I think we would've seen youth players if it wasn't for the FA Cup. Jose probably wants the likes of Pogba et al to have some minutes to keep the match fitness for the final.
In that case start some of the youngsters and sub them off (they're hardly going to play 90 minutes anyway). There is long term benefit in that, what possible benefit do we have from playing some of the players that are out there and will definitely leave the club this summer?

I'd just like to point out... McTominay is one of "the kids".

People don't give a shit because he's not flashy enough, most of those moaners wouldn't mind one bit if he fecked off in truth, so much for the 'we play youth' spiel.

Also ignore Rashford because he's been in the squad for 2 years now and he's not Martial.

Not even 15 mins played and full of whining already! Dear Lord!

    Come on now.

But he isnt one of "their youths". Thats the point.

    Yep.

It would tickle me pink if he scores one today.

Would you believe it's a dull, boring game at Old Trafford?

    Come on now.

Its' a dead rubber, the best of teams couldn't be arsed, let alone our team. I would personly like to see us hit 80 points, but that isn't sufficient for me to get invested in style of play, goals etc for this game.

Switch between IPL and the game, not a half bad sunday.

    1. We have a cup final next week so some first team players must get a run out today. Same for some fringe players who will be needed as back ups next week.

    2. It's Carrick's send off so it is a day for his team mates to play alongside him for the last time much more than any other group of players. Under the circumstances, McTominay can double as the symbol of United's youth tradition as he plays beside the departing legend.

    3. Players like Darmian and Blind might just be having their last games for the club.

I think these might be playing in Jose's mind in selecting the squad and one can understand why. He is too much of a winner to risk not preparing the team for next week as he deems best and of course, he has expressed huge respect for Michael Carrick.

The alternative reason will be that he has no regard for our youth tradition and zero regard for the fans. I struggle to see this.

Carrick didn't win much with Blind or Darmian so I doubt that he really couldn't do with out them on the pitch today.
If it is there last game there is no point playing them today.

Meaningless game bar of course its Carricks last. Great personality and a good player. I will admit to beign in the camp of not really rating him the first half of his career here, and I do think he was over rated at that point. Think after the really successful period for the club when things actually started to go down in Fergies last couple of years and the years that have followed he has actually improved and bar DeGea probably been our best player. His experience of reading the game and calmness on the ball playing against a strong press both improved hugely. As for being criminally under rated by England, he should have had more chances but said himself he didnt really take the few opportunities he did get....maybe prolonged his career for us too.
As for the rest of the game, think its a farewell game for a few others too. As with everbody else would have liked to have seen a run out for a youngster or two, it is the one thing made lasgt games interesting for us the last few years with the likes of Januzaj and Gomes when we have had nothing to play for.

Bailly is fun to watch, pity that his season has never really started, get him working on the kinks in his game.

Always wondered why they have that slope around the pitch. Can't be very safe??

    A couple reasons IMO:
    1. Goodwill within the squad. Blind and Romero, for example, have been part of the first team for a few years now. I think it's only fair players like that get the chance to play before the youth players.
    2. With the way transfers work, they may not actually happen. In which case, you want at least a relatively happy player within the squad.

It's clear it can be argued it's the wrong approach. However, I can see the merits for choosing this squad.

He's nice and all but I really hope Mata leaves this summer. We need to be more ruthless and just sell those who really don't do much on the pitch.

Don't think there is much benefit other than forcing them into the limelight. They'll get time on preseason tour and played when they're ready rather than just thrown in because
