Currently, which is the better team?

    Liverpool or Man Utd?

I'm not sure there's much in it, though if you look at the last couple of months, undeniably Liverpool have the better form.

So, is the convincing win against a somewhat poor Spurs the proof that now Man Utd are back to their best or is it just a one off good result?

A narrow win against Swansea away, who let's face it are a good team, beating Arsenal for example at the Liberty, does that mean, Liverpool are not all that?

    Who knows?

At Anfield Liverpool will be a tough opponent and despite the faux optimism generated by a less than brilliant Liverpool at Swansea and by Man Utd's win against Spurs, I'd say that next weeks game is going to be a lot more difficult than some of you above think.

We play best when we have 7 players on the pitch who can defend with at least 4 of the 7 being able to contribute to attack.
The games where we have lost or drawn this season we have not had that balance.
Some games we don't have the 7 players who can defend and other times we've had 7 players who can defend, but not enough of them contribute to the attack.

Not that it makes much difference but I'm sure MOTD2 had us ahead of everybody, City included, in the programme last night.

Could very well be true, I just checked Whoscored, which might not be up to date. Have to admit I was surprised not to see us listed top, given how often we seem to have upwards of 70%.

Most important game in these last 9 games. We must win this or at least get a draw, else we risk ending up chasing Liverpool for that 4th spot.

All season I've been really pessimistic about or chances of getting top 4 and I had written off us having any chance of winning at Anfield. After this weekends round of games I have to say I feel like they are their for the taking.

The formation we played against spurs seems really solid and effective for the players we have. We finally seem to playing Herrera in midfield and he actually seems disciplined about defending properly now. We no longer stick with Falcao and RVP up front no matter what and are now using our best striker in his correct position and he's playing extremely well. And Fellaini just had his best game for us ever.

Watching Liverpool tonight and I have to say they are no where near as good as I thought they would be. Playing with a winger as a wingback and having Can beside them was a recipe for disaster tonight and they were very fortunate that they didn't concede from any swansea attacks from that side in the first half. Sakho who apparently is meant to be some amazing composed defender turns to shit every time I've seen him pressed.

I think Blind, Young and Fellaini should be able to cause plenty of problems on the left side against Markovic/Lallana/Sterling and Can. On the other side I think we should drop Mata even though he is playing well because Di Maria seems much more suited for pressing down Sakho and would cause him a lot of trouble.

Only issue really is Coutinho and Sterling...hopefully we can contain them and they have quiet games.

As much as we played well yesterday, Spurs played poorly. They weren't drilled well in defence and lost the ball very cheaply, I feel Liverpool won't make the same mistakes and offer a lot more going forward. I think Liverpool will nick it either 1-0 or 2-1.

They played poorly because we played well. First half we didn't allow them to play whatsoever. 2nd half we stopped pressing so intensely and only then could they breathe. They were zero threat all game because we completely nullified them.

Agree, it was the tactic teams have used on us and we've struggled to deal with. Do similar against Liverpool and we'll 1) limit their chances and 2) create some of our own. If we do that and are not wasteful, we'll be able to hang. Sitting back and inviting their pressure is a disaster in the making.

Bit worried about their diving, Sturridge and Sterling were certainly looking for it against Swansea.

I hope Sterling plays wingback, because he is awful defensively. Can is too. The whole team is overrated in fact.

Damn!!! Pool win it by a freak lucky feckin goal... Wonder why we never get such stuff

After watching them against Swansea, i got more confident we can get a result on sunday. Play the same team/tactics like we did to Spurs and hit them on the counter.

Rooney looks to be in teriffic form and he is bound to have a good game at Anfield soon.

    We really can take them.
I think we will have to play Blind, Carrick and Herrera in midfield, cause Coutinho will have to be tracked and man-marked somehow.
Rooney, Fellaini and Di Maria in front of that.
    Is Shaw available?

