In the modern game, you can't go through the man even if you touch the ball first. We saw yellow cards for that kind of challenge all the time in the PL...and the CL takes a tougher stance. It wasn't close to being thuggish, but it was a clear yellow card offense.

But we all agree Ole played with fire by keeping Fred on and he got burned by the decision.

It's an annoying aspect of the modern game. You pretty much can't go to ground at all. It is a contact sport, so some leeway should exist on a tackle by tackle basis. Fair enough if studs catch a player on the follow through or its excessively high/dangerous. This was a little harsh. But that's how it is.

Players like Carrick really benefitted from this new stance over the past decade or so. A Keane or Davids would be neutered in the modern game, as aggression and tackling were two of the biggest weapons in their arsenal.

Oh dear. Just took a fresh look at it again.

A yellow card every single time, mate.

I can look at it every day of the week.

It's not even a foul, let alone a card.
That's a textbook tackle. Any defensive midfielder is proud of that tackle.

I'd teach it to kids. Perfectly timed tackle.

Seems we’ve turned the tables on PSG. Two years ago, we we’re pretty damn lucky to go through against a better team. Now we lost a game in which we were clearly the better playing team. Even with ten men it looked as likely that we could score as that they could, at least until the last counter. Playing wise, it was maybe one of our best games. Bar putting it in the net.

We played well I thought. The difference was they took their (few) chances and we missed three sitters. As for Fred, he has a record of getting cards. I said when we signed him he was a walking red card. He, and Ole, should have known they would be after him to get him sent off after the Ref bottled it in the first half. Poor decision making from Ole.

    Unlucky to lose I thought.

Were the better team for periods, but left to rue the missed chances, this happens in games, could see it coming last night when Martial missed. Just one of those games, where you get punished for it.

Their second goal is also poor to concede, Cavani and AWB should've been out of there quicker. When the ball comes to the edge of the box there are 5 Utd players in the 6 yard box and 4 PSG players. When the ball is played back in, they are the only 2 there and still 4 PSG players.

On another point, why is there no men on the posts here? If they were, likelihood is they'll still be on the post when the ball comes back in and will either block or clear as it comes to Marquinhos.

Fred was playing well enough aside from being a red card waiting to happen. It was understandable he was left on because of this. Personally I would have hooked him after the attempted headbutt, he was lucky to get a yellow for it. I thought he was unlucky on the second one, he clearly gets the ball, it's not even a foul never mind a card. The ref knew he messed up in the first and was waiting his chance to send him off.

Perhaps you shouldn’t be training children then. Not that the tackle is horrendous, but it’s a classic case of ball and follow-through with (too much) force. The latter part is up for interpretation, the ref said yellow card and accumulated, it’s fair enough. Some say it’s not a free-kick, I say it’s a free-kick since the contact afterwards is obvious and that’s something Fred has to consider. He would never get the card if it’s his first tackle of the game, but like I said, accumulated from other tackles and his previous orange card. Not really controversial, some refs are lenient, some are not.

What you should be teaching kids is a tackle of the ball and avoid blasting studs into legs afterwards, which seems to be perfectly legit in your book.

If anything it’s a sign of huge progress that we are disappointed to suffer an unlucky defeat to a PSG team we more than matched.

In OGS’ first year, PSG battered us twice and we somehow scraped through. This time, we beat them comfortably in Paris and only narrowly went down last night after they got the bounce of the ball all night

Nonsense, it's not even a foul. There was nothing excessive about the tackle, he got to the ball first and barely contacted Herrera.

Any player at any level would be livid to have a free kick called against them for that, even more so if they were to get a yellow for it. The ref gave a second yellow because he knew he messed up the first half and got it out first chance he had.

Imagine now failing to qualify for the group stages after the start we had. A lost against PSG would arguably have been expected when we were looking at the draw but the lost to Istanbul will likely be the one that costs us qualification in the end.

Yep. Do think when the group was drawn though us needing a point in the last game to qualify would have been seen as more than acceptable by United fans so at this moment we’re still in a good position.

True but I don’t think anyone imagined us winning the first two games. If we we fail to qualify now, it will be a disaster and falls on Ole for his poor in-game management. I’m not a firm Ole-out believer either, I want him to succeed but yesterday’s game was there for the taking and he failed to get a grip of the game when Tuchel made those changes.

I just hope we qualify from the group stages so we can see these whiney, plastic PSG cnuts again in the knockout rounds. With no crowd noise, you can hear what an insufferable group of players they are.

I was working last night and have only just watched the match in full. My thoughts:-

Fred and McTominay are just a statuesque disaster in midfield. PSG were waltzing around them like a training game.

I was De Gea's greatest supporter when he first came and was getting dreadful flak, but I do think it is time for him to go.

When you see the state of both the Premiership and Champions leagues, it makes me weep that we did not strengthen in the summer. Both titles are wide open and we pissed about doing nothing.

I thought the 2nd half we started taking control of the game before the red card. It’s a pity Fred couldn’t keep his composure in the 1st half otherwise he was the engine in our midfield.

No, he doesn't. He's been sent off once for us and once for Shaktar. You're talking right out of your arse here.

I think the lack of composure was frustration down to being given a complete mauling in midfield. He may be an engine, but his and McTominay's passing are woeful, especially in the defensive third - it felt like PSG had two extra midfielders in the first half because the ball just went back to their midfield. I just don't understand Ole's blindness to certain players: when it comes to McTominay especially.

For me it makes it worse having Scholes doing the commentary, knowing that at 46 he could probably run that midfield without breaking a sweat.

We miss too many sitters and against a team like this you don't get away with it. Martial not up to it for a top top team in my opinion.

can United draw Chelsea, City or Liverpool if they finish 2nd in the group? I'd take Barcelona or Bayern next than playing in that bloody awful Europa league again.

No, cannot play English teams or the team in the same group. So it'll be: Bayern, Barcelona, Dortmund or whoever wins Group B.
