For all that Shaw has been great, he does get caught out of position quite a bit, which is probably the biggest justification for sticking with the double pivot.

McTominay and Fred are both good players, they just shouldn't be playing together. One of them needs to be playing alongside a cultured passer who can dictate the tempo, which is why Neves would be a good common sense signing.

With the sort of form that Shaw is in, where he’s basically a LB and a LW in one, it actually makes the Pogba as a “left winger” tactic pretty viable.
