United back to winnings ways after the defeat at Swansea. They made hard work of it in the first-half but the introduction of Januzaj for Di Maria gave United added impetus and they eventually found a way through the Sunderland defence with a penalty won by Falcao and scored by Rooney.
The sending off of Wes Brown helped United take full control of the match and a second goal from Rooney secured the points.
With Southampton losing at West Brom, United are up into third (depending on Arsenal's result against Everton tomorrow).
