Could also be a long ball game for Fellaini as #10 in 4-2-3-1, like the Europa League final. I remember Pogba playing there in the corresponding game last season.

I'd play Lingard for this specific game as he provides faster, better and more reliable defensive work.

Away from home vs a Klopp team means we'll be defending alot and will have to win the game on the counter attack: Lingard and Martial provide the speed required to deliver such.

Agree about Darmian over Young for Left Back.

Yeah, but Mkhitaryan won't/can't play this game in the middle as #10, where is more vulnerable to pressing.

Well, I don't like Mikhi as a RW and he hasn't been good there but if we're talking about prediction then for sure Jose will play him IMO.

For me this is one of the few games that I'll like to see Rashford as a RW over Mikhi while Martial on left just to provide pace in dribbling up front in the counters, but we'll need to have a super sub in the bench if the game got complicated

But prediction wise it'll be Rashford - Lukaku - Mikhi attacking line up no doubt for me.

I also think it's the more probable, although I see Martial having a chance and even Lingard, just not Mata. Could also depend on the minutes and the rest they get from internationals, besides a very particular game plan from Mourinho who could well make him drop Mkhitaryan (for instance, if we go 3-5-2, or relying on Fellaini's).

First big test finally. I'm looking forward.

And we can't use international break as an excuse IMO. Liverpool has more American & African players in their team which likely to have more fatigue travelling than us (Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Matip, Salah) & (Bailly & Valencia).

Lingard has often been used in these sorts of games to perform a specific job. I dont rate Mhkitariyan on the right flank and think even less of his defensive capacities.

Anyways, we'll find out on the day: long time to go and all sorts of injuries and mishaps may happen during next 2 weeks

Yeah, but they play at home, going to attack, with their crowd… Not the same context for fatigue.

This is where Jose reveals that he told Lukaku, Martial and Rashford to train together for the big away matches.

1-0 to us, Fellaini 99th minute from an offside cross please.

He's our anchor, can't go about doing that. Herrera's the guy for that job.

Fellaini could also do the job and in reality if Pogba was fit Fellaini would start anyway. So if a player is man marking it would probably be Fellaini. Herrera might start but if Pogba was fit I doubt he'd be playing so I'm not convinced. Mata has also been very good this season so I don't think he's easily taken out of the team.

Looking at city form, there I see pressure on us to win this.

    Expected line-up:
    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Jones Young
    Matic
    Herrera Fellaini
    Mkhi Lukaku Martial
Martial has to play this game as he'll get plenty of chances to run against defenders in one-on-one situations. Mkhi has to be the creative outlet releasing the ball to Lukaku and Martial on the counter. Fellaini will be making runs into the box with Matic and Herrera providing cover for the defense. I'm feeling a bit confident about this game mainly because we have been devastating on the counter.

Now we'll see how much we've improved from laat season. We haven't played any very good teams yet. Just a shame we're going into this test without Pogba.

    Herrera must start.

If there's ever a guaranteed defeat, this is it. Away at Anfield where we almost never play well, after an international break when we almost never play well, against a team that is perfect for punishing our weakness at the full-back positions... We're going to park the bus, concede after increasing pressure and then concede one more when we're chasing the game. 2-0 Liverpool.

I hope I'm wrong but I feel we have as much a chance of winning as Martial has of starting.

Their weakness is in defence. We should go with an attacking team and they simply won't be able to handle it.

Park the bus and we're playing into their hands.

This shouldn't even be our first real test, they look poor and are there for the taking.

Hate international break with a passion.

Normally I do, and it's annoying having to wait 2 weeks until we play again - but I feel as if we need this break. Hopefully there won't be any injuries over the break, but I just see it as a week less to play without Pogba.

I think we will struggle a bit here. If we lose, at least we can take pleasure in knowing that for them it will be on again. Then we can laugh when the fail.

    That's the spirit!

We have a good record at Anfield in recent years. Much better than any other big club that's for sure.

I am quite pissed we play against Liverpool after international break. We never play well after that.

Personally I'm not looking forward to this. I might feel a bit better after the Newcastle game... or not.

Also, yet another international break, really, they can all feck off.

I know it’s Anfield but I can’t help but think this will be a convincing win.

Their defence is a shambles and our attack has every tool to cause it real damage.

