    start strong then give Garnacho, Iqbal and others some gametime

    Sancho could use a good performance

    Goal difference doesn't matter to be fair. It goes to H2H if both teams are on level points. But we need to win this match

    Wrong. We lost by 1 goal against Sociedad. If we beat them by 1 goal and both teams end up level on points, it will come down to GD. As I said if we don’t improve our GD significantly in this game we’ll have to beat Sociedad by 2+ goals to edge the H2H.

    1. Points in head-to-head matches among the tied teams;
    2. Goal difference in head-to-head matches among the tied teams;
    3. Goals scored in head-to-head matches among the tied teams;
    4. If more than two teams are tied, and after applying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all head-to-head criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams;
    5. Goal difference in all group matches;
    6. Goals scored in all group matches;

    Would like to see some rotation of the team as we play West Ham on Sunday.

    ------------------------------------------------De Gea--------------------------------------------------
    Wan Bissaka--------------Lindelof------------Martinez-------------------------Malacia
    ---------------------------------Mc Tominay--------Fred------------------------------------------
    Elanga---------------------------------Van de Beek-----------------------------------Sancho
    ------------------------------------------------Ronaldo--------------------------------------------------

    Could you explain? What is H2H?
    Head to head results. If teams are tied, instead of relying on goal difference, it will be down to who accumulated more points in those direct matches.

    So if we finished level with Sociedad now, it will be who had more points in our two games. If it's still level after that (e.g. 1 win and 1 loss apiece), then it's goal difference. @Samid has explained it well above.

    Ok, got it, thanks.

    Haven't seen a single report about AWB and Donny being fit yet?

    Probably it's still
    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelöf Martinez Malacia
    McTominay Eriksen
    Elanga Bruno Sancho
    Rashford

    Unless there's major fitness related news still coming.

    The sad reality is that Ronaldo will feel he is above Europa level, so even starting him on Thursday night will be twisted into more disrespect...the manager/club can't win in this scenario.

    Apart from the Ronaldo issue...I'd rest maybe Shaw, LB is the only position where the falloff isn't that big.

    CB can't rotate much due to Varane's injury, Sancho and Rashford could do with a goal, Eriksen has had a mini break already so no harm playing him.

    Going against the grain here a bit but I'd like us to go full strength on this one. We need a game where we absolutely destroy a team, not just in chances or possession, but also in goals.

    A high scoring game where we score 4/5 is what I feel is needed to finally open the floodgates for our attackers, and these poor sods might just be the team to kickstart that for us.

    We should rest Martinez and Antony. For me; it is a necessity to see how we play without those two. We don’t have the squad depth like City, so these experimentations/practice will be crucial.

    At current state don’t think Ronaldo really cares who he played against, as long as he gets to play more and regain some scoring form just good enough before WC starts next month.

    Really with happy with how the team is progressing but it is about time we battered someone.

    Start the first team try to get a 2 to 3 goal margin fast and then play some fringe players. We can't afford to drop points, we still need to beat Sociedad away and that will be a very tough nut to crack. If we don't finish nr 1 I don't think we will win the Europa League.

    On the other hand a game against Juventus, Atletico or Barca would be very tasty.

    Do we have any promising young attackers to fill in for Ronaldo? Give him 20 minutes max

    How is Williams coming along? Hoping for a revival for him. Really need someone to support the RB minutes burden with Dalot. He had some decent games with Norwich and might be the one to watch under ETH considering he has energy and intensity

    In theory should be pretty comfortable.

    We should be rotating in a game like this.

    I don't think Ronaldo should play whilst he has been fined 2 weeks wages.

    ...............................................De Gea...............................................
    Dalot...................Lindelof..................Martinez..........................Malacia
    -----------------------------Mctom--------------------Fred....................................
    Sanco----------------------------------Erikson------------------------------------Garnacho
    ----------------------------------------------Elanga--------------------------------------------

    Ideally I'd prefer Ronaldo to play but I don't think it's right.

    I think ETH will probably go stronger than the above and play Ronaldo.

    Do we play ronaldo and afford him the opportunity to bag a few goals against piss poor opposition which would only help strengthen his defence and his media mates that he should be playing every game and spin it as ten hag being in the wrong to drop him?

    Feels weird to be really looking forward to United games again.

    No. Play Rashford so he has the best possible chance to break his duck.

    A game we should dominate possession and with how poor our finishing has been, if players like Rashford, Bruno, Antony can find some goals in the game, it would help in the league by alleviating that desperation to score which could be affecting the finishing.

    Not to mention, our goal difference is really off, so need goals this game plus big win against Sociedad to have chance to win the group.

    Sorry, I thought you meant goal difference in total, as in the team with the best goal different in all group matches. Yeah, it will be goal difference in H2H matches.

    I just meant we don't necessarily have to batter Sheriff, we've just got to beat Sociecedad by 2 or more goals or alternatively beat them 1-2.

    They've removed the away goals so the win will have to be by 2+ goals unless we can manage a big win here.

    It's a must-win game but it's the only opportunity before the World Cup break where we can give some players a game, like Garnacho, Iqbal, and maybe from the bench, Mainoo. I expect Dalot will have to play yet again, and Dubravka is injured right?

    --------------------------de Gea
    Dalot------Lindelof--------Maguire-----Malacia
    ---------------------------Iqbal
    ----------------Eriksen------Fred
    Sancho---------------------------------------Garnacho
    ------------------------Elanga

    Mainoo to get minutes too. Bring on the cavalry Rashford, Bruno, Antony and Casemiro if we're not making light work of this.

    We are going to have to face such opposition at some point in the tournament, may as well do it early to see if we are good enough against such teams rather than wasting a few extra rounds and more Thursday night football clogging up our fixture list before finding out if we are or not.

    Yeah nevermind. I'm talking nonsense - you're right. We're 4 goals behind and they're playing Omonia so I unfortunately can't see us catching up in terms of goal difference. I think it's more likely that we beat them by 2 or more goals at their home.

    We really messed up by not putting a few past Omonia both home and away. I can't believe we played them twice and the goal difference was only +2

    This squad doesn’t have a 3-0+ win in it, but if it did - this should be one of them.
