Good half in the end I thought. We have been a bit iffy at the back at times, but things are looking positive at this stage. What I'm liking, is that you can see our players like Ibra and Pogba are clearly a level above the opposition. So once they start to gel a bit more, they should be a whole lot more effective as right now they are a bit mismashed still.

I think it's just that there's no dedicated deep-lying player in the midfield; Fellaini and Pogba are both playing more or less as box-to-box midfielders, just leaves us a little open on the counter. Ideally Rooney/Martial would come off for Schneiderlin and move to a 4-3-3 if that's still the case second half.

That was so-so, I guess, but dear me it's something, having Zlatan and Pogba in our team. I'm at the edge of my seat in a way that I haven't been for years, and it finally feels like something can happen at any minute. And it's not that it necessarily have to come from one of them either, it's just that having those two in the team gives me that belief, and it makes watching football so much more enjoyable.

Even if the overall quality of the performance is a bit flat, like so far tonight, it sorta just goes out the window to an extent.

Fellaini has been great today, Pogba has grown into the game and is looking a powerhouse already.

Rooney been a bit crap then pulled out that great cross fair play. Not the best half but were winning!

I'd be tempted to give Rashford a run out on the left for the second half.

Martial was incredible last season. I just hope he can regain his form, otherwise he's gonna find himself on the bench.

There was a moment where Marital received the ball on the wing near the D-Box. Instead of taking on the player , he waited for an player to arrive and passed it to him. Wonder if these were the instructions he got.

Pogba has just been an engine in the mid, missed such type of a player for a long time. Defense needs to improve, United have looked really shaky at the back at times.

But overall they are so much more positive

Not a bad first half of football. Southampton are a good passing team and are certainly making it interesting. Pogba has been very good. A few missed passes, and he may be trying a bit too hard, but really is there a better midfielder in Europe? Mata has been excellent. Running everywhere, hustling players and some sublime passing. Rooney is having a stinker. Good pass for the goal, but apart from that, slow and ponderous. Martial is having a worse game. Poor decision making, loose passes and not helping Shaw out. Shaw is giving it 100%.

The football wasn't great. I don't like how narrow we are defending. they've had acres to cross the ball into our box.

The fullbacks are providing all the width. We're attacking too narrow.

Not the best first half from United. When you have one of the best strikers in the world that's not too important though.

The team has looked a bit unbalanced. Mata's clever but we have missed Lingard's runs in behind. Fellaini has also looked a bit average in the deeper role. His positioning has been well coached, his ball play leaves a lot to be desired.

Defensively we've looked less sure than at Bournemouth. Perhaps because Pogba isn't devoted to screening.

Martial also needs to get ahead of the ball more. He always wants it to feet. It's a waste of his speed.

I think an awful lot of people are going to start feeling rather silly for slating Mata. He was one of the biggest victims of LVGs stagnant football, his first touch, vision and one touch passing are immense. With the licence to be more creative as a team I can see him having a very good season. Especially if he can replce Rooney at 10, and have Mkhi to his right!

Pogba has also looked class, really exciting to watch and just owning the pitch.

Compared with LVG football: We had "only" 47% ball possession, and still I had the feeling, that I have to wait for halftime to go to the toilet because I could miss a goal or a good move. (Last season, no one waited for halftime.)

Rooney was not that bad as some comments here.
I still have doubts about Martial in his role.
