Does anyone else have a feeling that we either win here and lose against Barca or drop points here and go past Barca?

Ten Hag's first real test to change this feeling?

If I had a quid for every time I've read it's EtH's 'first real test' something or other on this forum...

    DdG

    Malacia
    Martinez
    Varane
    Dalot

    Sabitzer
    Fred
    Bruno

    Rashford
    Wout
    Sancho

get a lead and sub off Bruno Rashford and Wout after 60 mins.

It's not my fault the other guys were wrong. I assure you this is the real first test.

I wonder if we'll see a Weghorst-esque tactical switch at DM with Lindelof/Martinez in this game.

    ---------------------DDG------------------------
    Dalot - Maguire - Martinez - Shaw
    -------------------Lindelof---------------------
    ----------Sabitzer------Bruno---------------
    Sancho--------------------------Garnacho
    ------------------Weghorst--------------------

Would not be averse to seeing Iqbal or Mainoo, either.

Leicester are a predominantly transition style team, so we just need to play team like we did the last transition team we dominated i.e. Spurs.
Pressure them high up and press their outlets too.
    My lineup would be
    **************De gea
    Dalot Lindelof Martinez Malacia
    *********Sabitzer**Fred**********
    Sancho*****Bruno******Garnacho
    ************Weghorst**********
This way, Varane, Rashford and Shaw get a rest ahead of the Barcelona and Newcastle back to back. Dalot gets some fitness too.
2 -0 home win. We're gonna need the crowd's energy over the next few games.

I hope fans remain composed and not get their pitchforks out if we drop points against Leicester. We’ve been notoriously bad in games right after big European nights even under Sir Alex when we had better squad depth.

We just need to not lose this. A point is fine.

    Totally agree with this.

Flying back tonight or tomorrow? Not sure how much is left in the tank as a number of the United players put in a serious shift tonight. Leicester of course rested and off the back of two wins and 8 goals scored!

Yeah I just hope we don't suffer hangover

It's the PL no way ETH would leave Rashford out mates. Imo he will put Rashford on the wings for the first 60-70'. Then if we really need a goal he'll bring Garnacho on and move Rashford to the middle. Or if the match is safe he'd sub him off.

Leicester are in good form but so do us. The confidence must be sky high after last match. We'll have Martinez back, Casemiro and Sabitzer will play too. ETH will play his best XI possible as usual then manage the conditions of the players accordingly. Imo it'll be a pretty routine win for us. Probably 2-0.

Marcus needs to be rested for this game. We don't need him to be out for 4-6 weeks because of soft tissue problems (calf, groin or hamstrings) from overplaying. Ganarcho starts on the LW.

I just hope we don't pick up any injuries, anything more than a point is a plus.

Casemiro is serving the last match of his suspension

Probably a bit too far mate
Do you think maybe I should have included Butland over Heaton? Also I’m realising Jones might be a bit overawed at LB. Wout has proved he can be flexible, maybe he could have a tryout and see if he likes pretending to be Luke Shaw

We did see Nani in the directors box last night. Maybe we can get him back on the right wing.

Our fixture schedule is crazy and if we get past Barca there will be minimum another two high profile games added. We do not have the squad depth to continue to play every 3rd day for the remaining season and there is no point in beating Barca just to be knocked out in the next round. Barca is probably the strongest team remaining in the EL together with Arsenal, but there are no walkovers and for most of the teams left it will be the highlight of their season to play against United.
My fear is that by going after it all we might end up with nothing and top 4 is by no means secured. Liverpool and Chelsea could both be out of CHL after this round and then they only have one thing to focus on for the remaining season.
My priority will be to get 3 points against Leicester and win the Cup final. Barca is a bonus but should not be prioritised, we have already proven to the world yesterday that we are back amongst the best in the world.

Our schedule is mind boggling. We have 3 consecutive knock out matches after this, followed by Liverpool away.

Thy've won their last 3 games and will be feeling confident they can get a point. Won't be an easy game.

Just hoping the players will have enough time to recharge for this one.

Current fixture schedule has been brutal. Don't think I've ever seen it so busy.

Another massive opportunity to pull away from top 4 challengers because at least one of Newcastle or Liverpool will drop points this weekend.

I'd go full strength here to keep in touch with City then rotate heavily vs Barca in preparation for the cup final.

Honestly don't give a feck about the Europa currently. There's still a long way to go in the tournament and it's not that prestigious anyway.
2 hard games against Barca on Thursdays could end up costing us points against Leicester and the cup final vs Newcastle.

Really tough game without Casemiro, a point wouldn't be a disaster.

We shouldn't be losing to this lot at Old Trafford

Maddison being back for them is a big boost and always feel that he looks like producing something against us.

Feels like the type of game we need to be rock solid at the back and take our chances if they come our way after the effort we put in against Barca.

Massive couple weeks coming up for us. If we win this, go through against Barca and manage to clinch Carabao Cup, it gives us huge momentum and makes all those extra games worth it.

Can't wait till we're back in the CL and playing Tues/Sat or Wed/Sun on a regular basis. Thurs/Sun feels like a horrible turnaround.

Annoying timing, they look much more lively with Tete, and with Maddison back.

Have they sacked Brendon Rogers? Why is there a shift in their performances and they are getting wins?

I just want us to sneak a win on Sunday and all importance should be placed to the match against Barca, we get past them, I am very confident we can win the whole thing.

Plus we have another cup final next weekend. Ideally Thursday and Sunday are more important fixtures and I would probably keep Rashford on the bench for this one. Hopefully we have enough without him to get the one.

Really tough game without Casemiro, a point wouldn't be a disaster.
And with our schedule. Honestly if Newcastle and Liverpool draw on Saturday, I'll be much more relaxed about our game vs Leicester. Of course we should look to City and Arsenal and try catching them and not looking down to lower teams but being in 4 competitions may impact our league form.

Stick Fred on to shadow Maddison and we will be fine. I'm starting to get a mentality that we will beat anyone. So thanks to ETH for that!!

    Dalot Maguire Martinez Malacia
    Casemiro Sabitzer
    Sancho Bruno Garnacho
    Rashford

    vs Barcelona
    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony Bruno Rashford
    Wout

Erik will play the best side available.
    Rashford will start for certain.
Our goal should be to win every match we play. And we can only do that if we play the best players available.
Perhaps give minutes off if we are a couple of goals up.

Seems odd to omit their February fixtures to be fair to them. It will be a tough game. They've scored 4 in both their last two games, against Villa away and Spurs at home.

Felt redundant since the usual posters are in here dooming using those 2 matches. I just think we are in better form than either of those 2 teams they played and was just showing that while they had 2 good games it isn't like that Leicester is some wagon that is running thru teams.

Just our luck that Maddison is passed fit for this game after news of him being out. Watch him having a worldly and then go missing for weeks

    De Gea

    Malacia
    Martinez
    Maguire
    Dalot

    Fred
    Sabitzer

    Garnacho
    Bruno
    Sancho

    Rashford

Please, no more Weghorst. He's a liability.
