    Oh - sorry! :)
No, my wording there was ambiguous at best:wenger:

The games I've watched they've only really played to him when he's the best option. There's been plenty of times they could gave tried a forced ball to him but instead go elsewhere.

If what you claim is happening I don't think it's that dramatic. They're simply too well drilled for that and have several other goal scorers who take up positions in those edge of box spaces.
This is how I’ve seen it as well. If anything Pep has stated they have to be better at both aspects for it to get to the level they want to be.

Do we go toe to toe

    Eriksen
    Casemiro
    Sancho
    Antony
    Bruno
    Martial

Or do we sit deeper, pack midfield and look for the breaks

    Casemiro
    Mctominay
    Rashford
    Antony
    Eriksen/Bruno
    Martial

    ????

I'm going with option B for the moment. More chance of a draw that way.
Considering both Eriksen and Bruno both started against Arsenal and Liverpool, I'm going to guess option A. We've ceded possession in these games but the overall principle of playing with his 'best' players in bigger games has still been there.

Yeah I won't quibble with that. I do think Rashford over Sancho makes sense though. I think Walker has lost a yard of pace and Rashford can get in behind again.

They were set up entirely differently last season, now the priority for City is to get the ball to Haaland at all opportunities (and you can understand why), but it is very reminiscent of when we had Ruud up top, who was a far better goalscorer in his time, but we were ever so much more of a one player team when Ruud played, and the same is with City.

If Haaland doesn't score for them, who else is there to really worry about from a purely realistic goalscoring point of view??

Sure others could chip in here and there, but for the moment, it does seem as if they have gone all in with Haaland, and the rest of the players are now secondary to him.

I'm sorry, but I just can't believe I am reading this. It is highly likely Haaland will continue breaking records. He is on target for 55 in the league. When did RvN get those sort of numbers. Dixie Deans record may go. There was a Luton game in the 1930s where a striker got 10 goals, that may go (when do City play Bournemouth for the reverse game of the 4:0 one recently?).

The thing is, what happens this season to him should have an asterix by it anyway because quite uniquely he will get a month long winter break - most other top players will be at the World Cup in November, but he won't.

It is such a shame United bought Ronaldo last year when they heard City might go in for him and/or Tottenham wouldn't sell Kane to them, because with Haaland at City, it has messed up the season before its really even got going. We are all really playing for second, third or forth and deep down everyone knows it.

I sure hope you are wrong. He’s not God, he is getting good service right now and City hasn’t played the top teams yet.

Borussia didn’t do all that well the last few seasons, they are a good side though. Haaland without an in form team around him is not as much of a problem.

The season is barely underway, City has to prove it now in the bigger games.

It’ll have been 28 days between premier league games by the time this comes round. Hopefully we have used the time wisely on the training ground in preparation for this game.

Should be a cracking game, bring it on.

    Wow........overhype much??!!

Ruud has proven himself at the very highest levels, both domestically at internationally, something, and he has the medals to back it up, both of which Haaland does not, hence why Ruud is by far the better striker.
Ruud has more Premier League goals, & more Champions League goals, so let's just stop with the overhyping of Haaland, "he is on target for this or that" etc, until he has actually done so, then it is all just fantasy talk, not reality talk.

He's on course to 55? Did you go into the future and saw he got those numbers cause until he does it its all prediction and nothing substantial.

The fact we won’t have played a league game in what a month? Worries me. Can’t see us getting anything here

Hes not going to shag you

Jesus if God came down to me and offered a 1-0 loss for us, id take it.
I know that defeatist but i feel a battering here could effect our slowly building moral and confidence.

    What is this post??

We have the best attacking midfielder in the league in Eriksson, and you want to accept a defeat, what utter trollope.

We shouldn't be looking at anything other than a victory.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I think we'll lose. The more important thing is how we lose. In the last two years or so we've been absolutely dicked by City, I'm hopeful that that won't be the case this time though I still think they'll win.

This is why I was gutted about the palace and Leeds games being off. We could of came in here with 6 wins in a row in the league and even a lose here would still give us a good start to the season.

I expect us to lose like most as we are not near there level yet but lose fighting is what I want to see. I expect 3-1 with a spirited effort but their quality will be too much

    Wow,

There really is no need for such defeatist attitudes, what exactly about our wins this season is there to suggest in any way that we shall get beat by them??

We are in a fantastic run of wins currently, so why is there such posts as the ones saying that we shall lose, or we should be happy with a small defeat??

    What utter piffle!

Our attacking midfielder is Bruno Fernandes.

No, what is THIS post? First of all, it's Eriksen. Not Eriksson. Really not that hard.

Secondly - you ever heard of Kevin de Bruyne?

I hope Martinez will put in a hard tackle on Haaland in the first few minutes, just to let him know that he is there. Erling hasn't really been welcomed into England yet.

Is there any early news on Rashford/Martial's injury status? We need Rashford back, and Martial would be a bonus too given how good he was off the bench vs Liverpool.

And when did haaland get 55 goals ? Even in the weaker German league where he was the main guy he couldn't and didnt break any records there, also you think grealish, KDB. silva etc are just going to pass up shooting chances, so there's that and the fact he could suffer a nasty injury and be out for months, so maybe claim the hell down with the mystic meg act.

Also, just because he did it once against them does not mean he will repeat the feat as, shearer, defoe, Berbatov, aguero all scored 5 against a team and never repeat the feat in the return game the same season.

That’s an awful attempt now try spelling the Norwegian CB for your ladies team without googling.

Expecting a win the club have pulled decent results out the bag before. Like to see the team be more expansive in possession but also sting City on the counter when given the opportunity.

It may have been answered already, but why do we get the early kickoff for that one for a Sunday? I thought Sky Sports would be slotting that match for the 4:30 PM UK time (11:30 AM Eastern timeslot) for better TV ratings on primetime.

Not to much worried about this one. We’ve beaten Liverpool and arsenal already. Arsenal who are flying this season. We have one of the best passers in the league in eriksen, Antony will stay wide as city like to push there full backs high up and eriksen will just ping balls out wide all day where they’ll be a lot of space and that will cause them problems. If we’re compact and not to open then we can definitely get a result here. Don’t give haaland space to run in behind.

Less time for the fans to get drunk in the pubs before the game I’d imagine!

If we were to lose, I'd rather we lose 4-0 making an attempt to win than a 1-0 making none.

Haaland is on fire, but to just make the assumption he’s going to get 55 league goals is just ridiculous. Especially after only 7 games. You can’t just extrapolate form from 7 games over 38 games.

On that basis, Salah got 11 goals in his first 10 games last season. He was on course to get 42 goals at that point. He ended up with 23 goals.

Let’s wait till the end of the season rather than get hyperbole.

If we play similar to how we did against Liverpool and Arsenal we can certainly get something.

Sit deeper. Sancho, Rashford, Antony as a front 3 (or martial if fit). Bruno and Eriksen plahing plenty of through balls from deep in behind and down the channels. We will get chances. It’s just whether we take them.

If we sit any deeper we’ll be in the second tier

Sorry I meant deeper than how we would normally play against other teams. But yes playing for the counter is going to be the key. I think it would be suicidal for us to press high up.

We can still trigger presses but only in certain scenarios. For instance when they enter our half of the pitch, that’s where we should press to not give them time to build.

I actually think Antony will be really key for us in this game mainly because he probably has the best off the ball work rate out of all our forwards. He will be key in tracking back and pressuring Cancelo.

Despite them having Haaland, I’m more confident going to Etihad than I’ve been in a long time. ETH clearly knows what he’s doing and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a draw or win here.
