There’s an optical illusion that happens if the distance is small enough it can look like the line is slightly bent and you can see a small strip of green even if the ball is overlapping millimeters.
Edit: not that we ever saw a top down view. This illusion can be even more pronounced from a sideways angle. That why the computer graphic is so important.
