    FCC are having a terrible season just scraping second place in the league (14 points behind the winners, FC Midtjylland, who are just as bad as you guys recall from a couple of years ago) and only getting this far in Europe by being extremely lucky with easy opponents and favorable results in other games.

    In attack, FCC have been terrible at creating chances and scoring goals. Their best players are the two midfielders, Carlos Zeca (DM) and Rasmus Falk (AM but usually played out of position), who are actually technically gifted and can link up well with attackers but their creativity has been stifled by the manager, Ståle Solbakken, who is a tactical dinosaur insisting on playing a classic 4-4-2 with long balls and crosses from the FBs aimed at a physically dominant striker.

    That striker will probably be Jonas Wind who just returned from a bad injury. He's young and can be a handfull but he needs service. If Mohamed Daramy plays, he is one to watch. He's only 18 but has great pace and good dribbling ability but he's extremely hit and miss.

    Defensively, FCC have been comically bad this season with the CBs particularly prone to mistakes. The veteran CB Andreas Bjelland, who was bought to bring stability to the team, is slower than Gary Neville in his last games for us and a safe bet to give a way a couple of 100 % chances. The young CB next to him, Victor Nelsson, is a ball playing CB who doesn't excell at anything apart from being easily bullied.

    Its been two weeks since the Leicester game and the lads should be fresh for this. We are 3 games away from a trophy so why rest anybody?

    I think we need an explanation at the bottom of this page similar to the away goal rule before we played West Ham.
     
    I think we'll play the strongest 11 but we wouldn't have to. We'll win easily.

    Seeing as a few people already have gone through the FCK team and probably overstated their capacity I will do my take on it seeing as I watch quite a bit of Superligaen Football.

    Karl-Johan Johnsson: Started the 2018/19 season as the second choice but made the starting spot his. Solid goalkeeper and knocking on the door for the starting spot in the Swedish National Team if Robin Olsen keeps struggling.

    Guillermo Varela: A old Manchester United talent who never quite flourished. After a few unsuccessful loan spells, he moved back to Penarol in 2017/18 before signing with FCK in January 2018. He's easily spun defensively but can still attack his flank quite well. Will have some serious issues with the pace of Marcus Rashford.

    Andreas Bjelland: A veteran center back who has featured in the Danish National Team on occasion. Injuries have hampered his career and he's really slow these days. His backup Sotirios Papapagiannopoulos has previously featured in the Swedish National Team but has put on some lukewarm performances in the Danish league and could be back to Swedish Allsvenskan this summer due to lack of game time.

    Victor Nelsson: A young CB who FCK signed from danish football's biggest talent factory FC Nordsjaelland in 2019. He hasn't really excelled at FCK as they struggle to maintain a solid defense. He's still young but has yet to prove himself.

    Nicolai Boilesen: A decent left-back whose career has stagnated quite a bit. From being Ajax captain to struggling to get into the national team. He still has some quality On occasion Pierre Bengtsson plays instead who is a solid veteran option for defensive coverage. All in all the Full backs are defensively lacking in this FCK team.

    Zeca: Star of FCK 2019/20 team. Creates a lot as well as gets stuck in, a top player in the Danish league. Will be one to watch out for in the middle of the park, capable of creating offensive plays from his position.

    Robert Mudrazija: Hasn't really broken into the FCK team after signing in 2019 for 3 million euros. The position remains a weak point in this FCK side with utility man Jens Stage occasionally filling in.

    Rasmus Falk: Top drawer performance against Basaksehir. A solid player for FCK who like previously mentioned often gets shuffled out wide for some reason. 1 cap for the Danish National Team likely his only one. Decent but nothing more.

    Jonas Wind: Played behind the striker against Basaksehir but is mainly a forward, has a decent record, and some height to him which is useful for the offensively capable fullbacks crosses. Unlikely that he will leave FCK for something bigger at the moment. Just come back from a big injury and FCK will hope that he can maintain fitness and kick on to fulfill his potential.

    Pep Biel: A failed signing if we're being really honest. Hasn't been the player that FCK wanted him to be. They bought him with a view to develop him and sell him on for big money.
    Fills in for the often injured Viktor Fischer who came home to Copenhagen for what he expected to be a short term but injuries have seen him stay at FCK for 2 years and his persistent issues are unlikely to give him a transfer to a bigger club anytime soon. When fit and in form he's a very capable player. Unfortunately, that has been a rare occasion recently.

    Mikkel Kaufmann: Signed from AaB in January for about 2 million euros. Has a tough job to carry the torch from FCK legend veteran striker Dame N'doye who recently left the club after his contract expired. He will have to carry the attack with help from Wind as the regular mainstay striker Michael Santos is suspended for three games after assaulting a policeman when FCK knocked out Celtic at Celtic Park earlier in the campaign.


    How did FCK get here?
    They scrapped together a second-place in the luckiest way finishing second after Öresund rivals Malmö FF after losing the final game at home to Malmö FF but going through by virtue of Dynamo Kyiv not being able to beat Lugano at home in a competitive but weak group.

    They then went on to beat a poor Celtic team in a surprise victory at Celtic Park as well as knockout a veteran Basaksehir team in a strong performance in their last game.

    How did they fare domestically?
    They were in the running for parts of the season but never really fully threatened FC Midtjylland who went on to become champions. They spectacularly collapsed in the Superliga Championship playoff (yes they have that in Denmark) only winning 3 out of 10 games. A disappointing season for the reigning champions.

    Summary:
    I personally am glad that we face this FCK team and not the FCK team of 2018/19 which was in my opinion a lot stronger.
    They had Skov, Vavro, and Ankersen who were all better players than the ones currently occupying their positions. The rebuild hasn't been as successful and Manchester United has a very good chance to beat a competitive but stagnant FCK side.

    Sad to admit, but I'm struggling to get excited about the competition this year.

    I'd be gutted if we picked up any mid-long term injuries, and disappointed if we reflect on 20-21 as a season hampered by physical and mental fatigue from the last 12 months. A red card wouldn't help in the CL. We could play our strongest team and lose to Copenhagen. We could play our 2nd XI and beat Milan in the final. Obviously one of those options gives us a better chance, but it's not black-and-white.

    I think I'm being overly negative due to the effect injuries had on us this season. Losing Pogba, Rashford, Martial for extended periods had a massive impact, which we only managed to overcome because of the bloody pandemic extending their recovery.

    And there's no fans!

    Hopefully my mindset changes over the next couple of days, would rather just enjoy it. I'll probably be excited by kickoff.
     
    We should give de Gea the summer off with a promise he'll start in the league. next season. He needs to chill in Spain
     
    Everyone has had a good break now. Go full strength and then take off the likes of Matic and Bruno once the game is won.

    Might as well not play football at all then. They just came back from a 3 month break.

    I can see your point about injuries but it's a trophy and I think I might be right in saying that this could be our longest stretch in terms of successive seasons without winning a trophy since 1990 ( It's been nearly three seasons since we won something). Ole will be aware of the trophy as a stepping stone both for his reign and the team.

    What are our plans with holidays and pre seasons? I'm all for going for a trophy but next season preparations have to take priority. If these games are going to be in the middle of the ideal rest period we should be rotating as much as possible.
