It isn’t. It’s a call that could be made the day he signed. Him turning out to be rubbish only worsens the situation, but that’s not why he’s a waste of money.
Even if he was a good centre half, so what? How does that make us much better? We had budget constraints and we spent £40m to add a 5th centre half, 7th if you want to consider Blind and Tuanzebe - yet we have no fecking left-back in the squad.
Way too early to conclude Lindelof is not worth the money. I can count at least 20 great footballers who had shire first seasons at their new clubs but turned out to be gems.

It’s a waste of money if you manage a budget, and you use it on what you don’t need.
I’d be very surprised if he comes in and improves our defence, which has been the best in the league for ages. We had no business buying a 40m to cover our strongest area.

I agree that we weren't crying out for a centre back in the summer but Jose clearly sees something in him and wanted us to snap him up before another club did. He was good at Benfica I just think we need to be patient with the lad and give him more time to settle in.He was very good against Italy in the WC play off game.I want a big win here. My issue is that we were crying out for a left back, and to a lesser extent, a winger.
I wouldn’t care much if we got Perisic and Tierney, and then added Lindelof for good measure. But in a window where we were struggling to agree a fee for the winger we wanted all summer, £40m on a CB, good or bad, is a waste in my eyes- unless he’s Baresi-good.
I’d understand it more if we at least sold a different centre half, with Lindelof being a replacement.Can't wait to watch more muck.
I enjoyed the international break for once. England did well.

Every time I see our lineups it just reminds me how bizarre it is that Mourinho didn't buy a full back (for either side). Valencia at the very least needs competition for his place (shouldn't start literally every match) and he obviously didn't plan on using Young there.16:10SAMUEL LUCKHURST
Four players have missed out
It doesn’t look like Henrikh Mkhitaryan has made the squad, which is still a drastic measure despite his poor form, particularly since Pogba - who helped Mkhitaryan improve - is available again.
Darmian, Blind and Bailly also look to have missed out, which underlines what a strong squad United have. After the returning trio’s confirmed returns yesterday, who wasn’t in the squad was bound to be more interesting.Be very happy if the leaked team is right. 433 is the way to go, in my opinion.

Shaw and Lindelof look set to be included in today’s match day squad.
Both have been regulars to miss out on match day squads but given these dressing room pictures they look like they’ve been handed a place in the 18.
Opinions, but I think Kagawa was far more talented and better technical. We just bought him then got RVP so we had to play Rooney behind, so his signing was pretty much pointless.- Status
