That isn't going to happen. There's no one on the bench to change things if we play like that. Mata will start I think in the absence of Pogba as he is the one who can keep hold of the ball. Otherwise there's no link between midfield and attack.
I was thinking Lingard to carry the ball and we need some pace in the right to pen their fullbacks in and to squeeze support for Mane.
I don't think we should play through Liverpool, that would mean we need creativity through the middle to hold up v pressing. Pace to slice them open would be the best approach imo

The BBC website's match build-up has no mention of Pogba potentially being absent; they're discussing at length where he'll play.

I’m noticing this. But knowing the BBC they will probably use it as a bigger news story when he’s ‘dropped/left out’ rather than injured.

That sums up the current standards of the Caf. One posters makes an assumption, the other says it's an absolute disgrace.
It's a result of the negative mindset that Mourinho has instilled in the team. Instead of focusing on our strengths and getting the best out of our team we are focused on nullifying teams and figuring out how to stop them from playing.

Yeah, but I waited to post until they'd put something up about the players arriving at OT. You'd think they would mention it if he wasn't seen, sensationally or not?

They have just mentioned it on 5 live that the news is Pogba won’t play.

I'm currently en route to old Trafford. I'm with my family and they're watching the game but I'm not as I couldn't get a ticket.

Where can I watch the game that's as close to the stadium as possible?

I've no idea how best to lineup against their counter-press. Could be a tricky game to play McTominey in, we'll need players who can carry the ball well.

shitting my pants, can never enjoy this. Only game of the season where the nerves get to me

If we park the bus at home it is a disgrace.

There's a difference between parking the bus and sitting deep looking to break quickly. The former is just backs-to-the-wall all-out defence, while the latter is an entirely legitimate strategy for dealing with a side that presses and passes the ball better than you do and has electric pace throughout their forward line.

I hate it too. The feeling of losing this game is awful. I hope Klopp gets it right tactically.

If Pogba isn't playing maybe we are going with

    --------------de Gea
    Tony---Smalling--Lindelof---Young
    -----McTominey----Matic
    Mata----Sanchez----Martial
    ------------Rom

Could see Lingard in there for Martial, with Mata moving central and Sanchez on the left too. Surely Fellaini isn't fit enough to start, as is Bailly though I'd like to see him in the starting lineup asap.

Not really. Being cocky is different from being confident. Sometimes one masks the other. I just can't feel the excitement for this game. Sure if we win I'll doubtless wind you up about finishing below us but not with the same gusto. You have Sevilla to worry about and we have other games too.
You do know, even if you win this game, its no guarantee you finish ahead of us.

Don’t think midfield battle is important against Liverpool. We can sit deep and let them have the ball and be the ones breaking. They want us to attack, have a high line and play direct counter attacks after winning the ball off us.

In otherwords, 4-2-3-1/4-5-1 should be fine today with Pogba.

Rumoured Liverpool team: Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Can, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

I agree on Lingard but Rashford I think would be better off in the last 20/25 minutes against tired legs. Mata should play over him not Lingard.

From Liverpool experience - Can you tell us how the Premier League Trophy is made please?

De Gea; Valencia, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw; matic, McTominey; A.young, Lingard, Sanchez; Lukaku

Use Shaw and Ashley young together to defend Liverpool strikers. Wile lingard up top will help the defence.

the only fixture I dread more is Liverpool away. I just cannot bare the thought of losing to this lot (I even usd to feel this way in the seasons when we ran away with the title) and I have a very bad feeling about today and sevilla.... of course I would love to be wrong. very, very wrong

Left side is too weak, that is where we lose the game. They will have to perform out of their skin to get us the win. I wouldnt start them all.

Agree with this,we"ll play 2 out and out defensive midfielders in a 4-2-3-1...

Lose this & go out to Sevilla and I think a lot of people will turn.

Happy That Bailly comes in. Feared for Lindelof. Not that he’s been bad, but if he made a mistake in this one it would of been horrendous, would be difficult to recover from
