    Finally, football is back!

    Would love to see:

    .....................DDG
    Darmian..Smalling..Jones..Shaw
    ..................Carrick
    ......Schniederlin..Herrera
    Memphis....................Pereira
    ..................Rooney

Will probably see the 4-4-1-1 however

Either way don't care, we've lost the opening game twice out of the last three years, and the time we won was under Moyes, so just looking forward to watching some good football hopefully! (a big win would still be great though )

Shame we can't throw in a curveball and start Wilson up front. Pochettino's high defensive line should be his biggest vulnerability but Rooney doesn't have the pace or the inclination to make runs to exploit it any more. With decent service, Wilson or Hernandez could tear that to pieces.

Super excited for the new season and a bit nervous at the same time. Excited about seeing the new signings in a competitive match, nervous because of LvG and his philosophy shite.

Excited but if I'm being honest I am nervous. LVG has not provided me with much reason for optimism. Really hope he proves me wrong.

    De Gea
    Darmian--Smalling--Jones--Shaw
    Carrick--Schneiderlin
    Mata--Memphis--Young
    Rooney

subs: Romero, Valencia, Blind, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Pereira, Januzaj.

However I'm hoping for a 4-3-3 with Herrera starting and Memphis on the left.

Anyone have an educated guess on how Spurs'll line up?

2-2 with Kane finding form right away, and Rooney & Depay chipping in with a goal a piece. Exciting start to the season for both teams.

Anyone have an educated guess on how Spurs'll line up?

They'll probably be standing in a straight line, with the goalie on the left.

Herrera must start. Smalling should start. But seriously, Herrera. Please.

Vorm, Walker, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose, Alli, Dier, Dembele, Lamela, Eriksen, Kane was their line up today against Madrid. Can't see to many changes for the first kick off.

I can see a few changes, I'm not sure on their injury situation but I would see: Vorm*, Walker, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Rose, Mason, Bentaleb, Chadli, Eriksen, Lamela, Kane.

*There's talk that Lloris might be fit. Dele Alli has had a good pre-season, but I doubt he will be thrown straight in at Old Trafford for his PL debut.

Is everyone as excited as me. 5-1 lets go. 1 for Harry Kane then we buy him

Bore draw I reckon, hoping we can nick it. Will be hilarious in here if Blind is a CB and TBT at RB.
Ah the match day thread, there's nothing quite like it

    De Gea
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Shaw
    Carrick--Schneiderlin
    Mata--Memphis--Young
    Rooney

    4-0 Rooney hattrick Smallingx1
    70% possesion

Spurs beaten by Real Madrid last night, looking a bit lacklustre according to a couple of articles.

First goal a header by Rodriguez, then Bale surge through.

Playing Milan this evening for third or fourth place, sounding indecisive about the right time to travel home, either tonight or train tomorrow morning then fly back.

Been whingeing about timing of United fixture, wanted to swap it.

They sound demoralised before the weekend match even starts.

I think if De Gea starts this game, the chances are he'll be our keeper this year. If Romero starts, the deal for De Gea is nearing.

Assuming he's staying, I'd like to see this line up:

    De Gea

    Darmian Smalling Blind Shaw

    Carrick

    Herrera Schweinsteiger

    Depay Rooney Mata

    _______
    Vorm/Lloris
    Walker Alder Vert Rose
    Bentaleb Mason
    Chadli Eriksen Lamela
    Kane
    _____________________
    ...

I doubt if Mason will play since he's not featured in pre-season so far due to injury. I also suspect that Trippier will start ahead of Walker, so I'd guess at:

    Lloris
    Trippier Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
    Bentaleb Dembele
    Lamela Eriksen Chadli
    Kane

Although it's possible that Alli will be thrown in at the deep end, in which case he could either replace Dembele or play central attacking midfield, with Eriksen switched wide left to replace Chadli.

    'Nightmare LVG XI"

"My Dream XI" (granted that Ramos isn't coming, but we miraculously get what we need before Saturday anyway)

Either way, our nightmare XI is miles ahead of last year's first starting XI...

We’re going to have 80%+ possession but lose 1-0. Hope I'm wrong!

I'm not sure about scoreline, but I'm pretty sure Spurs won't come and park the bus, which will probably play into our hands. A lot of our better performances last season came when our opponents looked to play football, rather than hold a deep defensive line and hit us on the counter.

The result at home against Tottenham last season was a huge springboard for us, and I'm hoping it proves that again this August.

Yay first match day thread of the new season. How I've missed it.

You all seem pretty confident that LVG will start with De Gea. Not so sure myself.
