Matic isn't too bad when the opposition press. Not world class, but always there as a passing option for the defenders.
Pogba looked far more suspect for the first quarter of the Villa game. He's the one I'm hoping to see more from when Southampton press. He has the tools, but needs to put them to better use to help out his teammates. That turn he did in the second half was gorgeous.Afraid to put Lingard on the bench the big Jesse.

Done, simple as that I think.Isn't exactly against a team with high pressing that Matic is useful? He is good at absorbing pressure and has fine vision. Don't get too caught up by his lack of pace. Handling a high pressing team has much more to do with being able to control and move the ball on under pressure. To be honest I trust Matic more to do so than Fred. He is more careful on the ball and won't disappear from his position in defensive situations.
I'd agree, though, that he sometimes is a bit slow on the ball. But I think that he recently seems far more settled about what he needs to do on the ball, which might be due to the much improved movement in the team.

Not mathematically, but I think it can be classed as a must-win. The stink of the past few seasons hasn't been washed off yet, so dropping points at home to Southampton and failing to capitalise on our rivals dropping points would get the nerves going. The fans would certainly feel it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the heads of the players.- Status
