
Didn't say Martial shouldn't get back in the squad, just that Martial shouldn't replace Lingard. I fully agree, Martial needs to start, not sure who should be dropped though, our front 4 these last two games has been another level to what we've been for the rest of the season! Maybe Rashford/Mata should have a rest, Rashford's (although dropping him in this form would be mad) only a kid and Mata's played basically every game he's been fit this season. When Martial is available you play him. We shouldn't forget he's been one of the few positives for a fair while.
Have to bear in mind a lot of players have played 2 games in 4 days already, so another 3 days on, with another at the weekend is a jammed programme.
Darmian being back is an unexpected bonus. Just hope he can refind the early season form.

de Gea
Varela - Smalling - Blind - Rojo
Herrera - Schneiderlin
Lingard - Martial - Memphis
Rashford
Harsh on Mata, but I'd love to see all that pace.
Rashford
Depay - Herrera - Mata
Morgan - Carrick
Rojo - Blind - Smalling - Varela
DDG
Bring on Martial is we are having a problem of scoring.
Hope Smalling, Martial and Darmian are fit. We need to rotate players with a lot of games coming up in a short period of time. Don't want Varela or Rashford to play 3 (almost) full games in 7 days.
De GeaLingard needs a rest too. Looked pretty spent the last game.
Darmian Smalling Blind Rojo
Schneiderlin Herrera
Januzaj Mata Depay
Martial
Will win this 2-1.[/QUOTE
It would be a little weird of you were so excited about this game 4 months ago...For the first time in the past three to four months, I actually cant wait for this game to start.
Was it Sir Alex who once said "a smart manager would never bench an in form striker"?Have a feeling Rashford will be benched.
Exactly. He took a kick to the stones. That is gonna make you walk funny. He was knackered.
Why would you not like to see Mata, Varela or Rashford start? What I think
De Gea
Darmian - Smalling - Blind - Rojo*
Herrera - Schneiderlin
Lingard* - Mata - Memphis
Martial*
Subs: Romero, Carrick, Verela, Mensah*, Pereira, Januzaj*, Rashford*
Wound like to see
De Gea
Darmian...Smalling....Blind...Rojo
Herrera....Schneiderlin
Januzaj........Pereira.........Martial
Memphis
Subs: Romero, Carrick, Verela, Mensah, Mata, Lingard, Rashford
The problem is how tired he looked when he came off against Arsenal. With his youth and inexperience, it's such a huge step up from what he's used to. Will he be able to stay at the same level for the third game in one week, or does he need an extra few days? I'm guessing the latter. Was it Sir Alex who once said "a smart manager would never bench an in form striker"?
So yes, LvG will definitely bench him. Just for the sake of being LvG
-----------De Gea------------
Varela--Smalling-Blind-CBJ
--------Morgan-Herrera------
-------------Mata-------------
----Depay----------Martial---
-----------Rashford----------
Not sure if we will start Rashford or not, but he clearly deserves it. I'd hope we give him the chance. Would prefer Martial over Lingard if he is fit to start, though I think we might see Depay on the left with Lingard on the right and Martial/Rashford up front.

I agree that players should be allowed to continue their good form, but I don't think this kid can play 3 games in 6 days yet. He looked very tired before he was subbed in the Arsenal game.
Anyway, I am hoping for a TFM start, why else would he be left out of the u21 squad completely?
