I know, not enjoying the scoreline at this point but its been a hell of a game.Ill be honest. This has played out as I thought it would exactly after seeing the team sheet. A first half where we have absolutely no posession because the system Mourinho plays relies on a really disciplined defensively minded holding player. We don't have that in Pogba and Fellaini - they kept losing de Bruyne behind them. I said a few weeks ago in the Pogba thread that it'd be interesting to see if he could "run" the big games like this in that role. I doubted it. It'll work great against teams we're better than - we'll crush a lot of teams. But against excellent technical sides in big games on a big pitch - we'll struggle to get the ball.
We'll have to change this - like Mourinho has acknowledged in the second half. He must play Hererra, Carrick, Schneiderlin or Blind in midfield - or even Schweinsteiger - all he has to do is sit - they don't need to run - and shift Pogba further forward into the hole - sacrificing Rooney or making him play wide if necessary.
I was called out on it in the Pogba thread but as we see - we don't have enough of the ball in that system with that midfield.Herrera has been brilliant!- Status
