    What makes me confident and optimistic is the fact that we got Varane to complement an already good defence. Champions League bloody Varane. As for going forward, a more settled Cavani, Sancho bringing unpredictability back and all other players more seasoned than last year. Add to this a hopefully recovered Rashford back to his best and the arguably most efficient attacking talent in the world (imo) in Greenwood with lots of output untapped.

    We also seem to have improved tactical know-how and coaching, which should cut out unnecessary mistakes and costly goals that didn't help last season.

    Yeah largely agree, haven’t been this excited for a season in a long while.

    I do place a lot of importance on that DM role though in order for us to really kick on and hit another level. We will definitely see the benefit of the new signings but a top level DM would help see us maximise the return on those other signings. Let’s see what happens in the last three weeks.
     
    I think we could easily put Martial Bruno Pogba and Greenwood but i am quite sure James gonna play few matches in August when we have rather Easy fixtures to show other teams he is capable of playing and his price should be high, i we somehow manage to keep him come September he will be on the bench for a long time.

    On what basis should that be the team? Surely we must play the players who have match fitness or did we learn nothing from the defeat against Palace last season.

    Hope that isn’t the team I think that midfield gets overrun. Would rather VDB in a Pogba left.
     
    Seeing these line ups with McFred in them makes my eyes bleed, not because you’re all wrong but because we’re going into the new season without fixing one of our glaringly obvious problems

    Who else is there? Rashford injured, Cavani isnt training with the team, Sancho isnt training with the team. We are left with Greenwood, Martial, James. People speculating that he may play Pogba on the left against Leeds.

    And Mata. Martial didn´t look match fit at all against Everton, needing too much time in every situation and was dispossessed every time he received the ball. Cavani has played a lot of football this summer, and are back in training this week, I think there is greater chance seeing him starting, and even Mata (then Greenwood in the middle).

    Martial looked no worse than Pogba who you have in your side and Cavani won't be in training this week at all, he won't even be in the country till the day before the game
     
    I figured out a possible reason why we didn't have one more pre season game scheduled.

    Wednesday is the Super cup.

    Perhaps we had that date penciled in, in advance.

    Is that so? Ole said Cavani was due to be back after the weekend.

    Anyhow, Martial has played 45 minutes since March, and Ole´s comments on his performance didn´t leave me the impression that he was starting any games quite yet. Frankly, I think there´s a greater chance we´ll see Mata (and then, Greenwood in the middle).

    Ole should move heaven and earth to avoid starting that midfield two, it fecking stinks. I'd like to see vdB given a go, maybe with Fred.

    It's hard to know who will be available to play 90 minutes, so that front line could be what we go with. I think we'll see Pogba on one of the wings though.

    Touch and go for Sancho, doubt Varane will be involved. Lindelöf is capable while we're waiting for him to settle.

    Can we sort out our home form please this season. Get that right and the title's coming to OT. With the run of fixtures, we should be top of the league come end of September.
     
    Martial looked miles off fitness wise last weekend - Greenwood will definitely start up top. Lingard/Elanga being out is a kicker - James vs Sancho for that right wing spot. I think Ole will want to have a game changer on the bench and I doubt Sancho will be fit for 90 so I’d assume this will be the team:

    Mctominay over Donny if he’s fit.
     
    Same line-up as the Everton game, VdB and Matic have got to start in midfield.
     
    I think the back five picks itself. The midfield and attack is difficult to guess though. It really could be anything but I will go with:

    Greenwood--Bruno--Pogba/James

    Martial is nowhere near fit, as he's been out for 5 months, but think he probably starts unless we want to play James on the right .I also wouldn't be surprised to see McFred start despite lack of pre-season minutes
