It's real sod's law for Lindelof and Maguire to be ill/recovering when we have Martinez away still.

Extremely happy with this line up. A sign of attacking intentions. Finally about to see us move in a really positive way in our goal difference.

Not that bad a lineup. Just Shaw out of position. Massive respect to Varane for returning this quickly after literally playing to the point of total exhaustion in the world cup final. Hope he's actually fit and not just making himself available because of the illness situation.

Need big performances from our front 4 today and over the next 4 games. Our goal difference is zero halfway through the season. They should take it personal and take it upon themselves to correct that.

Now if lindelof and Maguire have what I've had for a week then there's no chance of them playing . As for Martinez wtf does he think he's doing? Varane is back . That twit better be back and ready for 31st.

First 11 best get the job done: subs are awful. In desperate need of squad depth.

    What do they have?

3 players in there natural posistion in the back 4 and one slightly out of position in Shaw but he is capable at CB. Hardly worth the storm about it before hand.

Our bench is terrible, especially in attack. Need a couple of signings at least, irrespective of how Sancho performs when he is back.

Didn’t Ten Hag say that both Martinez and Varane was supposed to be back by now? Disappointed with Martinez if he stayed in Argentina to celebrate

Coulda woulda shoulda but Martinez probably should have been asked to fly back around the time we faced Burnley. I can only imagine that he was given the extended break to celebrate Christmas with his family as well? Only reason I can think of as to why he wouldn't have travelled back by now, but either way, if that's the case then he obviously still wouldn't have played tonight.

Maguire must be less than 50% still with one training session and 45 mins in a practice game or something? Otherwise, I'm sure he'd have played. If it wasn't for the situation with Lindelof and Martinez, I don't think Varane would be playing either for what it's worth.

It is what it is, just have to get through this one and hopefully full strength in the new year.

I can't remember the last time Shaw played CB in a pairing. Brennan Johnson is going to have a field day.

Interesting that we haven’t gone with Casemiro-Varane

Obviously Ten Hag feels we really need Casemiro in the middle tonight and would sooner play Shaw out of position than bring in Fred.

Look at the subs and tell me we don't need Gakpo. And yes, I'm aware we need a striker but there aren't actually any strikers that would improve us.

A bloody shitty virus if its same as me, can't eat, lethargic whole body aches and go through some loo roll after you even try to eat. I wouldn't wear white shorts either.
There are a lot of different things going about. A friend of mine her kids have caught Scarlet Fever and then she got the flu. They are just getting over it and her husband is now starting with the flu.

Think Shaw will eventually move to LCB full time, whether with us or with someone else. He’s a very compact, efficient, tidy player and I think he could do very well there given a run of games.

This is a good lineup, I don't get all the crying. Yea we would ideally have Martinez back by now but he isn't, get over it. I feel more comfortable with Shaw at CB than Maguire too. Bench is undoubtedly a bit crap but this team is good enough for a comfortable win.
