Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Of course not, but I did expect us to be better off the ball. Yes, I understand he's new and will need his players but we really shouldn't be losing 3 nil to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, in my opinion.

Sure, but which of those three goals is on Amorim? Not the free kick and not the pen. Maybe there’s something on Amorim on the third goal, but in truth it was individual defensive mistakes and not something wrong with coaching that conceded all three goals

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's really hard especially if you saw the game. We concede one foul and then a goal. We were winning second balls and creating chances. We conceded a penalty and then the third goal. It was really hard for the fans. We have to go again next game.

"We have a lot of situations where they managed to score a little bit similar to Tottenham. It's really hard on everyone in the stadium. We have to fight this moment.

"We have to maintain the calm when you suffer a goal. It was similar in the last match. The players need to understand the game has different moments.

"I always expected [job to be tough], especially in these busy months. We are ready to face the challenge."

On Rashford for Boxing Day: "It depends, we will see."

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim: "It's hard to push for two, three wins and we are trying. This game was hard on us. We suffered again on set-pieces and we were a bit nervous, I felt it in the stadium. The penalty and another goal are really hard here. We tried to score some goals but it was a tough match so let's move on.

"If you look at the game, we were not conceding anything before the first goal, we had opportunities. If we manage to score the first goal then the game should be different. We want to score but we are too nervous. We have to fight this.

"After the penalty, we need to control the game better because we know this situation is really hard. We have to control better this moment.

"We have to focus on the job and not what you feel in the stadium. It's the only way I know how to focus my players. We have to suffer again but we will try to win. We will do it until the end."

Big reality check today, which shows there is a lot of work to do here. Could easily have been a different outcome but it was not such a big shock to lose.

Hopefully they can pick themselves up for the next game.

Lisandro clearly. Mainoo is extremely slow. Bruno slow and weak. Malacia.

That's over half of our outfield starters.

Martinez is a tenacious, front-foot defender who typically comes out on top in most of his duels. The claim that Mainoo is slow is puzzling to me; I don’t think he’s any slower than Ryan Christie, who was a key player in Bournemouth's midfield.

Malacia, it’s true, has lost some of his edge recently, but that’s to be expected following his injury. Prior to that setback, he, like Martinez, was an aggressive, front-foot defender—slight in build, yes, but one who consistently won duels.

Whenever we lose, the narrative of physicality often comes up, but the reality is that we were beaten this time due to poor defending as a collective unit, compounded yet again by a set-piece goal. Additionally, our finishing left much to be desired; we had several chances to level the game when it was still 1-0.

........Let Amorim do the clear out we so badly need.

Problem is, we don't have the dosh, have our hands tied because of the financial rules and restrictions and a Fire Sale won't bring in enough money.
The clear out will be a long slow process.
Amorim is stuck with most of this squad for some considerable time.

I’d say get rid of Rashford, Garnacho et al to raise the most cash, then promote the 17/18 year olds from the academy while buying a really good striker.

Gutted with the 3-0 scoreline but not really surprised that we lost as I was predicting a draw at best. Bournemouth are a good side and like I said earlier, I was very surprised how majority of folk on here wrote them off before kick off thinking it’ll just be a walk in the park . Clearly not watched them much this season.

Yet Rasmus has been much better at those things today. Rasmus is raw and should be understudy, but he is much much much better than Zirkzee

I don't agree. He's a better finisher but he seldom gets in good positions. Zirkzee on the other hand is not as good a finisher but he does have better movement in the box.

We can and must do better than both, but I reiterate that Zirkzee is a better team player (he's linked up well with Bruno and Amad) and he's chipped in with assists as well. We need a better starting CF. Again, Zirkzee is not a natural CF and Amorim has mentioned this himself.

It’s just sad that somebody who showed so much promise and talent, who we know can be a great player on his day and has grown up at the club should go out in this way.

Probably more sentimental than realist, but I’m a football romantic. He was supposed to be our star.

Since when has he not been a CF hahaha

Amorim has stated that he sees Zirkzee as a false 9, which is what most people who have watched him and who did their research concerning his time at Bologna have stated. He's more of a link up player and second striker

Do you actually watch our matches or just read stats ? But yeah by your logic what an error SAF made by getting rid of RVN, Beckham, Keane, Ince, Hughes, Kanchelkis all vastly superior players to Bruno and actual title winners.
Bruno is miles better than Ince or Kanchelkis. Probably a more effective player than Beckham, and is technically better than RVN ever was but less impactful because of position.

My wife just said, who is an equestrian and not into football:

“You can’t turn donkeys into race horses. You can put a bad jockey on a great horse and it’ll win. You can’t put a great jockey on a donkey and expect a result.”

Let Amorim do the clear out we so badly need.
Problem being the same it has been for many years of mismanagement by the executives; we cant sell - our players wages are simply too high for the standard of player they are. No top club which could afford them wants them, and no poorer club who is at the standard they are at can afford them. And this will remain a problem because we gave such long-term contracts to so many. And if they DO depart on a free transfer, we get nothing but loss from the FPP perspective. So we're essentially stuffed.

Why do the players continue to get a pass? They let the fans and manager down today with their idiotic individual errors and piss poor finishing.
Same as it was for ETH. This season we played relatively well but just couldn’t score and conceded joke goals for the most part, Amorim has the same issue. The part I do think is unique to United is the pressure externally is so toxic, it makes any managers job here double as hard.

Most people who watched him from Bayern know hes a failed no 9 attempting to reinvent himself as a false 9. Which he is also failing at

That's not today. Rasmus should have had an assist after a great pass to Garnacho and was far more involved in our play. His pressing is also much better. Zirkzee has this weird thing where he stops mid press

It's a mixed bag. A good number of Bayern fans didn't want to see him leave but understood he needed minutes to develop, minutes he wasn't getting much at Bayern. He was considered a promising player. Kompany even wanted to sign him back last summer before we purchased him, along with Juventus and Milan. Zirkzee worked well with Kompany while on loan at Anderlecht on 21/22. He scored 31 goals for them and made 16 assists in his two seasons in Belgium. He then scored 13 goals and provided 6 assists for Bologna and made the serie A team of the season. He's been more productive than Hojlund pre United.

Zirkzee also provided a flick to Bruno for a shot that he hit just wide. His pressing was more than fine against Spurs when he came on and he did more in a few minutes (including scoring) than Hojlund managed for 60 minutes

Again that's one game. Højlund has shown more overall and has more intensity, which is completely non existing in Zirkzee

At the end of the day they're both lacking in that CF role, but if we do buy a seasoned CF this January I feel Hojlund will struggle more for minutes because Zirkzee best fits a different role in this squad.

I think Højlund has a higher ceiling but I agree that neither of them should be our starting striker. We need a ready made striker to lead the line.

The underlying stats show that this team is improved under Amorim: example xG today favoured United but individual errors cost us. We’re no longer seeing the huge gaps in midfield in defence that led to counter attack after counter attack under ten Hag. Amorim needed a full preseason and I believe Berrada and Wilcox will give him significant leeway this season allowing time for the squad to adapt.

I don’t disagree but xG/errors sums up this season under ETH. They play completely different football but same issues remain.

He didn't score 31 goals for Anderlecht he has never scored 31 goals for any club outside of youth football. He played as a number 9 there by the way, same at Bayern and his first season at Bolongna.

Like you said though, hes not a number 9 because he played a single season as a false 9 and played well there for 6 months.
