We won’t be able to play through midfield so it will be Park the bus and long ball football today.

Lukaku will have to hold ball up very well for us to have chance of getting anything out of this game.

    Would like to see:

    De Gea
    Valencia - Bailly - Jones - Young
    Herrara - Matic - Pogba
    Sanchez - Lukaku - Martial
Bailly just came back from difficult injury so certainly isn't 100% match fit. Ridiculous when you look at it.
I'd take an ugly 0-0 now. Only good thing is that it will sort of play into our tactics of sitting deep and hit them on the counter when we can.
Where have you been for the last 2 weeks? Herrera, Jones and Martial are injured. Likewise Pogba.

Have to say I find these late injuries from Pogba and his general attitude lately very disappointing, it's almost as he sulked about Sánchez arrival and wants out of the club.
If he doesn't pull his finger out, then the sooner he goes the better, I wouldn't lose any sleep over his going.

Good to see Liverpool fans so cocky. Will make the inevitable implosion after Utd's win sweeter!
It’s just Dumbstar who is cocky. I know how hard a game this is. Our record at Old Trafford is dreadful as well.

I think it’ll be a draw, and I’d be happy with that.

Alternative perspective to that would be Pogba training too hard to the point of getting injured, and his concern for his poor form prompt him to asked Jose for his favored position while actually still behaving professionally (as Jose commented) and perform as a proper professional football player, doing the roles he is known not to like i.e. defending with good effort. Perhaps the press' dramatic stories get to you, my friend.

But seriously, this is just the first time (this year at least) he gets late injury, the one before this is illness. I see no problem with his recent attitude. Admittedly his earlier attitude starting around the final day of Jan seems suspected, yet recent attitude, behaviors and effort in games are all fine. Form and performance is still not up to good standard though.

But yes, admittedly him being unavailable for especially big games is annoying.

Both our wins at home against Top 6 (Spurs and Chelsea) came with a midfield three, meaning we didn't get overrun. Midfield 2 is asking for trouble but our options are just so thin, hope Mourinho can conjure something because we badly need it with both Pogba and Herrera out.

Could all these injuries force Mourinho to go with three at the back? Bailly, Smalling, Lindelöf?

I must have blocked that game out of my memory.

So he's missed Spurs H, City H, Liverpool A, Chelsea A. And maybe Liverpool at home today.
That's quite a lot, although have to consider context of this season.

He does have big injury first half of this season, very early too.

I'm interested in why he missed a lot of big games last season though, don't remember that much.

Edit: And a suspension for that City H game (red card got from Arsenal game).

I am absolutely bricking it. Will gladly take the draw.

We played a back 3 against Tottenham, with a midfield of Matic and Hererra with Mkhitaryan as no.10

Against Chelsea we played a midfield 3 and played awful in the 1st half.

The obvious move with Pogba's injury would be to draft in Mata but I've got a horrible feeling it'll be a McTominay Matic Fellaini midfield. Hopefully Fellaini's precarious injury will mean Mourinho decides against him.

This is a recipe for disaster if it happens. Because of Pogba's long absence during the first half of the season and lately because of the situation with his favourite position, our midfield is crying out for purposeful passing (that leads to quicker attacking transitions) and better handling of the ball just ahead of the areas where we set our low block defence. We are sort of options for this game but this doesn't mean we should deploy the midfield Klopp would have picked for us. Since Mata will most likely struggle against Liverpool's intensity (i'll give Jose that if he decides to bench him), at least Lingard should get the nod and start just ahead of Matic/McTominay.

Completely missing today's game as I'll be travelling through the mountains of Switzerland/France.

Bloody hope that when I eventually get some WiFi, I'll see a positive score line.

My head tells me it'll be 1-1/2-2.
Heart wants me to say 1-0.

McTominay was very poor against Palace. Partnering him with Matic against Liverpool will not be pretty.

I find Mata performs better against these clubs. He is one of the few players with the right composure in tight places and knows how to play keep ball whenever we have it.

Lingard would be a good shout to replace Pogba but I wonder whether he would be acting as a full back to cover against Salah.

    Rashford lukaku sanchez

    Scott matic lingard.

    Is what I see happening.

Yeah the most suspicious thing is that he chose a "gash" to be injured with. One of the easiest things to fake and dupe the medical staff with.
How is that easy to fake if I may ask?

Apparently only 15 squad members arrived at the lowry hotel. There was no sign of Pogba/Fellaini. One spot i think is open for either one of them. Really hope Pogba can make it in, even his presence is enough. Going in with Matic -mctominay midfield is very problematic, neither are mobile and mctominay specially finds it difficult to get out when other team is closing down.
Last year they harrased carrick and we were almost playing with 10 players. Pogba dint even play in reverse fixture and most of our creativity and drive will be absent without him. Really really hope he can play. Liverpool are lucky feckers having all of their first choice players fit.

Last year, it was the Klopps fault that our players were injured. This year, it's just down to luck that they aren't? It's clever training and rotation that have meant that even with extra games this year, our team is still fit and getting results

Lukaku, if isolated, then be is not going to be able to hold the ball. The United midfield might get overrun of we play a midfield two or if matic, fellaini, and mctominay team up in a midfield three.

Would have been happy if Herrera was fit, these type of games are where I would trust him to do the job more than pogba.

Lukaku will be pressed and will have to rely on long balls. Hopefully we win with Jose pulling the rabbit out of the hat but the football is not going to thrill other than the thrill of it being a United Liverpool match.

We were going to park the bus regardless of personnel.

Just on top of my head, I can't recall any big players being out for some of the other big games we've had?
Pogba, but not necessarily big players. Just missing players that could play like Martial for example. And Bailly although he's been out for a while.

I was talking about a more central role just ahead of the two pivots. Against Liverpool's pressing tactics and aggressiveness, Mata might get swallowed up whole. I know that Lingard is hot n' cold and you can't be sure what kind of performance you'll get from him but he seems a safer choice to start the game. I also supsect that when we have 10 men behind the ball, it will be Matic/McTominay who will be monitoring Salah and Mane's movements on the pitch just like in the Chelsea game.

If Pogbas out, that's a big blow.A midfield 3 of Fellaini-Mctominay-Matic looks underwhelming to say the least,so I dont think we"ll play 4-3-3.We might play 4-2-3-1 with Matic and Mctominay as the 2 defensive midfielders....

That isn't going to happen. There's no one on the bench to change things if we play like that. Mata will start I think in the absence of Pogba as he is the one who can keep hold of the ball. Otherwise there's no link between midfield and attack.

    "Leaked" team according to MEN.

De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Young, Matic, McTominay/Fellaini, Sanchez, Mata, Rashford/Lingard, Lukaku.

feckers have just compiled the best possible XIII from the possible players). Not much of a leak tbh.

Pogba out would/will be a big problem - our most press-resistant midfielder, and the only one really capable of playing the first ball out when we're looking to break (which we'll be doing a lot today).
