Martial hasn't pressed, hasn't held the ball up, hasn't made runs. It's a credit to the rest of the team that we've looked the more dangerous, despite not playing with a striker.

He isnt pressing with sprinting around like a dog chasing a ball but other than that he has been decent at the hold up. Made a few runs. Could have scored a tap in if Rashford passed to him.

He isnt having a fantastic game but Martial is fine. Far from the worst attacking player on the pitch.

Ten Hag has got this spot on. We've nullified City completely. But I can't shake the feeling that if one of our half chances had gone in City would've crumbled. They've looked shaky and halftime just gives them a chance to regroup and perhaps be much more composed. Will be reasonably happy with a draw at this point.

Gutted about the Rashford injury. It's just our luck to finally get Wout only to lose Rashford. But he finished the half so maybe it's not a big problem. If there is even the slightest of risk though, he shouldn't be coming out for the second half. I'd rather lose this game then risk losing him for an extended period.

Martial was no where near as bad as people are making out. He had a rough opening ten which set the narrative. Most of our counters after that were possible because he was doing the right thing and he linked up decently. He just lacks the intelligent movement to get in to good goal scoring positions at the end of those counter attacks. People moaning cos he doesn't just sprint at defenders, when there are clear instructions for the team on when to press.

would also bring garnacho on if rashy is out. the transition with casemiro fred or bruno playing a quick ball over their last line will be the best chance to score at 0-0

Different angle for Rashfords one off the line shows he really should have scored. Far side of the goal was completely open, it’s actually a really bad miss

We're the better team and should be leading, hopefully these 2 ridiculous chances don't bite us in the arse.

Hes not been told to do the full press but to cut the passing lines to the midfield. Then when its worked out to the full backs, Bruno and Rashford get out to them.

Yeah the ones having a go at him about that don’t know football at all. We arent fully pressing all out obviously, he’s asked to cut off space not to harass the back line as it would open space up behind him in the midfield. Especially against a team like City who will murder that type of suicidal pressing. I think he’s been good besides the offsides. His link and hold up play has been fantastic.

Martial hasn't been closing down the last 3 games, it has to be instructions from ETH to preserve himself (given our run of fixtures and his injury issues). But there's been a couple of instances where had he shown just a tiny bit of more energy he would have won misplaced passes from city

Casemiro is a bit sloppy with passing, he's had 2 or 3 chances to start us off on a counter but has been sloppy

    Fred has been immense

    Shaw's been a calming influence

I assumed tactical but he also looks lethargic on the ball as well. Definitely don't want him on the right (was only for 5 mins tbf) as Cancelo the danger

Fred’s been all over de bruyne that first halve. That’s exactly why ETH brought him in.

We need to get Rashford some magic spray. He can rest the next game, but really hoping he can play even 15 more mins.
But don't risk if it will cost him. Rather he then sits out and hope he will be ready for Arsenal game.

Bad in that he is miles off the energy of he's fellow teammates.
    He's just not going enough.
So not bad as in, scuffing he's chances or losing the ball, but just not committing more, giving that extra.
The parts about doing more is understandable. Anything about poor link up is a lie.

No chance we can press effectively with 2 injured players out of the front 3.

Hopefully Rashford is back for Arsenal, can't have him missing much. If not Arsenal, then just keep him fresh for Barca.... Time for Sancho to come back in too I hope

That push from that cnut Rodri might've done Rashfrod's hamstring. Should've gone down.

Don't understand the Martial hate other than as a continuation of previous games. His link up in the breaks has been really good. Could be pressing harder but he has been decent.
I agree, some over the top reactions. He's made a couple of wrong decisions on the ball but for the most part he's done his job, and actually should have received a cut-back once or twice when his teammates opted to shoot instead. He's pretty much doing everything Ten Hag would have asked of him.

I think Antony is really not the man for this game, unless we're going for 0-0. But City look vulnerable today, I'd risk Garnacho.

That probably means Martial plays 90' and he looks unfit.

All this bitching about Martial yet half the reason we even managed some of these attack was due to him holding the ball when released to him and letting other run past him. He's served as a release for us from the back and midfield very well. It's also pretty clear he isn't 1005 fit hence why he doesn't sprint at full pace. He was doubtful for this game.

People just love to moan without even getting the context. Then again, typical matchday thread.

Agree, thought he did ok in first half.

So two things, you were full of it when you acted as if Martial wasn't in the right area and you are also full of it when you pretend that not being open in the box when there are two CBs for one striker in the box.

Just say nothing instead of sounding like a fool.

Can you save your fanboy takes for the Martial thread and do us all a favour.

He wasn't in the right area at the right time for the play. If you can't understand that it's your own lack of football knowledge.

Not sure Rashford will make it out sec half or last long, and with Martial notcreally offering much in front of goal. Our only hope is set piece or Garnacho. Could be tough sec half but at least our defence has concentrated really well...up till now!

The issue with Martial is off the ball as he's not been able to stretch the defence by being positioned on the defenders' shoulders, making secondary runs and he's isn't pressing as sharp as he can. He's in the right areas positionally.

On the ball he's been fine if a bit passive; you can argue that whilst his hold up play has been good, he can be more of a direct threat himself outside the penalty box etc. It's not a terrible performance but you definitely should expect more. I can see the criticism for sure as he does not look match fit for this type of game anyway.

All I keep saying in this thread is "martial this, rashford that". Bruno Fernandes is a passenger way too often

But he hasn't been though, he created Rashford's open goal chance, has been our best presser at the front, it's just a tight cagey match.
