Thiago with a hamstring in training? That’s one more hit for Klopp is confirmed.

    Calm down, guys.

Liverpool are not a shit team. They may very well beat us. Especially if they decide to go full A game from the get go instead of conserving their players like they usually do these days.

We really need to set our expectations right, here. This game is not a given.

This is the one. This is the one.

I know in the post Sir Alex era we've been in some cup finals and stuff, and we've had a fair few matches of significance even outside of those, but none of them have carried the weight that this match does for me. The chance to go six points clear of the league leaders, Liverpool no less, this is something else. I haven't been as nervous, and simultaneously excited, for any match in this era, as I am for this one.

United are the league leaders. If it lasts, will take getting used to.

Well said sir. Somebody had to say it!
Liverpool are favourites to win this without a doubt.

Hate to say it but we are in a false position right now relative to our actual ability.
A draw next Sunday would be more than a good result, a win exceptional.

Damn he's so injury prone! This just confirms it, if Bayern want to sell a player you can almost guarantee there's a good reason for it

Draw would be a great result, but, rather like the City game, I think they'll have too much for us.

They didn't want to sell Thiago though.

I don't see any reliable source confirming his injury either by the way. Where did you get this from? :)

Liverpool on paper is favourite especially this is Anfield and all bookies basically put them, as favourite which speak itself they favourite.

But like always every year, this is like the British El Classico, no such a thing call ‘’calm down’’ when it’s about this game, every year always the same this is the top of the game in the league above others that we really really want to win because of the rivalry and the history between the two clubs.

The expectation was always been to win the Liverpool game every season even before the season started. I don’t like draw against Liverpool and I hate to lose to Liverpool, when it’s about against Liverpool I want to win even if it means we end being outplayed but if we can win then I take it.

Should be a really interesting match and I'm looking forward to it. A draw would be a superb result for you guys.

I'm really worried if we're giving them away too many set pieces.

That might be the only way we lose.

Let's not forget that Liverpool is a team of thugs - Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Milner, TAA etc, and also a team of divers - Mane, Salah, Firmino etc.

Let's not get kicked all over the ground and stand up to them and we hope the referee is impartial and good in his decisions.

Just from the poster I replied to, I can't see anything online either tbf.

    Do you have a source?
Think it originates from the Tweet below, which is a fake account. Nothing from the usual suspects, so I'm guessing it's not true.

Can we bring mad Louis back on a 1 game contract?

As someone who's been a United fan since 1994, our best Anfield performance was under Van Gaal rather than Fergie. Juanfield.

i was too young to properly judge the 96/97 game where Pallister scored 2 and we won 3-1, mind.

Yes, we definitely want to win. I want to win. Doesn't mean that we will win. Lots of people here describing Liverpool as a shit team. And this will be an easy win. Etc etc. It's not. And we would do well to respect the EPL champions and former CL champions.

I understand. I would love for a win. But I am realistic about our prospects. Liverpool are still a very good team and we would do well to respect that.

I'm afraid the referee bit is not going to happen. Klopp has already successfully wind up the world against us regarding penalties. The fact that the whole world is talking about it is proof of that. Expect us to get denied penalties.

Did they have 2 midfielders as CB over that period?
This is not the same side and the players would be wise not to go down this over respect route for a side who currently doesnt deserve it.

You mean they played with 2 midfielders as CB and still were top of the league until mid week and could retake that top spot if they beat us this weekend?

They're missing VVD, yes. But that doesn't mean they're shit.

99% of people on here are realistic, I have seen one or two posters that think Liverpool are dire and mentally weak.

I just want to ensure we're all grounded in our expectations. If anything were to go wrong, I wouldn't want there to be a meltdown

The expectation is a win because it's Liverpool. Draw is not good and lose is like hateful, there is always meltdown if we don't win against Liverpool.

I dunno, after Clattenburg went and called out Klopp on trying to manipulate any decisions , I think we could be even slightly more probable to get a pen.

Think many refs just dont like Klopp and his antics on the sideline I'd imagine. I for sure wouldnt.

I still feel like both managers would be content with a draw if it came down to it (despite this opening the door for City).

It's a game I feel is more important not to lose than it is to win, even if only slightly. A defeat here for either side will take a significant amount of character to recover from, although both sides have a favourable fixture in the following game to 'put it right'.

I expect the approach of both managers will reflect this. Klopp will get plaudits for trying to win the game more I imagine, but I doubt he'll be making big changes to go more offensive if it's 0-0 with 15 minutes to go as well, probably much like Ole. However, I do think we'll have a couple of better attacking options off the bench than they will.

I also expect us to have to counter attack, but feel like with the expected line-up from most of us, it will be difficult for us to do that with Rashford as the only outlet for a lot of the game. Still got a sneaking suspicion Ole will start James over Cavani, with the hope of bringing on Cavani & Greenwood if we need a goal.

The team who are 6 points off 6th, yes. Point off 4th if all sides wins their games in hand.
Liverpool have been in a false position for a while now. Now theyre caught up when they havent played 1 or 2 more games than the rest of us.
Jesus, even discussing this shows they arent the same side. They had the title won by this stage last season.

I want to win & we should give it a go, but a draw isn't a bad result & suits us a lot more than them.

We have to get something out of this game as I feel a win for that lot could be a spring board for the rest of the season for them

Not for me. Liverpool is to me the team that we must beat every season, this is not just top of the league match battle, it's a rivalry match. I can take draw vs City since I don't have strong emotion towards City but not Liverpool.

I think this is slightly overstated, but I agree somewhat. They're well off last season and the injuries do have to be taken into account. However, a large part of it for me is that they are still hard to beat. So many games this season they have ended up drawing, whereas seasons gone by they'd have found a way to win.

A good comparison is probably Sheffield United really, although obviously the other end to the extreme. So many wins last season for Liverpool by one goal, so many losses for Sheffield United by a similar margin. They're just not finding that same level and it's costing a lot of results. The biggest question is if it will continue, get better or even get worse?

I'll be interested to see how much the injuries really are to blame when they have a CB or two back for long stints.

We're very close to Liverpool at the moment. The gap is not as massive as it was over the last few seasons. They likely have a better first eleven but we have a better squad.

Small margins and luck will decide the match. Keep their fullbacks quiet and I'm pretty confident we'll get something out of this game.

Should be a really interesting match and I'm looking forward to it. A draw would be a superb result for you guys.

Superb is bit much for a draw. We are not Sheffield. Given their current situation we have a huge opportunity. A win, now that would be superb.

Around this many games in last season.

I mean it's semantics I suppose, but yeah a draw would be a great result considering their home record/ that this is the hardest league fixture.

You have been here for 10 years right?!
Point taken. You're right. I should probably avoid the caf in that case.

Well, we need to differentiate between the standards we expect vs the reality of the situation. I desperately want to beat them, but I am realistic about our chances.

Sadly, Clattenburg is not the referee for this match.

Well, if you're gonna dismiss Liverpool's points haul, then we can also dismiss United's points haul as well. Not to mention they did it with 2 central midfielders in defence.

We underestimate Liverpool at our own peril. They are not a shit team. And I would not presume we are title contenders until we've played more games. We're not even halfway yet. It is encouraging that we've closed the gap somewhat, though.

I get the feeling this is about bravery and trusting our confidence. Will we attack them with belief when the opportunity arises? If so, we have a chance of winning. We probably won't get many opportunities, so being clinical is important.

I don't think our defence will keep them out if we sit deep and hope to hit them on the counter.

This game will be tense and decided by fine margins. It really could go either way. Just saying that is a tribute to how far we've progressed.
