I hope Martinez will put in a hard tackle on Haaland in the first few minutes, just to let him know that he is there. Erling hasn't really been welcomed into England yet.

Man is already putting in a ball playpen made of matchballs in his home.

Martinez had a pretty good game against Haaland when he was playing for Ajax. The defenders need to get into intercept position to keep Haaland from getting to finishes. After that also worry about the entire City team. This is going to be a properly solid test for Ten Hag ball

Oddly confident for this. No idea why. We're due to hammer them. Let this be the time.

What sort of injury stops you playing this long? it has to be pretty serious but they aren't letting that on.

    It just seems never ending.

Has he played a minute this season? I really only remember him playing in the pre-season tour.

ETH needs to play Oleball. It was reasonable successful against Pep during the Ole era.

Lineup is obvious is Rashy is fit:
    De Gea
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Malacia
    McTominay
    Eriksen - Fernandes
    Antony - Rashford - Sancho

We'll probably lose but hope not.

I’m not confident, I think we’ll be edged out. If we are another decent performance though I won’t mind.

Goes without saying that this is a big test for EtH. Both coaching and tactics. Haaling is likely to score so to get anything out of the game, we are also going to have to score. Creating chances while being defensively tight.
Maybe playing City straight after the international break might be a factor.

Ffs, Rashford and Martial both very doubtful for this. Not optimistic here if Elanga or Ronaldo have to start up top. Really need Rashford or Martial back asap.

Really need Rashford back for this…. If not play Bruno as a false 9. Don’t want Ronaldo anywhere near the starting XI

So it's effectively Ronaldo vs Elanga? I guess he could also bring in Casemiro or Fred and haveBruno as a false 9, or even Sancho/Antony as a false 9 with Bruno wide.

Not really sure what the best approach would be so trusting ETH to do the right thing.

The pace wouldn't be in the team at all if it was Bruno false 9 with another mid in. I'm guessing it'll be Elanga.

Getting excited about this game now. Will be a very tactical battle against 2 managers that know each other well. I think the small details could decide this game. I’m confident we can get a win though… could be a massive boost if we win here.

If Martial and Rashford are both unavailable I’d start Elanga ahead of Ronaldo. I’d have considered starting him for this game anyway, but with the absences, I’d look to play him for sure.

We need Rashford for this…it’s his type of game full stop. Elanga up top before Ronaldo if Rashford is injured. His pace will at least give those fukers something to worry about. Then I would play McT, Fred and Eriksen. Energy is the key.

Rashford usually plays even when not 100%, so I'm expecting:

    De Gea

    Dalot
    Varane
    Martinez
    Malacia

    Casemiro
    McTominay
    Eriksen

    Antony
    Rashford
    Bruno

I was cautiously optimistic about this game until I found out we're probably going to rely on a geriatric to lead the line. Now I just hope the performance isn't embarrassing.

I’m sure he withdrew due to suspension.
Ok good then, he does like a yellow card. If he plays against City, and I hope he does on current form, he will definitely pick up another yellow which will bring him his first suspension of the season. Shame when he is playing well but he does play on the edge.

Big blow to have Rashford out, we've seen how effective he can be in the sbig games. And then Martial still missing too, not ideal. All it be confirmed sure. But the signs aren't great. Even if they joined training before Sunday, are they really going to be fit to start? Unlikely.

I hope he drops the 2-man midfield system and plays a 4-3-2-1. Eriksen-DM combo is too lightweight to battle City's midfield dominance.
    -------------------- De Gea
    Dalot -- Varane -- Martinez -- Malacia
    ------- Fred -- Casemiro -- Eriksen
    ---------- Bruno ---------- Sancho
    ------------------ Fittest ST

Bruno to move towards central areas while Sancho floats left/right/center.

Sucks big time that Rashford is out. As much as people moan about him, he's a big game player and he's probably our only player, along with maybe Elanga, who gives us that frightening pace to get in behind teams.

Martial is a massive loss, too.

If the two are out, I'd go with:

    Bruno
    Sancho Fred Antony
    Eriksen McTominay
    Malacia Martinez Varane Dalot
    De Gea

    OR

    Sancho
    Elanga Bruno Antony
    Eriksen McTominay
    Malacia Martinez Varane Dalot
    De Gea

    Antony-Ronaldo-Sancho

I’m bracing myself for a static afternoon. I think I’d rather Antony and Sancho played more centrally with a false 9 behind them or something. Pace on the break is surely key to us getting anything out of this.

Injuries really are the worst part of football. Going into this game (of all games) with our 2 best counter attacking players injured, so frustrating.

I fancied us with a fully fit squad but not any more.

Ronaldo starting against these will be a disaster. I think it will be a draw, possibly a win if we have a more mobile front line, but Ronaldo just standing there waiting for the ball to land at his feet - feck it. I do hope that Martinez lets Haaland know he's playing straight away, just boot the fecker into the air.
