Whenever I get like this though he usually steps up with a free kick or composed finish to justify his place again.

In games like this, Van Gaal should scrap the possession philosophy and just go for it. They're shite and if we just look to break down the wings regularly, we'd hammer them. As it is we'll win 2-0 or so instead of racking up goals like we did back in the day, or City/Arsenal would.
