I'd like an unchanged XI from LFC. Hopefully Martial back on the bench. Massive game this. Can't afford to be sloppy at the back. Remember that John Guidetti moment? None of that. Hope we start fast, get an early goal.

I understand people wanting same team as Liverpool, but i think we need a bit more in attack as we have to win this game and have to score no matter what. We will need a 2 goal cushion going late into the game as they will throw everyone forward then.
If Pogba is fit then he has to play, simply due to being a goal threat from midfield. Fellaini needs to be on the bench atleast too, if we need to go route one in late game. Martial is needed too.

I do think Mou will go with the same team, with Pogba, Martial and Fellaini as three subs if we need to win it late. Getting excited now, 16 hours and some minutes to kick off

More in attack ? We went into the Liverpool game with 2 wingers as fullbacks, 2 midfielders and 4 attackers.
Don't think it can be more attacking that than.

We sat back with that team against Liverpool. We probably wont sit back as much.. But that team was not defensive.

With the way Rashford cut in from the left to shoot, do you think we would ever manage to play with him on the left and Martial on the right?

Just trying to figure out how to crowbar Rashford, Sanchez and Martial into a very attacking starting 11.

I'll be the first to complain about the line up so We'll win and progress further.
And no, before you say anything I know how the line up's gonna be so I can complain now.

What a shit line up! needs to be more attacking because We are playing at home. What's Jose thinking!? We can't just play defensively because We need a goal, no! We need goals. Inviting pressure is just plain idiotic, imagine if They score first due to our defenders dropping too deep and fecks it up (See Baily). Boy oh boy, I can tell you I'm not liking the line up at all and I'm not even joking and yes I've said it twice because it doesn't make sense at all. How is this a line up from a 'world class' manager? God I hate this fecking line up so much, so fecking awful (thrice now).

    Sorted.

after the weekend I'm expecting a fast start and if we score in the first 20 mins we will blow them away

if we struggle I can see another nervy game like the Celta Vigo game where we nick a goal and sit back

    lets hope it's option 1

We could fall into the trap of being too worried about conceding first.

Nah, that wouldn't be the worst case scenario. Falling behind usually (recently) results in United waking up and attacking with abandon. My worry is United going up 1-0, then Sevilla launching waves of attackers for the last 30 minutes. Can United finally score on the counter-attack in that situation and kill the game off?

Strange that after such a good run of results I have a bad feeling about this game. Would love to make the quarters and get a half decent draw

Feck, that scenario occurred to me after you said it. 1-0 with 10 minutes to go would not be good for my heart.:nervous:

We should be scoring at least 2 against these guys at home. I dont see them scoring twice. I think if they sit back they’re done for.

I am not sure we can get more attacking than the Liverpool line up. We had Rashford, Lukaku, Mata and Alexis. Martial and Pogba should start from the bench for now since Pogba's health status is a bit uncertain and Martial's form in his last two or three games don't match up to Rashford's recent form.

That’s what I fear, too. United scoring in first then going for full defence in strategy and subs and allowing Sevilla coming back in to the game. Even with 2-0 that would be a nervy scenario because of the away goal rule.

It's been a while since Pogba was our best player.
He hasn't been our best player this year by a long shot.

While I agree he hasn't been our best player this season, he's been injured for the large part of it. But the season didn't start in January, he is still our best and most important player, he was very good before the injury. A period of bad form, doesn't change that.

Just hope we put in a good performance and get the game wrapped up early doors. However we all know it ain’t as simple as that as we always seem to do it the hard way.

I don’t want another John Guiddeti moment like last year.

Yes it does, it's pretty much the definition. Pogba has been out of form for awhile now, so coming back from injury and expecting a good match from him in a one off cup tie doesn't make sense.

No one doubts his ability, and injuries have disrupted his season somewhat, but thus far at United he hasn't shown the ability to just get on with it and perform. It's his biggest weak point.

He doesn't deserve to start just based on his name and transfer fee.

Hell no, early goal could cause us to stop playing and soaking in the pressure. I'd rather we score a bit later on, early in the second half or so.

