Going on recent performances, this looks like another squeaky bum job. Paul Merson has predicted a Toon win and I can see why. ETH has also come out praising Fred saying he was ‘frenetic’. I think he is still not comfortable with the language, frenetic meaning wild and uncontrolled. The team will have to start well for a change against an organised Newcastle team and an early goal for us would help.

This will be a difficult game. Newcastle’s Bruno is probably the best midfielder in the league right now.

    I’d go for:

    DDG

    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw

    Casemiro McTominay

    Eriksen

    Antony Rashford Sancho

Bruno, Martial and Ronaldo can come on if we are chasing the game.

Fred is our wild card

Does frenetic have a different meaning in Dutch like "horny"?

    McT is out.

    Team picks itself.

    Ddg
    Dalot Varane Martinez shaw*
    Casemiro eriksen
    Bruno
    Antony Ronaldo** Rashford
    * would prefer Malacia but Shaw deserves a start.
    ** assuming martial is unfit.

Probably meant it in complimentary way as in energetic and hard working.
    Gotta get used to it.

The problem was the finishing. If it was better, we'd have won at least 3-0, which is decent against a Europa League side.

That's not really a fair comparison though as we wouldn't make anywhere near the amount of chances against the Barcodes.

We will need to play a lot better and obviously finish better too.

Team should not change must I think.

Worse part is that we know that Newcastle will have the ball, they will beat us in almost every dept, so frustating game ahead.

    De Gea

    Dalot
    Lindelof
    Martinez
    Shaw

    Casemiro
    Eriksen

    Sancho
    Bruno
    Rashford

    Ronaldo

    Hope for a 2-1 win

Think this is a huge test to see where we are. We did well vs Liverpool and Arsenal, but it was tight games against similar level teams who are further along so we had to play more on the counter. City are just far ahead of everyone.

Newcastle is probably the best of the rest now that Potter left Brighton, are excellent in the middle and are full of confidence. Will be a tough game, but one that will say a lot about us IMO. If we control and dominate it, I'll be pleased. Of course need to win, but in terms of our development, need to dominate the territory. Hopefully Martial can make it, would make a big difference.

    De Gea
    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Eriksen
    Antony Sancho Rashford
    Martial
Is what I want to see.

can't believe i'm going to say this about newcastle but this is not going to be an easy game at all. Eddie Howe has them believing they are a top side and they have some quality attacking talent and mids...defensively a bit suspect but still they are no mugs this season

had an opportunity to shadow Eddie Howe during his time at Bournemouth the summer they were first promoted to the premier league...outstanding young coach and very detailed in everything he does

    Newcastles away results this season

V Brighton 0-0 (a match they had 1 shot on target in)
    V Wolves 1-1 (90th minute goal grabbed a draw)
V Liverpool 2-1 (98th minute winner for Liverpool)
V Fulham 1-4 (Fulham got a player sent off on 8 minutes)

    Assuming Martial can't play

    De Gea

    Dalot
    Varane
    Martinez
    Shaw

    Casemiro
    Eriksen
    Bruno

    Antony
    Rashford
    Sancho

We didn't. We played a pub team. That level of performance against Newcastle would have resulted in a defeat.
What a joke of a post. Did De Gea even make a save? Didn't we dominate this pub team but the forwards just had a bad day? I mean the chances we created alone is probably a record, according to the keeper himself this was his best ever game. If anything, say the forwards should have done better and scored at least 4 but to act like we didn't play well because we didn't score 10 is so stupid.

If we played like that against Newcastle ofcourse we win. The level of performance like? have several shots on target? dominate? test their keeper many times? hit the post? I am confused

I love how the Caf treat every upcoming opponents regardless of their actual level as if they were 2011 Barca. Some people even expecting Newcastle to have the majority of the ball at Old Trafford against us.

Difficult game, but we should be too much for them at Old Trafford. No Isak or Shelvey for them.

    DDG
    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    Eriksen Casemiro
    Bruno
    Sancho Rashford Antony

    3-1

Why are all our games tough? On paper at least. I know we messed up our opening two games but can we not play Forest at home now?

I know right? The next two after this are Spurs and Chelsea as well. It is clearly rigged!

clearly a game we need to take the 3 points playing at home against a team right below us in the table plus with Liverpool playing City this weekend and Spurs playing Everton

have no hope of Villa nicking points from Chelsea

What cannot happen is Newcastle having more intensity then United throughout the 90 mins. That sole aspect alone is what's getting them results. I feel like this United team still has several gears to go through and the only criticism I'd give of the recent performances is the team move the ball around too slowly especially in this high press era that we are witnessing.

If the team is set up to counter in transitions but assertive to not sit too deep and move the ball around I think United get a result. But instinct says it will be a game determined by attitude more than tactical input, second balls, aggression and focus.

It's freaking newcastle. They've been ok recently but our squad is much better. We were very unlucky last nite so i expect some lucky goals and a good win.
    2-1

Feels like we got the rough end of the stick from the postponed games. We would have been playing Crystal Palace and Leeds United after the "highs" of beating Liverpool and Arsenal back to back.

Instead we have nearly a month of no football and then had to play City away followed by Everton away.

Meanwhile Arsenal got to miss playing Everton after losing to us and Everton getting a draw against Liverpool, and because of their Europa League game being rearranged they don't get to play City at all in the league until next year.

We play Forest at home on Boxing Day in the first league game after returning from the World Cup.

Hopefully St Maximum is out. He always turns into a menace against us and causes us problems. We'll have Varane back hopefully. It'll be a tough tight game. But I think we'll see a good performance from us.

Yeah worry about him & Guimaraes

Newcastle are playing well but I think people are over-hyping them a bit. Sure, they played well last game, the game before that was a win against 10-man Fulham. In their previous 4 games they had 3 draws against Wolves, Palace and Bournemouth, and a loss to Liverpool. I am hopeful we can give them a reality check on Sunday. 2-1.

This will be a difficult game. Newcastle’s Bruno is probably the best midfielder in the league right now.

    I’d go for:

    Antony Rashford Sancho

Bruno, Martial and Ronaldo can come on if we are chasing the game.

He's really not. Been good but have you watched Newcastle before the last 2 games? Zero goals, zero assists in 8 games. He's got a long way to go to be considered among the best.
