4-3-2-1
De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
Herrera - Blind - Fellaini
Rooney - di Maria
Falcao
It really end up something like this.I'm trying to find a flaw in this lineup and failing.
I would say that if Herrera is not yet 100% then we'll stick with the same starting eleven from the last game.
I think United's best chance will lie in getting at City's backline. Mangala hasn't found his feet in this league yet and continues to look dodgy. City have no top level left backs either and coincidentally they play on the same side. This might be the game to play a more attacking style, especially as City don't have a lot of players firing on all cylinders for them this season, except maybe Aguero and Silva.
My team would be:
De Gea
Rafael right back
Smalling r centre back
Rojo l centre back
Shaw left back
Jones defensive mid
Fellaini similar role to Chelsea -> bring defensive work but play as more of a CM to combat Fernandinho.
Rooney playing out left but rotating in towards the striker position as Van Persie drops (runs in between Kompany/Zabaleta will take Kompany's focus away from the other side of the pitch)
Di Maria playing out right and taking on the left back. He can also put in lethal balls with his left boot and destroyed Germany on the right wing.
Falcao right striker, playing the poacher's role.
Van Persie left striker, dropping back to receive the ball into feet and allowing Rooney to take the attention of Kompany and Zabaleta in order to give himself more space.
Your attack is better than their defence but your midfield is worse than theirs. I think this would be the best way to play.
I wouldn't mind this line up. It actually looks really good but, unfortunately, I don't think we will change last game's formation.4-3-2-1
De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
Herrera - Blind - Fellaini
Rooney - di Maria
Falcao
Now watch City either continue their slump or spectacularly break out of it.
No Blind?
Madness
But.. I get were you're coming from with this - allthough I think we'd see a 48% - 4% - 48% "area-possession-stat"
With the 4% midfield coming from kick-offs...
I thought Jones had shin splints fitted, so is he even available? You don't see Blind there because I didn't put him there. I thought he was careless with the ball against Chelski.. gave them a few 3v3s which they didn't capitalise on. Jones has played in many a game like this and would be my trusted option. It's not as mad as you'd think.

Agree, he's started every PL game this season, hasn't he? Not that I'm overly worried about it with Falcao and Rooney missing games thru injuries and suspension.I've come to realize RvP will always play as long as he has two legs with LvG at helm.
Might not be what you want, but probably true. Not a chance RVP is getting dropped after that goal last week, and that's before you even consider the fact that Rooney and Falcao are supposedly having fitness doubts. Also doubt that our next-choice LCB which is Blackett will be selected ahead of Rojo, given the nature of the game.
As for Rojo, LvG has said on several occasions that he doesn't like playing a right footed player at LCB which essentially means Rojo is nailed on at the moment too given the lack of alternatives.
City will raise their game? They're champions who are mostly good or very good with the odd blip.I'm actually expecting a result.. why am I doing this to myself? City will inevitably raise their game though and score a goal or two.

The raised game argument is really only relevant when discussing a lesser team giving a bigger side a good game. Not really something that fits City's current situation.
No RvP. Our trainer coach never drops himI'm trying to find a flaw in this lineup and failing.

DeGeaMark Toure with Fellaini.

Rooney
Falcao vanPersie
No way the gap is that huge! Last year was an exception man. We are winning this. I can feel it!Can anyone remember wanting to win a (Prem) game more, but with so little hope - reminds me of the last ECL final v Barca
How much will it mean if we do win tho
Possibly. It just grates on me when fans qualify opposition performances in such a way. It's like you're pre-empting a potential defeat by saying it's only down to an opponent trying harder coz they're playing us!Presumably he means raise their game compared to the shambles they've been since half-time in the CSKA match.
We'll play the same team that started against Chelsea - Only Rooney would come in for Mata. For people dropping out RVP, have a word with yourself, I know Falcao is the new toy but he hasn't really set the world on fire since he signed for us, he missed the last game through injury and thus is lacking in match fitness and momentum, he's not going to start against Man City.
