Has anyone posted " Must win game" yet?

Every PL game bar City, Liverpool and Arsenal is a must win game now except perhaps. Because we were so shit the first half of the season we need to run the table of the other 11 of our remaining 14 PL matches. If somehow we were to win 2 of these 3 opponents and run the table otherwise we might be able to breathe easily against our final two opponents, Palace and Brighton.

This is a real banana skin of a game if we’re not 100% focused. They’ve caused a lot of teams problems here this season and cannot be taken lightly. We’ve seen how mentally fragile this squad can be so it’s vital we keep building on this little bit of momentum we’ve finally started to gain if we’ve got any hopes of getting into those one of those CL spots.

Amrabat or Lindy at LB. They know how to defend.

Yeah, probably Amrabat for me. Smaller pitch at Luton so less space for him to get burnt for pace and he's better on the ball and is comfortable stepping inside when we have the ball and joining Casemiro in midfield.

Luton are my PL team of the season thus far. Watching them bumble their way through the playoffs to get promoted had me expecting them to be contesting Derby for the worst points total the league has ever seen, and they started off looking like good money for that. Since then, they’ve metamorphosed into a competitive PL side, playing football on the deck and giving teams with squads 10* more expensive than theirs absolute fits to claim anything from them.

Miraculous and one thing is for sure; they will run and run all game vs. us in a stadium they’ve made a real fortress relative to their standing. Will be interesting to see how we perform there as teams above us have had real tough games there.

I feel like this sort of opposition and this sort of pitch would suit Amad.

I feel like this sort of opposition and this sort of pitch would suit Amad.

Well he has scored twice against them, but not at Kenilworth Road. Nor has he won there, having drawn in the league and lost in the playoffs.

I doubt that experience will see him break up what has been a winning front three of late.

Think we can win this... not quite sure how, because we do not control games really and Luton don't tend to play teams off the park.. but they have found their feet and are now a v competitive premiership team. If we can cut through the fervour and hype, get an early goal (or two) and settle our nerves, we may be ok. Maguire is going to have his hands full against their centre-forward, who is very, very physical, effective and fast. SMT to play an important role again. Rashford could turn up and win this.. but if his head isn't right, Luton will tear into him.

Garnacho and Rasmus will enjoy the battle. Bruno to make the difference.

This will be a good game for us. Tough, demanding, but good.

Really what to see how old fashioned wingers work with Hojlund

Hopefully Casemiro passing is a little bit sharper

    -----------------------------Onana------------------------
    Dalot------------Varane-------Maguire-----------Shaw
    -----------------Casemiro--------Mainoo-------------
    Garnacho---------------Bruno-------------------Antony
    ----------------------------Hojlund-----------------------

Also with the pitch smaller we could need the width, Luton played much better football the last few weeks should have won versus Wednesday.

Why are we playing on Sunday again ? It fecks up my weekend schedule

Agreed, late Sunday is the worst slot in my opinion. Feels like we’ve had a lot of Sundays on the bounce.

Happy with it, gives our players plenty of recovery time. Especially with Shaw coming off during the weekend.

Hopefully Shaw is fit otherwise I am worried about Ogbene causing problems down our left - he's one of the fastest players I've seen in years.

The suggestion of Antony playing at LB seems crazy - he can press well but dives into slide tackles with strange technique and isn't the quickest. With that said, the thought of Lindelof or Amrabat playing there doesn't fill me with much more confidence. Could do with AWB back if Shaw isn't fit and play him LB like in the Spurs game.

If we're at it then we should win but if we take the foot of the gas they will put us under pressure, to say the least.

They've been scoring a lot recently, which is a problem for us as our defence is non-existent and relying on opposition not taking their chances, of which there have been many.

Their loss to Sheff Utd last week should knock a bit of confidence out of them. Hopefully that should be enough to get us the 1-0 win.

You do realise that the recovery time from Sunday to Sunday is exactly the same as from Saturday to Saturday?

We have to win this if we want to be in the race for UCL. And while not playing as good, we have been able to get results in recent week, so let’s hope this winning streak continues.

