Looking at it, he didn't intend to head it there, but seems people have decided he did. I'd say it hit him earlier than he expected.
Dude, he headed it towards an area he does not control. The only secure thing in this situation is to get it out for a corner or at least to a corridor he knows is safer. Heading it backwards is the opposite of secure, anything can happen - and it did. Incredibly poor defending, no two ways about it. Hit him earlier than expected? I really don’t know what that’s supposed to mean.
