It’s at OT & they are a high pressing team. We can’t pass for shit yet insist on playing out from the back. We can’t defend corners & they have the best corner taker in England...

Gonna need several beers for this one.

I’ll be optimistic, 2-1. Nervy finish (as always)

That sucks, he was a spark plug last season.
Spark plug... Really? He had like 3 good games. I know the caf love them some academy lads, but sheesh.

3 losses on the bounce with only 2 goals in their last 5 games but it doesn't matter as they are massive game raisers. Draws against Chelsea and Arsenal, a win against Liverpool, we only scraped past them, City scraped past them.

They're only interested in playing the big teams. Pathetic mentality, to be honest.

I expect to see a reaction in this game. The players know they have dropped off. DVB needs to play to freshen up midfield. Rest Pogba or Bruno.
Our forwards have all lost form at the same time so god knows who will play. maybe time to give greenwood a game at centre forward? I’d also play James with Rashford So there is a real pace threat... Rest Martial and cavani.

I agree that the team needs fresh impetus. The forwards are all in wretched form, and none of them really can complain at being dropped. I think we have to start Cavani for balance.

Southampton were pretty crap against Villa and have a small squad so can't imagine they're getting any fresher. In saying that they still probably deserved a draw against Villa, they're battlers and it won't be an easy game by any means.

    AWB Maguire Bailly Shaw
    Greenwood DvB Fred Pogba
    Bruno

This lot always make it difficult against us as they press us like mad men.

It’ll be probably similar again with either side scraping a narrow one goal win or a draw.

No it doesn’t he’s making 4/5 changes every game and it’s breaking rhythm
He’s made changes last 2 games based on injury otherwise it hasn’t been vastly different

At any rate, it’s about the way we’ve played not who’s played.

1-1 draw this. We aren’t playing well and creating next to nothing.

We haven't had any penalties in a while.
If we can get a penalty, we can win the match, but without a penalty, it could be tough.

We must avoid giving away free kicks within 30 mts of our goal or it’s trouble. I would give the lad Diallo twenty minutes near the end if we are comfortable. We will have to wake up soon or this will be another draw or loss if this slow passing back and sideways continues. We need to run at them relentlessly. If they get tired, put a sub on.

Drop martial and don’t bring him on.

That’s all we need to do to win.

    Its that simple

    1-1

I'm feeling strangely very optimistic for this one. We're due a clinical performance in front of goal. Win this comfortably and we could start another good run. February is going to be a big month, and will set our expectations for the rest (final third) of the season.

Diallo, Walcott, Romeu, Kyle Walker-Peters, Jannik Vestergaard, Mohammed Salisu, and Nathan Tella all injured and will miss the game,

7 players injured no excuses we have to win.
Then again we've said that before.

Another game already! bloody hell, it’s just a case of rest and go again...not much the coaching staff can do differently really with 48 hours.

But it’s the same for every team so fingers crossed Southampton are more tired than United.

We will start slow but hopefully can get a win. Think we're a shattered side with no actual belief we can win the league, to be fair us fans don't really believe either.

They will be, we rotate up to 6 players between each game, they have got 7 players injured missing the game.

Ole needs to stop fecking around and playing Rashford out of position. Rashford and Shaw can be devastating on the left for us, and have established a great chemistry that Ole has now disrupted for far too long. While our right side remains a black hole, I’d probably go back to Greenwood or playing one of VDB or Pogba out wide. Not ideal but Joel Glazer the football guru, vetoed a move for Sancho from his yacht in Florida this past summer.

This is what worries me. I would prefer to be playing Liverpool.

We are like a wounded animal and not one that lashes out, one that takes more abuse.

This absolutely reeks of more dropped points. Southampton will play their best game since they beat Liverpool.

That's my fear as well. Not that Ole has been negative lately, but because I don't see our front line scoring these days.

Yep, that’s why I’ve plumped for 0-0. Hopefully a bit of muscle memory kicks in for Cavani after his brace earlier in the season and we can edge it.

We'll win this by at least 2.

Unlike against Arsenal, we play a Southampton that have lost their spark and don’t look as good as earlier. They’re 11th and falling, absolutely no excuse to not beat them and playing well.

First and foremost, get Diallo on the bench for this. Ole’s comments, his performance against Pool, the fact that he was a bench player for a club who went as far in the CL last year as we have since 2011 and my sheer certainty that he’s a better player than James prove that he’s ready. It’ll provide a lift to the team and the fans too.

    Cavani

Our strongest team at this moment imo, and we’ll need to use it against a very competent team who would have battered us back in November had they not massively bottled it.

    Prediction: 2-1, Cavani and Mason.

When was the last time we won a league game 2-0? Surely we're due a straight forward 2-0 at some point?
