Not most of the game, the first half certainly. With every sub we kept getting better.
1st half we were poor, Onana kept us in it and to be fair their goal was spawny af.
2nd half we controlled, especially when Zirkzee came on. Was fantastic tonight.
Hojlund needs to have a think about what he's offering at the moment because I'm having Zirkzee over him

How?..we are going totally mental.TBH, we're struggling with the 343 at present. We just horseshoe the ball around the back and invite pressure because none of our centre backs outside Maguire are taking the risk of playing it into one of the four in midfield. Additionally our wing backs keep dropping all the way back to support the defenders due to them consistently playing the ball wide, forcing us to try and depend on long balls into the centre forward, where Hojlund constantly fails to hold up the ball. There has to be some tweak in either personnel or tactic.
Mainoo in particular doesn't provide support to the defence in his off the ball movement. Martinez and De Ligt have been disappointing in their distribution so far as well. This compounded by the fact that outside of using Amad on the flanks, we don't have any wide progressors, so we're just stuck in this endless cycle of inviting pressure.
Short term solution, I think Bruno needs to drop down to the no.8 position until the summer. When Shaw returns, I'd have him replace Martinez. Starting Zirkzee would also help. I'd also consider using Malacia at left wing back, regardless of his defensive deficiencies until the summer.Why does the man of the match get deodorant?

Scoreline is a travesty.
Southampton played us off the park in first half and should have been at least 3 goals up at HT. We were diabolical.
Bit better in 2nd half when Zirkzee came on for Hojlund, but Suleimana was still giving Yoro the mother and father of all roastings so Southampton still looked like scoring goals.
I didn't think we were going to get a win but Amad is always likely to get a goal out of nothing when he's in and around the box, which he did tonight.
But that performance tonight would lose to every other single team in the league, guaranteed.Amad again
We can't keep relying on him. The rest if the team should be embarrassed that he's having to bail us out. But I love him!
Zirkzee changed the game as well, the ball stuck to him and he made space that gave him options. I don't think he has the technical ceiling or eye for goal to be our #1 longterm but he should start the next games. Rasmus was criminal.
Amorim has learned a thing or two I hope, some of these players just did not turn up with that right attitude today. But it's also on him, whatever he asked them to do either did not land, or he got the strategy wrong. We were lethargic and devoid of initiative. We had 1/3rd possession at one point in the first half. We have to start going out believing we can win, playing on the front foot, against these sides
Yoro as well must learn from today, he was absolutely toasted. If he hasn't got that electric recovery pace then he needs to find another strategy when he faces these types of players. But he has time on his hands, he can learn from the senior CBs. I am not worried about that.Amad saved his team mates and his manager tonight, he has Elite Mentality and we also improved With Collyer, Maguire and Bruno and Eriksen started to control the midfield.
Amorim needs to learn from this playing a deep back 5 at old Trafford is simply never going to work it needs to be a high line 3421 and Yoros getting roasted. Like that won’t give him that much confidence, our best back three right now is Mazroui or MDL at RCB, Harry at CB and Martinez at LCB. Maguire makes a huge difference with his switch of play and long diagonal passing, Red Cafe needs to give Harry some much early love, he’s the least of our problems!