Our wide players should give their fullbacks more than enough to think about and limit the support for their attacking players. Lukaku will score a header or two.

All the while our defence should limit their chances.

    0-3

What is our record after international breaks in the last 2 or 3 years? I have a feeling it’s bad. We are always sloppy after them for some reason.

I think I read somewhere that we haven't won a single game in PL coming off an International break under Mourinho, the only points we've dropped this season were at Stoke after an Int'l break.

This is the worst possible place to go to, you know they'll be up for it. Expect their dodgy defence to play out of their skins and contest every second ball as if their lives depended on it. Big test of our title credentials.

Also, why are people advocating dropping Mkhitaryan in favor of Lingard? Rashford is absolutely nailed to play as a LW to help the full back cope with the pace of Salah. Having Lingard would completely take away any threat on counter. Mkhi is frustrating as he loses a lot of possession but with Pogba out he's the only guy who can set us up for a quick break.

Formation is a big question, Fellaini's form is too good for him to be dropped but we also need Herrera's tenacity in the middle. I think he'll go with a normal back four with Darmian as a LB and Matic, Herrera, Fellaini in the middle. Rashford, Lukaku, Mkhitaryan up top.

I hope so but when have we turned up at Anfield and rolled them over? Whenever either side turn up at Anfield thinking it's their to lose opposite happens. See 2014/15 fixture under LVG and also last season under Mourinho.

They always always raise their game for us whenever we play them, very much like City. I still remember City midgets winning lots of aerial duels and almost every 2nd ball when we played them early last season. This lot will be no different, it's not been a great start for them but a win over their biggest rival and everything will be forgotten.

We are an in-form team because of very stable first xi with very few changes. Although I think there will be changes to cope with Liverpool's attack, I don't believe that we should tinker with our setup to handle opposition. Our opponents used to do that under SAF era and not us. We will be paying way too much respect to them if we play like lets say Darmian, who hasn't featured recently or Herrera who is also not much involved.

We go in this fixture with momentum and with us trying to fix something which ain't broken, would be an indication to pool to have a real go at us.

I don't think I've ever looked forward to a Liverpool game.
I'm always so frightened of defeat.

I'm having good feelings about this game so that obviously means we'll lose in a horrible way.

First big test of the season. A lot of questions about how good we actually are this season will be answered in this game.

I don't think all those questions will be answered in that one match to be honest. I mean at the end of the day you can just have a bad game, like any other day, without that defining your quality or your season.

I don't really rate the Scousers as a team overall (good going forward, shit at the back) but they have a knack for raising their performance against the other big teams. They were even playing well at the Emptihad till Mane got sent off. So yeah I agree that it's the first real test.

Off the back of an international break it's going to be shit. Hope we don't pick up anymore injuries.
Same thing every year, would be nice if they at least put a couple buffer games in for once. We have zero form atm.
Aren't you playing quite well? Think you'll thump Newcastle later and that would help the confidence a bit.

Feck, it's going to feel like a long wait for this.

I hope we can go there with a fit first XI (minus Pogba I guess).

A draw wouldn't be the worst result given that we are doing the business against the rest of the league.

International football should be abolished. It's shite and boring. I haven't watched an International since I came to Japan 12 years ago. Being on TV at 3am doesn't help, I suppose.
2 weeks until the next game because if that nonsense.

We allowed a dodgy Everton side to have 3 one on ones vs De Gea and we hardly looked rock solid that second half against Southampton either. Both teams caused us plenty of problems in midfield as well. I'm not sure why people are so convinced that our defense is solid...

Now we'll play against a Liverpool side with a Coutinho who gets to roam freely between our midfield and defense, with Mane, Firminio and Salah being more then capable of causing us problems at the back. Our ability to hold on to the ball without Pogba is limited when we're under pressure. We'll soon find out if our defense is solid or not.

I think Mourinho will push Fellaini higher up the pitch as an outlet.

Mata was dropped for the 4-3-3 at Stoke, he'll be the first out if we abdicate possession.

People thinking we're going to press high and keep them in their own half must be delusional. Have you ever watched Mourinho play at anfield?

This is a soak pressure/long balls game, if there ever was one. Mourinho was clear about how to deal with Ajax pressing, just skip midfield altogether.
