    1. We have a cup final next week so some first team players must get a run out today. Same for some fringe players who will be needed as back ups next week.

    2. It's Carrick's send off so it is a day for his team mates to play alongside him for the last time much more than any other group of players. Under the circumstances, McTominay can double as the symbol of United's youth tradition as he plays beside the departing legend.

    3. Players like Darmian and Blind might just be having their last games for the club.

I think these might be playing in Jose's mind in selecting the squad and one can understand why. He is too much of a winner to risk not preparing the team for next week as he deems best and of course, he has expressed huge respect for Michael Carrick.

The alternative reason will be that he has no regard for our youth tradition and zero regard for the fans. I struggle to see this.

Young is a guaranteed starter for next weekend, not really staking a place.
De Gea, Valencia, smalling, probably Jones, young, pogba, matic, Herrera, Sanchez and Lukaku. And probably lingard. Theres not really any spot that's open for anyone to take.

So if rashford scores a hat trick?

Either way, moaning about young starting is just pathetic

    Take your watch off Carrick.

Rashford isn't starting over Lukaku or Sanchez if he scores a hat trick. Unlikely over Lingard because of the role Mourinho uses Lingard in either. So I doubt it would change much. Also not moaning Young starting, I'm a big fan of his, just arguing your point about him making a claim to start when he's a guaranteed starter

Wouldn't the inclusion on youth, for example, be a prime method to preserve first team players in lieu of the cup final on the horizon? I think you're being harsh on some others. Clearly, the sentiment behind some fervent posting is well-placed given this game has no stakes?

Rashford and mctominay are starting. Two academy products. People are up in arms about the lack of players I would query how many have actually seen play (and even those that have, have very little insight as to how ready these guys are. Maybe one or two are injured. We don’t know.) it’s just moaning as usual

Mourinho never fails to disappoint. But let’s be honest, we could have Maradona, Garrincha and fecking Freddy Mercury in the line up, and he’d still make us dull to watch. So not sure how much the shite line up actually matters.

Still....depressing not to see either of Chong or Gomes on the bench for an essentially meaningless match.

Today is ultimately about a send off for Carrick.

Not impressed with that line up. No idea what Jose is trying to do? But as long as we finish the season off with style and have confident players going into the FA Cup final, all is well.

The point is to actually give them the chance to play so we can see them, even if it's just as a sub. They are incredibly highly rated for a reason. Last season Mourinho gave a bunch of youngsters a chance, and subbed Gomes on for Rooney at the end. That's the sort of thing we want to see on a final day when the game is meaningless.

Slightly disappointing that we don't have any of the kids even on the bench, but you get that. Hopefully we can send Carrick off with a win

I have 3 different website telling me 3 different line ups lol. From watching it seems like

    ---------------------------Romero-------------------------
    Darmien----------Bailley-------------Rojo-----------Young
    -----------McTominey----Carrick---------BLind--------------
    -Mata--------------------Rashford------------------Sanchez

    That's the one.:)

Hope the the team plays well, and Carrick gets the send off he deserves, regardless of my fellings regarding Jose and he's team selection and style of play.

    Now that's the spirit!

Shocking how people are forgetting it's Carrick's day.

He doesnt get us, style of play, ethos, if you are good enough you are old enough thing, compared with his views, we probably look like aliens to him.

I think we would've seen youth players if it wasn't for the FA Cup. Jose probably wants the likes of Pogba et al to have some minutes to keep the match fitness for the final.

    Unfortunately not everyone gets it.

None of the other teams have our record of bringing through our own products.
Most of the big ones at least have some of their promising youngsters on the bench though. Woodburn for Liverpool, Arsenal have Nketiah, Maitland-Niles, some goalkeeper Macey, Willock... City have Foden, Diaz and Zinchenko, and so on. Like you say though, we're usually known for giving youngsters chances. Especially off the bench on the final day.

Only reason to watch the game is Carrick.

Agree that not having Chong or Gomes on the bench is not the best thing.
