Our management must be the worst in the league. We have no good plan to break teams down.
Everyone knew Palace would defend deep.

Says a lot that we couldn’t even play through them when they did manage to press us.

We’re bad against pressing teams and teams that sit back.

McTominay is actually playing no worse than he did all last season; it is just that people are seeing him for what he is now: trash.

We were awful last season when he was in the first-team. He was a first-teamer during our worst start to a PL season ever. He is just trash by United standards.

If Ole doesnt get VDB and Greenwood at the start of the second half I'll loose my head.

Shaw has also been particularly shite. Stopped sprinting back for their goal, totally failed to read the danger as per usual with him. Would have been easily dealt with if he'd kept going.

One side we've got Shaw and Rashford playing absolute stinkers. And on the other side we've got two Championship players having a contest to see who can pass to Lindelof the most in 90 minutes.

Well, that was terrible. Both Lindelof and TFM to blame for the goal, and you could argue De Gea could have been better positioned.

McTominay isn't a defensive midfielder. He lacks the positioning, passing and tackling ability to be one. When Bruno is higher up the pitch, and Pogba isn't really putting in the shift, we are extremely easy to bypass in midfield as a result. Fosu Mensah has had a very poor game, as well - out of position, can't cross, can't tackle, can't win 1 on 1s. Take James lack of footballing intelligence and composure and our right flank is non-existent.

Going forwards, it's not been easy to link up against 2 banks of four from Palace, and both Bruno and Martial are being crowded out of possession.

Let's hope we see a different team in the second half, but concedeing looks more likely than scoring.
    Agreed. Good post.

We are really struggling for three reason.

    1. the tactical reason is that Mctominay is not able to support the centre backs in bringing the ball out of the defence, forcing Fosu-Mensah deeper and still not replacing the attacking threat lost by Fosu Mensah being deep. The lack of progression has also forced Bruno to come deeper than he would like and has isolated Martial.

    2. James is supposed to provide the width on the right on his own, but clearly lacks the ability to do so. That in turn with Rashford continuing his horrid form means that we are getting nothing from the flanks, not even moving bodies. Bruno, Shaw and Pogba are literally being tasked with everything right now.

    3. Of course the lack of match fitness is apparent. Our press isn't as strong and the week advantage they have in playing is showing. Conceding that early goal was stupid and in truth also exposed our chief weakness, having a big pitch with two slower defenders. Macguire offers a lot, both in the build up and defensively, but Lindelof is literally offering nothing.

Ole has lost the dressing room based on that half.
He doesn’t have a dressing room more like. He needs proper backing and those ginger goblins are fecking him up the ass!

Who do you play on the right if Greenwood isn't ready due to various misdemeanours though?

    It's James, Mata or Lingard.
    Or change formation
It is Greenwood, Greenwood and Greenwood. He can't be left out because of misdemeanours. Otherwise why is Maguire there. Greenwood has to be on second half from start.

There’s lots of moaning about Fosu-Mensah but I think he’s been our best player! Got in to a few good crossing positions and is at least overlapping. Granted, being the best out of that lot is no great feat but he’s an easy target here and it’s unjustified IMO
Yeah he’s looked good , but then again that’s being compared to shaw as a fullback

Did you see him anywhere in CP two best chances?

Its just sooo obvious this Utd team barely gets any coaching from game to game but excuses are always about quality of players. Its my biggest criticism of Ole, he is no coach and his teams play like it!
Wow you didn’t even wait until the end of our very first match of the season to start bashing Ole.

A manager who cannot coach yet finished third in the best league in the world, have you ever seen such a thing.

I'm starting to lose interest in football.

    Maybe I'll pickup coding.
Apps are where its at. Five years ago all my mates were getting into app development and I laughed at them. Now they are all multi millionaires while I'm sitting here watching us struggle against Palace.

I can't understand Ole's tactical naivety, and just to prove the point, how many non-professional nobodies in Redcafe have all said that James doesn't do well against teams sitting back? And lo and behold, James in once again playing against such a team. If a bunch of Redcafers can see it then obviously Ole must; but that begs the question.....if he knows it's ineffective, and continues to use him in these kind of matches, what does it say about his tactical flexibility that he can't find tactical solutions that don't require him to feature?

With Palace in full emergency brake mode, bring on VDB on for McTominay and Greenwood on for James. Give us a fukking chance to score goals. A draw here is out of the question.

James should never be starting any league game. Absolutely miserable and beyond poor. If only he could square the ball to Rashford, he never uses his brain, never.

If you think the palace side is better than ours on paper, I really would question your understanding of football in general.

With the form that many of our players are in, then yes the Palace team is better today.

Looks like Greenwood could come on. Thankfully looks like Ole isn’t waiting until the 85th minute.

Perhapa they could lend the glazers a few quid to get sancho in..

Ole needs to show some balls now and not make our subs in the 80th minute. Changes are need now. Shambles, thank God a crowd didn't have to pay to witness that.
