Manchester City Football Club (nicknamed City, The Citizens, and The Sky Blues), are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. City were founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed as Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and finally Manchester City in 1894 - and the origins can be traced back to members of St. Mark's Church of England, West Gorton — who founded the football club that would become known as Manchester City, for largely humanitarian purposes. Two church wardens sought to curb local gang violence and alcoholism by instituting new activities for local men, whilst high unemployment plagued East Manchester, specifically Gorton. All men were welcome to join, regardless of religion.

The team's first recorded match occurred on 13 November 1880, and City gained their first honors by winning the Second Division in 1899 — with it came promotion to the highest level in English football, the First Division. In the seasons following the FA Cup triumph of 1904, the club was dogged by allegations of financial irregularities, culminating in the suspension of seventeen players in 1904, including captain Billy Meredith, who subsequently moved across town to Manchester United. Almost half a century later later, a City team inspired by a tactical system known as the Revie Plan reached consecutive FA Cup finals again, in 1955 and 1956; just as in the 1930s, they lost the first one, to Newcastle United, and won the second. The club continued to challenge for honors throughout the 1970s, finishing one point behind the league champions on two occasions and reaching the final of the 1974 League Cup.

Prior to the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the club had enjoyed moderate levels of success through their history — however, since the start of the current decade, City have been buoyed by the signings of Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Vincent Kompany — and have emerged as perpetual title contenders, winning the league 8 times in 12 years and repeatedly finishing in the Top 3. City play their homes games at the Etihad Stadium, and their biggest rivals are neighbors and opponents for the game, Manchester United.

God knows with this one. They are playing us at a good time and we are playing them at a good time.

Go for it and play wingers not full backs out wide.

    Hojlund
    Mount Amad
    Garnacho Bruno Ugarte Antony
    Martinez De Ligt Mazraoui
    Onana

Shit v Shitter. I think the former will win, but they are dodgy enough to give us some hope.

We'll need to be much better than we were tonight if we are to get anything from this, no doubt Anthony Taylor will be the main talking point afterwards no matter what happens.

Keep thinking it’s time for bed, but it’s only 8 o clock.

That about sums up my post match thoughts

    Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Martinez
    Amad - Ugarte - Mainoo - Maz
    Mount - Bruno
    Hojlund

    Onana

    Yoro De Ligt Martinez

    Amad Ugarte Casemiro Garnacho

    Mainoo Fernandes

    Hojlund

This is what I’d like to see.

Amad won't be starting after 90+ today will he
Would be madeness to leave him out. He is young and had plenty of rests the last two years. I definitely expect him to start the Manchester Derby as he is our best offensive player currently.

The last two years is irrelevant, it's about his current load.

Yeah but if the load is the problem then it would still be madness to play our best player 90min against Victoria Pilsen just to then rest him in the Manchester Derby.

I assume he will play sunday and then have his rest in carabao cup.

    Agree yes.

They are a mess for the first time in the Pep era, and they could not have asked for a better opponent to work out the kinks against.

One has to imagine that Haaland will be rediscovering his form in this.

    Onana

    Yoro
    De Ligt
    Mazraoui

    Amad
    Mainoo
    Ugarte
    Dalot

    Bruno
    Hojlund
    Garnacho

We are horrible away from home and City, despite bad form, is still going to be favourites against almost every team in the world. Would be surprised with a positive result, would easily take a draw right now. Guessing we get:

    Onana
    Mazraoui De Ligt Martinez
    Amad Ugarte Bruno Dalot
    Mount Garnacho
    Hojlund

    Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Martinez
    Amad - Ugarte - Mainoo - Dalot
    Mount - Bruno
    Hojlund

Think he'll either do this or play Garnacho, Mount and Hojlund like against Arsenal.

Really bad feeling about this one.

Think we will play really well and lose three nil because we don't take our chances, concede softly and capitulate.

Bite your hand off for a win.

    Neh I wouldn’t! I want more!

    Onana
    Yoro Deligt Martinez
    Amad Ugarte Bruno Maz
    Mainoo Garnacho
    Hojlund

Let Garnacho play bit wider and Maz tuck bit inside when Bruno moves forward. In this way we can still play 3 at the back but can also let Garnacho play slightly more in his preferred position.

It’ll be interesting to see if we set up similarly to the Arsenal game where we controlled parts of the first half (more so than the second anyway) with some decent possession, work rate and intent. Lots of teams have gone there and parked the bus / rolled over, much like we would have done under ETH. But Amorim had us playing with confidence which made a change for a big away game.

Personally I don’t see us playing like we did in the cup final and nicking a win. Rock up like that and Shitty will score 2 or 3, with that feckin yeti causing chaos in front of Onana. Far better IMO to try forcing our own play style from the first minute. Show them we’ve come to win, not feck about. If our forwards can be clinical for once then there’s a chance we’ll score 2 or 3 ourselves.

    It’s a big IF though.

Bottom line: let Shitty play their game and it’s 80:20 we lose; impose ourselves and take our chances then it’s 60:40 in our favour.

FTR I still think Shitty will have lots of the ball for periods either way.
