I was really nervous before the Liverpool game. I feel really confident for this one.

I feel the opposite... Liverpool I was quite confident. This one.... could be tricky. But i do think we will win. Let's hope all fears are dismissed with an early strike. Lukaku scores early would be great, as it relaxes him, and his play becomes more focused, bullish and confident. The whole team works off that...

Nice way to omit Huddersfield away.

You mean the match 5 months ago? Where he had that poor header leading to a conceded goal? Didn't start that match, but it is interesting you bring up a match that long ago.

So is Baily doubtful or what? Any news on him?

Really important match this. Not progressing to the next round will be disastrous. I hope we play positively and not look to grind out a narrow 1-0 or 2-1 win. We must take this game to them and punish them or else they will start to feel confident like in the first leg. I felt in the first leg we gave them too much respect, shouldn't be doing that here. Jose must be careful and not play with fire here by defending a narrow lead.

I think you are stuck in the past.
Under Jose, we will grind out a narrow win. No doubt about that.
Assuming we go into the lead, we'll shut the game down, give the opponent the ball and see if they can break us down - just like we have done countless times this season.
The only time you will see us play open/expansive football is if we go a goal down OR we are playing very poor opposition. In which case, Jose will allows our midfielders to venture forward and play with less discipline.

The positive to all this is that if/when we face a really top side, we will have a good chance of winning. We won't get torn apart, because Jose will turn the match into a highly tactical affair, which will reduce the gap (in terms of player skill) between us and the superior team we are playing. Liverpool was an excellent example of this, where their much hailed attack, failed to score a single goal.

That would be 3 starts in a week when most of these players (Valencia, Smalling, Young, Matić, McTominay, Sánchez and Lukaku) already have 6 games in a row! Even so, it might be possible, because international break is coming just after the FA Cup game…

I hear what you saying, but I still remember back to 1999. In the run-in to the treble (we were playing huge games, against quality opposition), SAF played virtually the same players every match and we won the treble.
Also, Jose has a history of sticking with his favourite 13 players, so in crucial matches, he will tend to pick the players he trusts.
Also consider that if we go out of a competition, there will be fewer games for us to play, so as the season progresses (with 2 months remaining), assuming we don't win the FA Cup and the CL, we will be playing fewer games.

It really depends on the game. There have been matches when we were 2-0 up and still attacking -- and the opposition never looked like scoring. I think Burnley away last season was one such game.

If we play like that, and ideally we should as Sevilla are wank away, 2-0 would be stress-free. But nobody is going to say no to 3 or 4 goals before half-time, of course.
The problem is I don't see us being attack minded after going a couple goals up. Am expecting the defend defend defend tactic, which works well but leaves us fans tensed. Considering our brilliant home form, am quietly confident but it's a very important game and we know how Utd do things the hard way.

That shouldn't be the case, they're probably outer 2 most naturally gifted players. They should be destroying teams together

I think Pogba favours the left, while Sanchez (although favouring the left, also), is best when he is central, so that all the attacks can go through him.

Personally, I'd stick Pogba on the bench and start the same/similar team which played against LFC and CP. Those teams were phenomenal and it would take a ridiculously good team to beat the starting XI which we put out for those 2 matches.

Assuming we go into the lead, we'll shut the game down, give the opponent the ball and see if they can break us down - just like we have done countless times this season.
Dont you think the away goal dynamic changes things a bit? At 1-0 up we can sit back but if we make a single mistake and concede a goal we are then chasing the game or else going out. So it isnt quite the same as being 1-0 up in a league match. I can certainly see what you are saying, and I think we will keep it tight, but I think we will still look for opportunities to break - more so than we did in the second half against Liverpool, for example.

I have a feeling that it will be a similar match to that against Marseille a few years back. Dominate and score early twice, then start defending, get nervous and struggle leaving the opponents to dominate.

Starting to feel anxious now...Just hope we avoid any stupid red cards or anything like that.

For some reason, I am really nervous about this one. But at the same time, it feels good to feel like a proper United fan like I used to 5 years back. Worried about CL quarter final rather than CL spot

Massive game tonight. We've come out on top in our last few 'big games'. Hoping we do the same tonight. I expect Old Trafford to be rocking.

I love such games. Champions League is about that feeling. You need to be excited and anxious at the same time. Can't wait, honest.

I'm not too nervous somehow. But I still placed a bet on Sevilla to qualify (@ 3.00) for the anti-jinx. Thank me later.

Chuck a poll up and I guarantee you the overwhelming majority of this forum thinks playing as the most advanced of a midfield three is his best position. One game at Anfield a season ago is not a good measure of anything.
Funny, popular opinion has Pogba on the midfield right!

By the way, the function of a #10 in 4-2-3-1 is quite different of an #8 in 4-3-3.

We need to win the game. It really is as simple as that. We are not going for a draw....we want to win.
The team has proved that (most of the time), it is able to handle relentless pressure from the opponent, attempting to break us down, so Jose will use that to his advantage.
The team however, has not proved that it can score lots of goals against quality opposition and Jose will be aware of that, also.

    There is that and...
Jose won't change. He is what he is. And playing the way he does has served him well for the last 15 years, so why should he change?

    This :)
It's like old times. Really looking forward to it!

Ah hell, hecking daylight savings time. I’d prefer an early 2-0 now, please. Else I have to get creative to catch the 2nd half...

 We're back. It's been that long feeling this again. Good effort to the whole squad + coaches last season.

Very nervy all of a sudden.

Need to be 3-0 leading early as soon as we can. At least lead by 2 goals, but even that is still nervy.

I’m genuinely excited to see hos we line up. Wouldn’t be surprised to see basically the same team as the weekend, nor if Pogba comes in for McTominay

I went for same team but changed McTominay for Pogba last minute. I think if he's fit, he will start.

Don't tend to be nervous but can't help it for this game. Just hope we don't live to regret the result in Spain as I believe Sevilla will score.

The away goal situation is the only reason why I'm shitting it. I'm still haunted by Porto, Leverkusen etc.

I’ve got a feeling that we are going to cruise this game tonight. 2-0 at half time.

McTominay and Mata dropped. Lingard and Fellaini in.

I am a little tensed, but I have the believe that at home we can beat any team. All we need is a win. I hope we get it.
