Has to rest some players. In danger of it being like under van gaal when we had Donald Love and Cameron Borthwick Jackson as our full backs. And Paddy Mcnair and Tyler Blackett as our CBs.

I'd hope that EtH will rest some players, but I'm thinking it's all but guaranteed we see Dalot, Martinez, and Bruno start. Bruno has had a game off and Dalot will miss Fulham through suspension anyway.

The rest of the starting line-up is debatable, but EtH won't want to lose two in a row and kill momentum. So, I think the starting XI is going to be a bit stronger than a lot of us will predict.

I'm not convinced he'll start both Fred & McTominay even though I suspect most of us would rather he just did.

I'd also like to see Antony, Martial, and Sancho if they're all fit enough to start, but that's hard to see due to them all lacking match fitness now. Hoping Garnacho keeps his place as it's likely he will lose it after the busy Christmas schedule anyway.

    I'd be hoping for:

    Dubravka
    Dalot Maguire Martinez Malacia
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony Bruno Garnacho
    Rashford

Sub on Sancho, Martial, McTominay, Zidane if possible.

I like that EtH has gone for consistency and picked the same group of players a lot. However, I think it's evident that replacing some players is much more difficult when the options to do so are clearly not match ready.

If we'd have brought Donny on more often, or started him in a couple more Europa League games over Bruno, it might have been easier for him to slot into the side when required. Instead, he just looked invisible.

Hopefully, Malacia can do a job at Right Back as he's actually played some games. But this could be an issue when Dalot is suspended next league game.

    De Gea
    Dalot Maguire Martinez Malacia
    McTominay Fred
    Elanga Bruno Rashford
    Ronaldo

Probably something like this. Eriksen, Casemiro, Shaw can use a rest. Martial too soon to start. Lindelof/Maguire doesn't matter.

No rest all our big first XI players FFS they are burnt out just play fringe and U21's please

We have to win. We haven't won a pot since 2017 for fecks sake.

Rather rest players and risk losing, will definitely lose my shit if we play most of this team again that's for sure.

Lose this one and the sack watch starts ticking. Tick tock, tick tock.

Full squad rotation. Our players desperately need rest. Let Martial have 45 mins to get some match fitness before Fulham.

    Dubravka
    AWB - Lindelöf - Maguire - Malacia
    Savage - Iqbal
    Sancho
    Pellistri - Martial - Garnacho

Looking at the squad and fixture congestion for next year, we could probably do without the League Cup. Filing this game under the meh category, for now. Much rather beat Fulham, which puts us in a good position for the second half of the season.

VDB still doesn't have enough actual game time for us, he's going to be so rusty so I'd play him again as we need more squad options and we have to persevere, Eriksen, Casemiro, Rashford, Ronaldo, Martinez & Dalot all need a rest, we don't have the squad to keep up with this cup anyway to be honest, I'd play the following:

    Dubravka
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Malacia
    Mctominay Fred
    Sancho VDB Elanga
    Martial (For 60 mins)

I wouldn’t be disheartened if we got knocked out. Focus on Premier League and Europa League with our small number of trusted players. Happily duck the FA Cup too this season.

Would even prepare we just concentrate on Premier league.... Europa league fixtures for this team may be too much

Do we play AWB at RB in this to get him some minutes before the Fulham game given Dalot is suspended?

AWB barely played even in the pre season. I think he is one of those not part of ETH plans. My guess is Lindelof/Malacia playing there

    Dubravka

    AWB
    Maguire
    Lisandro
    Malacia

    McTominay
    Fred

    Sancho
    Bruno
    Garnacho

    Martial

Will probably put out a strong team and win this. Then drop pts to Fulham in the league. We aren't winning the League Cup regardless, or any trophy for that matter.

Similar to last year with west ham, meeting them in the league and then this cup within a few days. I want a win, but dropping out of this competition isn't a great loss really.

Might want to take this seriously now. Schedule could clear up very quickly.

    Dubravka
    AWB Slabs Lindelof Malacia
    Fred McTominay
    Antony Bruno Garnacho
    Rashford

Obviously dependant on fitness tests.. but seeing AWB, Maguire, Fred and McTominay all starting together gives me PTSD.

Annoying we've been given another Thursday/Sunday on a week where we don't have Europa. At least Dalot should get an enforced rest from that suspension.

Dalot is suspended for Fulham, not Villa.

Why? Doesn't the suspension usually carry over to the League Cup?
Reds, yes. Cumulative yellows are competition specific now. Players were taking yellows to wipe them and get suspended for cup games, which undermined the system.

    Rotation is needed.
If I don't see a midfield of Zidane Igbal, Kobbie Mainoo and Tom Huddlestone then might as well give up
