1st XI for this one with a 5 day break now.

9/10 changes for Watford in FA Cup.

Back to first X1 for Burnley.

Wouldn't have been putting huge weight on this but given where we are in league winning a semi final is a big confidence boost and City really should be weakened. For that reason we should go full strength.

    2-2 and United on pens

    Needs to be full strength.

The fact that there’s hardly any 5 at the back formations shows how everyone’s mentality has improved.

I hope we don’t go 5 against Liverpool.

They are not the same side and we should use our momentum to win it. Certainly need a trophy boost so should do everything to get it. Same line up as against Villa but Matic on for McT or VdB if Ole feels confident there.

I didn't know it was just one game to go to the final, we have to take advantage of it . Come on United!

    Same.

1 leg against a covid hit City, 2 days after they play chelsea....lets go for it!!

I wanted Harry to rest, but seeing he is on 4 yellows, would be good to play him and ensure he gets booked to miss Watford rather than the more important Burnley or Anfield trip.

Is Ole capable of getting more than a semi?

Wrong question, in all sorts of ways. Firstly, semi-finals isn't semi-finals. If it'd been Coventry in the semis, it would have been a completely different task. Secondly, getting to finals isn't the result of some special manager mojo, it's two games like any other. Finally, it's the team that gets to the finals (or not), not the manager.

Turning this into another point for Ole to prove is doubly unhelpful in that getting to this particular final may not be what should be our top priority at the moment. For my part, I don't much care - I'd much rather have a win against Burnley and at least a point at Anfield than get to the Carabao final, if I had to choose. Domestic Cup success is in any case just consolation while we're waiting to become truly competitive in the league.

anyway, there might be a reasonable chance that the game gets postponed, if there are further Covid cases at City?

If they have enough U-18 players available, they must play. We care only about getting to the final, all the rest has no importance whatsoever

Would like to see VDB play, but more chance of seeing a flying pig

Expect it to be the same side that beat Villa

Think Ole will go strong for this and then rest players against Watford, but I thought Bruno looked really tired against Villa.

I want United to win, but I honestly think I will bounce back quickly if we lose. I would be supportive if we played our u23s to focus on the league.

We should win this. The momentum is with us and City have had to deal with a COVID outbreak. Win this and we start putting the home form issue right.

    Let the discussion begin...
Well it’s a massive game and we clearly head into this as the favourites. We can afford to rest players for the watford game next weekend,so I fully expect us to start our strongest 11.I”m confident that we will get the job done...

    We aren't favourites.

    Whoosh.

Doesn't work that way any more.
Bookings/red cards only count in the competition they're received in.

So it means he's on a right tightrope in that Burnley game.

That confirms it. Maguire will play both cup games.

Ole doesn't tend to rest him anyway, and centre back is probably the one part of the team we can't dip into the squad for.
Lindelof/Bailly - one will be injured by then for sure.
Rojo/Jones noone even knows their status anymore.

But this does mean could you risk leaving Maguire out against long ball Burnley? Probably not either.

Want to see this team pick up some silverware this year. Need to go into this looking to win, especially since they knocked us out with a bit of a spanking in the same fixture last year.

We could as easily win as lose so a draw seems likely. Pens will be a lottery. Sure would be nice to get through. I think our improvement over the last year merits a trophy, even if only the little one that nobody cares about.

Ah didnt realise... in that case miss the Burnley match and put him in vs Citeh

Only problem with that is Burnley are long ball oafs with loads of aerial threats.
Maguire has to be number 1 on the sheet for that one.

I would ring in the changes for this. Not too bothered about tbh.

Would be nice to get to the final and win it. But not the end of the world if we dont.

True but its a fact that we're so close now.
Why not go for the jugular.

Poch had a similar attitude when he was in charge of Spurs even though, like Ole, he hadn't won a single trophy with the club. People often cite those failures when evaluating him for a top job these days - PSG aside of course.

Winning a trophy, whether prestigious or otherwise, can only benefit Ole and the team, especially overcoming one of your rivals in the process.

Only true for YCs. RC suspensions apply in all domestic comps (Doherty sent off today is suspended vs Brentford).

Indeed. Even getting to the final and losing it would be better than another meek semi-final exit.

Once we’ve won some stuff we might be able to be able to pick and choose. Not yet though.

Some of the fans might not but Ole values trophies, whichever they are. He has said multiple times how desperate he is for first trophy and has also cited 2006 league Cup win impact on Rooney-Ronaldo. Since we are playing with 5 days gap, I am pretty sure we will go with best possible combination into this and then there will be rotation vs Watford.

Need to put Pogba, Bruno and Fred in that midfield and rest them all against watford. Play Rashford, Martial and Mason upfront

If City are finally going to lose in this competition, now is probably the biggest chance right? Stricken by Covid-19 recently could mean they miss a few big players and they play Chelsea today. We've had pretty much an extra two days on them to boot, although we are missing Cavani and potentially Lindelof & Williams. Luckily, we will probably just play the same XI as the last game and make changes against Watford if we can (although I think the amount of changes depends if we actually beat City first).

    De Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Fred
    McTominay Pogba
    Bruno
    Rashford Martial

Despite more being in our favour than not, it probably won't be a massive decider. Anything can happen in this game, they have a strong squad and it'll probably be tight.

Really want us to get a trophy nailed under Ole, we're in a semi final so have to go all-out. If we're in the League Cup final, I'd be fine with us rotating in the FA Cup & Europa League to concentrate on the Premier League.

But if he got a red he'd still count as being on 4 yellows. And we wouldn't want him trying to get a red v city to miss the FA cup game.

In relation to Maguire’s 4 yellows , was there not a rule that you had to reach 5 before January to receive a one match ban?
