Really starting to annoy me how he'd rather play a senior player out of position than a youth player in his actual position.
Same and it goes back a long time with previous managers. And I'm sure more often than not it doesn't work out and we have troubles in that area.

I’m surprised with why we haven’t gone back to Bruno playing a bit deeper. Did well there at the tail end of last season. If we’re moving him out of position I’d rather it be there. Doesn’t have a great effect at RW.

Pretty much expected, there was no way he would start Pellistri on the right
I can't remember Bruno ever being good in that position, but ETH still pushes for it

Have you ever considered that Pellistri might not be the second coming of Messi, only hamstrung by the three managers who have seen him in training not bothering to give him a shot on the right wing?

Probably wasn’t true and isn’t true.
Yup it wasn't. I underestimated ETH.

He'd rather play Bruno on the right than giving Pellistri a chance. When all your other competition at right wing is out and your manager prefers to start another player out of position it's not looking good. ETH clearly doesn't rate Pellistri. Just sell him while we can. Once he stops starting for his national team regularly he will have no value left and we will give him away on a free.

We should be beating that team no problem at home.

    Famous last words!

Garnacho has done nothing to prove his ability to start so I think Fernandes starting on the wing is correct albeit frustrating. Plus we might need the midfield box of 4 against their midfield as they are so well organised on the ball.

I think we might see Bruno drift into the centre as the game goes on with Rashford moving to the right and Garnacho coming on to occupy the left

I think starting Pellestri would've sent a better message to he who cannot be named.

Pellistri is still a young and very inexperienced player and today's game is against a tough opponent after an international break. What happens if Pellistri struggles to make an impact in the game or even has a poor performance? Pellistri and Garnacho as two options coming off the bench to freshen things up seems about right to me.

I can understand why Bruno is playing where he is, despite how annoying it is. We're caught short. We can't play Eriksen and Casemiro as a midfield two in this game as we'll get ripped open through the middle. Eriksen in his position gives us some creativity, and Bruno and Eriksen can't occupy the same position. The only real way around not putting Bruno on the right and getting Eriksen in the team is to play some sort of weird formation with two 10s behind Hojlund, but then where does Rashford play and we'd get destroyed on the wings.

I see where you are coming from but he is 21 already, starts for his national team regularly and is currently the only fit natural right winger we have in the squad. He sure as hell is never going to start against Bayern anyways in mid week. Might as well just sell him. We can atleast recoup some of the money while he still starts for his national team.
There are easier games than Bayern or Brighton ffs. He's a young player, he'll be eased into a bigger role if he's good enough for it. You don't just sell him because you don't start him against a good team. He was never going to start here.

I'm just relieved to see Martinez back. The right side is concerning. Dalot vs Mitoma will probably be their best bet. Bruno needs to be on point defensively. Hope McT continues his international form.

I really need the players to show that they care today. These last few weeks has been utterly abysmal with all the shit that has surrounded the club and I've actively avoided football news. Really need that win to remove the sense of apathy.

Fernandes starting on the right is no surprise but McTominay vs Brighton will be a disaster.

Shows that when Mount is fit we'll be seeing Bruno or Mount on the right before Garnacho/Pellistri. And Amrabat in for McT.

    Good line-up

Garnacho and Pellistri to come on after an hour once the game has settled down.

I suppose Bruno will start on the right, fair play to all the posters who predicted that.

I suppose we’ll see how they actually line up. Possibly it will still be 4141 with Eriksen and McT in the Bruno and Mount positions. In some ways I hope so because it’s clearly the long term plan but given the personnel it is highly questionable.

I’m disappointed not to see either Nacho or Pellistri but I’m sure there are good reasons. Slightly depressing anyway.

Disappointing that Pellestri doesn't start, more and more I'm starting to think Ten Hag is actually a pragmatic coach, just my opinion.

With Garnacho he comes on with something to prove. When he starts he seems to play like he has nothing to prove. At the moment he is far more of a menace coming off the bench.

Should've been sold this summer. He's not good enough for this level.

Instead we're giving him a new long-term contract, because reasons.
What are you basing that on? Whenever he’s played he’s looked dangerous and he starts for his country.

Lets give Bruno on RW a go with a proper striker, maybe it'll turn out differently from previous attempts.

It's not a slight on Dalot to point out AWB does very well against Mitoma. It makes zero sense to drop AWB for this game of all games, you need your best 1v1 defender up against Mitoma.

I would have liked to have seen Pellistri play but I do think some are over rating him in a desperate situation. It’s not a huge shock he’s not selected.

Have you ever considered that Pellistri might not be the second coming of Messi, if only any of the three managers who have seen him in training had bothered to give him a shot on the right wing?
thats is a hyperbole beyond proportion, the thing is playing your best player out of his best position creates more problems than solving one. Also why stick with a tested failed method, why dont try to gamble? You'll never know what you get until you try it, no?

Could we be looking at a midfield diamond here?

    Rashford. Höjlund

    Bruno

    Eriksen. Scott

    Case

Bruno and Dalot vs Mitoma is definitely notca silly idea and definitely won't cause any problems

Might as well stick you at right wing then because it'd be a nice little gamble.

But how can he get used to tough games if he doesn't play in them? We'll never see how good he is and how he develops if Pellistri is not given chances.
You don't give a chance to young players against a top team. You give them chances to ease in in the easier games, and if he impresses in those then he'll play more in bigger games. It's pretty simple. Brighton and Bayern are obviously not games where he'll start or even get subbed on in. Burnley, the 2 palace games... look for those.

He hasn't though, for us or Uruguay. He runs around a lot, with little to no actual output.

This is the sort of game where I wish Mount was available. I think he could be quite handy on the right hand side and maybe we'd then have Bruno through the middle instead.