given the performance and result i wouldn't have a problem if LVG picked the same 11, the tools we used against spurs could be just as effective against liverpool going forward.
the worry is, do we need a different set up defensively. Smalling marked Kane out of the game and this pretty much neutered spurs entire attack, however liverpool have more threats to worry about. I'd put Blind in the middle to cover coutinho with Carrick alongside i'd then play shaw at LB who i think has the speed to at least keep up with sterling, i'm not sure blind would (on the other hand blind is far more tactically aware and could out smart sterling i suppose). all this would mean dropping herrera unfortunately. the only other question is mata or adm, i'm torn on this one as i think mata deserves to start and adm could be a great threat late on with his pace but only if the games in the balance, if we're behind liverpool drop deeper and adm has less space to run into. i think i'd start adm to try and get ahead

these games are always impossible to call though and more than any other the cliche is true about form going out of the window.either team could dominate and still lose. i've seen nothing to suggest we shouldn't be confident though, we know that liverpool will go forward and actually give us a game so i expect to create chances, rooney and fella are in good form so i think we'll score. DDG could well be the difference again

play the same team same tactics as sunday..

the first time in two years we have put in a quality performance. Lets take it to liverpool and put them on the backfoot from the start

Tottenham and Liverpool couldn't be more different. What makes you think the same approach would work again?

The space Blind and Young left would be bread and butter to Sterling.

liverpool only play 3 at the back - rooney and fellaini will be up there.. sterling will have to track more than get forward.. we also have carrick who will play deep as well and can fill in

I'm not convinced. I think Liverpool will need a different tactic with its own considerations. I'd have Blind and Carrick holding, Herrera just in front and a break neck front 3 of Young, Rooney and Di Maria.

I think di maria is too selfish to be considered for liverpool.. liverpool have the pace to be good on the break themselves and he loses it too much.. I would prefer mata again..

I'd actually change the team that I initially selected. Instead would like to see:

Mignolet; Can, Skrtel, Sakho; Markovic, Henderson, Allen, Moreno; Lallana, Sterling, Coutinho.

If Gerrard comes in, I hope he plays where he did last night. Had a good performance there and it was after he came on that we started to really shut Swansea out.

Yeah, it's always the opposition didn't play well or we were lucky. We outplayed Spurs and didn't give them chance to do anything. You have to give credit where its due.

I have the same confidence I had before the Spurs game, we'll beat them, then everyone will say they were poor, and the real test will be againt Man City at home.

People trying to use the recent Spurs and Swansea games looking for a idea of how the Anfield game will go will probably be disappointed. Liverpool were away, traveling far to another country technically, often people drop points there let alone look ropey and the crowd was with Swansea as we heard early on, where as we against Spurs later heard Wayne Rooney did some big speech in the dressing room and got them all fired up for game after all the media drama before hand. Its no surprise to see him score so he could do his message for example.

United v Liverpool form goes out the window, doesn't matter how much you've spent, who's the champions or what players you have out, it will be tough regardless and can go either way on the day. The only things you can say is that they will be up for it, lazy against Swansea or not and it doesn't seem to matter weather they have Rafa, Dalglish or the *********** in charge, they will charge, press and hassle us all over the pitch. We have better players than them, much better but we're not fully bedded in the new players yet and we how many times do we do well at Anfield and batter them? Hardly ever, Old Trafford yes, but not Anfield, in fact it seems Liverpool come to ours and give us a thumping or at least a good game far more then we do. Most of the times from memory we smash and grab with an O'shea or something goal.

So many times under Fergie we've gone there and looked scared of the ball and being bullied off it, been penned in at times, just hope we keep the ball well like we do at least. We beat these and it will be amazing stuff. People can talk about wobbling Man Citys finances but we really don't want Liverpool being in the top 4 regularly again, I mean don't get me wrong it was exciting having us, Arsenal, Mourinhos Chelsea and Raffas Liverpool all battling in the CL and looking strong but if they settle in again they could do a 2005 and add to the count further, we don't want that, never hear the end of the 5 let alone 6 wins!!! Not to mention that we have to get back in the CL really, having PL games plus CL football on the side makes for good football when league games are not on, well once past the boring group stages anyway.

If we beat both Liverpool and City, we will be looking very good for top 4 and very strong. Chances of that happening though are very slim I have to admit

Rawkites have already won this game in their heads. They're going to batter us by all accounts. The one reservation they have is playing against mid table opposition who go to anfield and play long balls.

The hope is that Liverpool have peaked and are now on the way back down, and our game against Spurs was just the start of us showing our true ability, but that's wishful thinking really, I just have no idea what to expect.

But if Blind is not in the midfield again I will be a little more confident on the day.
