That’s nonsense though. Jose hardly rest his attackers by taking off the squad completely. They’ll always be on the bench at least. If Martial is not seriously injured and is out of the squad, it’s definitely not because he’s being rested. That’s just some invented tripe to justify Jose’s action.

He has done it before with Martial last season but people here have very short memories. Mikhitaryan too has suffered this too, though deservedly most of the times. Those players are just more prone to being used as scapegoats when things go wrong or are more likely to be punished.

There are some players who can do no wrong though, and can never get left of the squad unless they’re seriously injured.
Rashford probably is the one who needs rest given he has played more minutes, and has been in disgusting form the last few games but that’s never gonna happen. In fact this season Rashford is the one player who has somehow managed to get an appearance in all our games.
    Disgusting form?
    What a hilarious rant

    Lukaku wide right, seriously?
Yeah, playing off the right. He's drifted centrally from that position a few times and looked good. Ibra could play second striker with Lukaku up top, but wouldn't surprise me to see Ibra up top, Mata in the middle, Rashford left and Lukaku right.

That's one of the strange things about the team under him, individually I think the defenders have been good, but his insistence in trying to play Pogba and a #10 is always going to leave huge spaces to put our back 4 under threat, we can't strangle teams with control.

De Gea has made a high number of saves - the idea that we have been defensively solid under Jose is rubbish. Worrying that City look close to VVD and we are persisting with the likes of Smalling.

Interested to see how it works out. Anything to get him going.

    De Gea
    Young, Jones, Rojo, Shaw
    Matic
    Mata Pogba Rashford
    Ibra
    Lukaku

Could be an interesting line up. Looking forward to the game.

It's a 4231. Young and shaw quick enough full backs to compensate for mata lack of pace. Once they have license to go forward

They were also looking at Jonny Evans doesn’t mean anything

Would be just like us just to have the two biggest forwards in the league and not deliver any crosses.

Interesting that Ibra starts. Didn't expect that cause he didn't look that good against Bristol. If Burnley park the buss having two strikers can help a lot though. Hopefully the link up between our attackers can be good.

The protection centrally is definitely lacking, Matic has too much to do in a lot of games I feel, the problem today though is likely to come from the lack of mobility up the top end though.

It means they’re looking for a certain profile of player that suits the style of football they’re looking to develop.

United’s policy is scattergun in comparison, with no obvious style.

Anyone understands Rojo ahead of Lindelöf in this? Wouldn't we need a centerback who can play from the back? Besides, he's in better form.

I'm guessing the only reason Rashford is in team is put crosses in for Lukaku and Zlatan. That's one thing he has over Martial. No other reason for him to be playing over Lingard or Martial.

We signed Lindelof to do the same job.

Signing another CB will be total pointless to us. City need another one because Kompany gets injured a lot. Just because they want to sign VVD doesn't mean anything regarding us.

    We need transfers in attack.

    He's injured.

Well this has 1:0 written all over it. The queen could bet all her houses on it, including the one in Westminster.

' However, Martial picked up a slight knee injury in the draw against the Foxes and was left out today as a precaution, according to SFR Sport. The French publication describes Martial’s injury as ‘small’ and says he will be in the stands to watch his team-mates take on the Clarets.'

SFR saying Martial has a small injury. So can the Jose' conspiracy theorists please give it a rest.

    Matic, Pogba, Bailly, Lukaku, Ibrahimovic

All of them are physical beasts with good levels of technical play. Looks to me that the manager has a clear idea of what team he wants to build.

In fact ask opposition managers what they fear in this team; and it is two things; physicality and efficient counter attacking.

We shouldn't be playing Mata, Rom and Ibra (as well as Matic) at the same time really, IMO. It will slow us down quite a bit. Hopefully there is a plan to get around the lack of mobility.

Lukaku has a good top speed but we haven't seen him run much so far. He seems to be told to stay put.. maybe we'll see some of his diagonal movement today

We’ve spent 60-70m on two new centre halves since JM joined and are still no closer to knowing what our first choice combination is. We also play a failed winger at left back.

The optimists can think Blind is on the bench as midfielder, instead of us featuring 3 centerback on the bench.

Not true. You’re implying that Jose buys players without a thought. Given that 2 of our defenders were SAfs signings, 2 were LVGs and 2 are Jose’s, it’s always likely to look a mish mash of styles. He can’t just get rid of all his squad.

Who happens to be very good

We'll presumably be attacking predominantly down the left side with Shaw providing overlap. Expecting a pretty solid performance, not least from those players who have underwhelmed recently.

Also don't think it's a coincidence that Jose gives a start to Ibra just after slagging off the team for immaturity.

It also allows us to play the long-ball tactic to more attacking positions if we are forced to go that way.
