If you guys think that just because Blind slid off the pitch during their attack, that means the goal was offside then teams could just position a player there at all times and only have him run on when someone goes through... it's ridiculous.

As has been cleared up by several people by now, the goal is legitimate.

I don’t think that’s correct. If you’re off the pitch you are not active. If the ref thinks you did it to gain an advantage - you get booked.

If it didn’t matter - why would you get booked?

Wasnt the rule changed to stop attacking players from going off the pitch, standing behind the goal line during a throw in and once the ball was thrown they would run back onto the pitch to not be offside?
You can't be offside on a throw in.

Gerrard and Linekar saying the rules say he's off the pitch so it's offside.
Norwegian pundits says it’s onside, as you can’t deliberately put yourself out of play by running over the goal line.

I wonder if that would work though. Would’ve been amazing to see

Law 11, concerning offside, outlines it like so:

'A defending player who leaves the field of play without the referee’s permission shall be considered to be on the goal line or touchline for the purposes of offside until the next stoppage in play or until the defending team has played the ball towards the halfway line and it is outside their penalty area. If the player left the field of play deliberately, the player must be cautioned when the ball is next out of play.'

My first thought was of some bullshit involving Crespo for Chelsea one time, where he left the pitch and was deemed onside in a certain phase of play, though my memory of it isn't great and obviously it was a while ago.

It seems it was a legit goal, so let's get back to saying how poor we were for most of that half. We should be much much better in the second.

Logically, if a player willingly runs off the pitch then he's still active.
Should a player activate an off-side merely by walking off the pitch at the appropriate moment? of course not.

Poor defensive line from United in whole particularly from Smalling.

Shaw looking sharp in attack but still falling asleep in defence.

Lack the finishing and the final ball.

No it's not. Blind is an active player, and 'willingly' goes off the pitch. What would be ridiculous is if a player could just walk off the pitch and place an opponent in offside.
Makes sense in that case. But still a shite goal to concede.

    Thanks!
So Blind is 4th when it comes to most distance (as a cb) and 1st in passing ( in both accuracy as most passes ). As i've said so many times before, please don't sell him.

Unless the ref has given permission to the player being off the pitch i.e treatment for injury, then the player is deemed to be 'in play' and level with the goal line regardless if he's just slid off the pitch or flown into Stand G.

Yep. Remember RVN taking advantage of this in an international tournament.

Otherwise defenders out wide would just throw themselves off the pitch when theres a cut back hoping something happens.

Smalling fecked up the whole situation by being behind the whole line.

Got a gif of the goal, your lordship?

"A defender who leaves the field during the course of play and does not immediately return must still be considered in determining where the second to last defender is for the purpose of judging which attackers are in an offside position. Such a defender is considered to be on the touch line or goal line closest to his or her off-field position. A defender who leaves the field with the referee’s permission (and who thus requires the referee’s permission to return) is not included in determining offside position."

I guess since he wasn't off the pitch with the ref's permission Blind was considered to be on the goal line and therefore the goal is legit. Fair enough.

Seems the ref and linesman actually know the rules. Who'd have thought it?

Shaw was good going forward but bad in defending

To all of you saying that Blind shouldn't count; do you think that you can play someone offside by just stepping outside the pitch?

He was taken outside by an action that he made while on the pitch. Of course he should count as playing him onside. Had he been receiving treatment he wouldn't have counted.

The thing I'm most annoyed about is the linesman looks like my old woodwork teacher and he was a twat.

No, you simply stay active without getting booked.

It appears BT have cleared it up. If the ref thinks you can make it back on then you’re active.

If you can’t make it back on in side your not active

They've said it's becuase his sliding off the pitch wasn't accidental. I don't think he's in control of himself sliding off the pitch. It wasn't his intention to be off the pitch.

    Thanks!

People still question though who is the best ball playing defender we have.

In a way it is good that we do seem to have some in blind, rojo and lindelof.
