No, it won't. Scoring 3 in one game and being terrible in 10 games before hardly mean proving something. Except that everyone can get lucky.
A lot of our popular players are held in high regards despite being poor in lot of games but scoring some indivual goals every now and then. Do different set of rules apply to different players?

Will take a scrappy 1-0 today. To hell with the performance.

I don't think there's much evidence to suggest James will be much use here, but aside from his inclusion I'm happy with the line up.

We're obviously the underdogs, but we're well placed to give it a real good go.

Back to the 3-5-2 which I like but playing James purely for his pace on the counter isn't appealing as he's been so poor for a while now and lacks the goal threat of Greenwood or the link of Mata with Bruno.
My best guess is that James is played to counter press as quickly as possible with a lot of intensity, but we have to hope that this results in us getting the ball back for Martial and Bruno... AWB and Shaw too (I have a feeling Shaw will be the one going up when attacking).

Havent won at home since 2015?

    LVG, we need youuuu
Once at home in the league since February 2011:

10/11: Man United 2-1 Man City (Nani, Rooney)
11/12: Man United 1-6 Man City (Fletcher)
    12/13: Man United 1-2 Man City (O.G)
13/14: Man United 0-3 Man City
14/15: Man United 4-2 Man City (Young, Fellaini, Mata, Smalling)
15/16: Man United 0-0 Man City
16/17: Man United 1-2 Man City (Zlatan)
17/18: Man United 1-2 Man City (Rashford)
18/19: Man United 0-2 Man City

    Absolutely shocking.

James is in the team for his pressing and pace which indicates we’ll be sitting deep and hoping to nick one on the break!

I’m hoping with a couple of quality additions we’ll be able to set out to dominate the likes of City as it’s pretty depressing being so worried about them all the time

So since we beat City at OT in 2015 it's

    Draw
    Loss
    Win (League Cup)
    Loss
    Loss

and yet in that time away to city it's been

    Win
    Draw
    Win
    Loss
    Win
    Win (League Cup)

    That's remarkable.

No he wasn't constantly threatening on the flank. They ran through the left with van Aanholt and Zaha. He has of course some output, like any fullback in the modern game. He can put in the odd cross and showed that against Chelsea.

But he, Shaw and Maguire in current form have shown that they can be trusted in a back 4. Williams hasn't played well at all in a back 5, looks lost. It's unnecessary and plays to City's strengths.

Your original post was that AWB cannot play as a wing-back, when he infact utilised this role often for Palace. Zaha himself had a free role in the team, and he's actually been more positive of late in his attacks for us.

    Absolutely shocking.

That's terrible. Almost wish that I hadn't looked at that now before the game. :wenger:
Ighalo to come in and smash a hat-trick. Putting those two stats to bed!

Such a terrible record. Our performances at home in these fixtures have been tumescent mostly, and that's being kind.

I want to believe, but they just seem to have our number at home.
I think we were unlucky in Jose’s second season, the 2-1. Rom missed some absolutely unforgivable sitters in that game & they got 2 gifts from set pieces. Other than that we’ve been outplayed every year

The 0-0 in 2015/2016 was a dreadful game but I remember Lingard hitting the bar with about 5 minutes to go.

The first Mourinho season they outplayed us but at 2-1 Bravo hauled down Rooney and it should have been a red card and a penalty.

So even though they always play well at OT we have also been pretty unlucky too I think.

James playing and somehow McTominay not is baffling, regardless of the system.

Still i suppose if we’re picking players entirely based on their pressing rather than ability we should be thankful Lingard isnt even in the squad.

Big gamble not playing McTomminay. Hopefully it’s not 0-2 at halftime and he’s hauling off James.

James needs to make a bigger impact on games than he is doing currently, this is a risky move from Ole, but his pace could be crucial against City and their high line with Bruno pinging balls over.

I don’t like the inclusion of matic at all. City are going to pass the ball around him with ease. Mind you I’m a big fan of matic. We should have use Scott for the extra muscle.

Not really a fan of James either but I do agree he is needed to counter sterling.

Foden the youngest man to start in the Manchester derby since Micah Richards according to Sky.

Apart obviously from Brandon Williams who is 4 months younger.

I’m not impressed with the lineup, but I wasn’t when we played Derby either.

Is something wrong with Mc Tom? Terrible decision to leave him out.

He’s not as good nor as in form as Nemanja Matic maybe? He could have put 3 in there behind Bruno, but I think he prefers AWB and Williams joining the midfield than having another holding midfielder alongside Matic.

City's back 4 is worse than ours, how did that happen. Other than Aguero, Sterling and Bernardo they don't have any world class players in there either. We should at least draw this.

Mctominay is made for games like these.

    Why he isn't playing?

Just back from a long injury and they don't want to risk him starting 4 games a in a row?

Plus he looked poor on Thursday, lost a lot of 50/50s and kept getting the ball stuck under his feet.

Matic played well last time against City

I'm fairly confident that we can contain City when they have the ball. It'll be interesting to see what Ole's plan/tactics are for those moments where we do have it. Martial isn't really the most ideal player to have up top in this kind of game if the plan is to counter-attack, which I think it may well be.

Fernandes is playing. The only thing I am comforting myself with

Yes, the entire rest of the squad are complete shite. We may as well play with one player on the pitch and forget the rest.

Keep seeing nonsense like this being posted.

Is there any line up which you, or anyone else with a similar doom and gloom outlook to everything United, which would have satisfied you today?