We cant take this lightly as Luton have proven to be a hard team to beat at their place, City had to come back from 1 nil down miway through the 2nd half to win 2-1 while Liverpool would have lost if not for a Kloppage tine equalizer and Arsenal won 3-4 but didnt score their winner until the 97th minute.

Still worry about being without Martinez but play as we did against Villa and we should win this by three goals. Of course, there's the "if"when it comes to us

We need Shaw to be fit now we don't have Lisandro available. Remember, Luton ran the Gooners close, so it will be no stroll in the park. We need to go at them from minute one and get a couple before half time.

Last United visit to Kenilworth Road was September 2020 in front of a empty stadium for a league cup tie.

    Classic starting 11 that night.

    Henderson
    Wan Bissaka Bailly Maguire Williams
    Matic Fred
    Lingard De Beek Mata
    Ighalo

Mata penalty before half time and took subs Greenwood, Rashford to secure the win with goals on 88 and 92 minutes.

We should win this, no need to get in trouble like Arsenal and Pool.

I trust our attack to wreak havoc.

United win 2-1, Højlund scores 2 goals.

    ..................Onana..........
    Dalot.Varane.Maguire.Lindelöf
    .......Casemiro...Mainoo..........
    ....................Bruno................
    Garnacho.......................Rashford
    ....................Højlund.................

But if we play on a Sunday and then on a Saturday the week after. It gives less days to recover. As long as the team gets a week between games, I'm happy.

Agree with most of this. Interestingly though, they haven't actually relied on their home form as heavily as expected.

At Home they have 11 points (19th best home form) and Away from home they have 8 points (16th best).

Probably because we've played Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea Arse and City at home but only played Chelsea away so far.

Ahhh makes sense. Actually makes what you're doing more impressive even without the tough run of fixtures. Much better to spread the points IMO. If you do turn home in to a fortress then WOW. Fair play to Luton. I think 99% of football fans are loving watching your journey.

Banana skin game for sure. Kenilworth Road has the 19th largest pitch in the PL (Craven cottage being the smallest). Having watched some of their highlights, incl. that Brighton game - the home team seems to use the small pitch well with their pressing and physicality.

Just off the eye test it seems they play with a bit more intensity than Fulham, so we just have to be on it from minute 1 to 90, not give them much of the ball, press their defenders high (they're a bit error prone) and be clinical with our set pieces especially (seem to concede a lot off corners and FKs, incl. against us at OT). Would avoid just taking shots outside the box and focus on getting balls into the area as well, Kaminski is a good GK.

Maybe we could do with an extra man in midfield this game to counter their usual 3-4-3: Start with Case, Mainoo, Mount (if fit)/Mctominay and Bruno in a midfield diamond to bully them a little bit and make it tough for them to play through us? We can always push Bruno to the right or change a midfielder for Rashford later on if it looks like we're comfortable. Could do without Rashford for this game personally - it just seems like whoever dominates midfield wins this game, if we put a couple past them early like Chelsea/Sheffield did, we can just manage the game and finish it off comfortably.

They're not a super tough team, just a tricky one and have spent enough time in the PL now for us to analyse how they set up and play. Our guys need to be up for a bit of a physical contest this Sunday, which shouldn't be an issue for them given we don't play in Europe.

Hoping Villa at Fulham and Spurs home to Wolves drop points over the weekend, both tricky fixtures.

Does anyone else think he might play Scott and Harry for their physicality?

Would this be playing into their game plan or just being pragmatic

I remember playing old football games in the 80s and Luton were in the first division. Hi
My abiding memory of playing Luton was wanting to listen to the match on the radio in March 1986 as as a kid and my parents instead taking me to Blackpool for the day. While my mum was in the arcade playing bingo, me and my dad were outside Rumbelows watching teletext through the window along with about 20 others.

If Shaw isn't fit, I'd put we Dalot to the left. We can't have Lindelöf or another complete misfit there. At least Dalot knows how to play the position.

    It might have to be:

    Onana
    Lindelöf - Maguire - Varane - Dalot
    Casemiro - Mainoo
    Garnacho - Bruno - Rashford
    Højlund