Hopefully Fergie crashes with the team again like before the Liverpool game. Just pass on some of that magic you legend.

Expecting a good match from Pogba in a one off cup tie doesn't make sense?

People have short memories. Last time I checked we don't have Alcantrara and Kovacic on the stand by. Instead we have McTominay who has 20 matches under his belt and had an awful match against Crystal Palace just a week ago and Fellaini who is just back from injury.

Form doesn't decide who is the best player, down a season there are lots of players with purple patches, only few have the class to be called the best.

Yes Pogba is out of form, but big players decide big matches. He was out for how long before that Arsenal match? He is capable things none other player we have can do. He should play from the start if he is fit and ready.

Hopefully Fergie crashes with the team again like before the Liverpool game. Just pass on some of that magic you legend.

One of my favourites from him:

"'At the end of this game, the European Cup will be only six feet away from you, and you’ll not even be able to touch it if we lose. And for many of you, that will be the closest you will ever get. Don’t you dare come back in here without giving your all.' (1999 European Cup final with Bayern Munich, half-time team-talk)"

You can just picture him telling the players that in the dressing room and it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up even now

Hope to see a good performance from the lads tonight. Can't wait for it!

I've been digging a little bit in Sevillas forum (I'm Spanish, so no problem with the language), and I've seen that they don't have many hopes, especially after their defeat against Valencia and their poor recent form.

However, they keep saying how important is not to conced one goal in the first 15/20 minutes. If they achieve that, they see themselves with a chance to go through.
Probably their starting XI is gonna be: Rico; Mercado, Kjaer, Lenglet; Sarabia, Nzonzi, Banega, Escudero; Mudo, Correa y Muriel.

We need to be extremely careful with Banega (their main man) and Nzonzi. We need some power in the middle, so if Pogba is not fit for tonight, we need Matic and McTominay/Fellaini to step up for it. It's gonna be a huge battle.

My prediction: 3-0. Lukaku on the spredsheet (2 goals) and Martial.
    Bring it on!

I think eventually we need Pogba to be playing in front of McTominay and Matic possibly in the 10 role but today isn't the day to experiment.

I'd go same starting lineup with more firepower on the bench than the weekend.

    Sorted.
Getting more self-aware? :D Fair honesty.

This sudden nonsense about Pogba #10 is doing my head in.

I'm going to cherish my completely unfair tag for once, and say: look, City are playing #8s as #6 and two #10 as #8, but here you want Mourinho to play with two #6 and then a #8 as #10.:nono:

    According to M.E.N. (source).

    Travelling Squad

    Goalkeepers:
David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira

Defenders: Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelöf, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw

Midfielders: Scott McTominay, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard

Forwards: Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez

If Pogba is fit he'll probably start ahead of Mata then.

Most important thing is him must be 100% fit. If he's still in doubt he should never play as the game won't handle a jogging midfielder.

20 players, so, supposing J.Pereira, Darmian are out of the match day squad, who's the third one? Could Carrick, who was at the press conference, be out of the squad? Strange.

The game won't handle a jogging midfielder? Well, if he starts we're playing an extra central midfield man against Sevilla's midfield two at home.

Seville won't set to defend as they need to score. I expect them to press and try to attack. If he's not ready for a physical match he shouldn't play.

They might do that because they don't know better, but they hardly need to score. If it stays like this, they go to extra-time and maybe penalties. They are very experienced in Europe.

Do they have any guarantee of winning Penalty shootouts ? I think them scoring an away goal will be more guarantee for them.

If Pogba undeservingly starts, then it's probably a 4-3-3 without Mata, so who's going to close the rightwing where Correa operates? Remember he gave Valencia an headache in the away game.

Anything can happen in penalty shootout. They are more likely to sit back defend and try the counter as one goal for them will mean we need 2. They wont want to score too early as that would really mean united have to go full attacking mode, which was too much for even chelsea.
Best strategy for sevilla is to absorb pressure in first half, and then wait for counter, follow this till 60-70 mins, then try and attack themselves, they will know even if united are 1-0 up in 80 mins, they still need just one goal.
