I'd love to see this team start tonight (I think they're all fit):

    -----------------------DDG

    Valencia-----Bailly----------Smalling------Shaw

    ---------------------Carrick

    -------------Herrera-------Pogba

    --Rashford----------------------------Martial
    -----------------------Ibra

    * harsh on Blind, Lingard and Mata to lose out as they've done well recently but the team above seems physical and fast enough to deal with Liverpool's pressing and pace on the counter, whilst offering pace and a counter attack threat of our own on the wing

    * Carrick to fill in for us missing Blind's passing from the back

    * I would love to see Mkhitaryan, but this might just be another City-like situation from him. Not had enough minutes in the league, brought back from injury into a high intensity match...

I think you cannot line up this team for few reasons.

1st, if Mourinho doesn't start Mata now, you leave your best player at the moment on the bench, and the only one who can really hurt Liverpool by his passing and moves. So I would rather start him on the right and replacing him with Rashford later in the game.

2nd, you cannot rely on Smalling, Bailly and Valencia to break their first line. You absolutely need Blind at center back. And with Sturridge and Firminho, you don't have magnificent speedsters so Blind can do it.

Carrick in Midfield? you lot having a laugh, they are going to come at us at a million miles an hour and in recent seasons weve been extremely weak against those kinds of teams.

Carrick is fantastic in games where we dominate play and posession, even Liverpool at their upmost shittest still tend to dominate games at Anfield, wed be lucky to come out with a draw let alone get a win, we have to be realistic, Klopp has them ticking at a rate of knots and we simply aren't there yet. Carrick has been slow and ponderous in play in these kinds of games and often makes unholy awkward defensive mistakes and Pogba wont be there to cover him, its not his game.

Herrera-Pogba midfield with Mata just in-front, It doesnt match their midfield well but it will have far more running and movement then Carrick in there. The key is defence.

Valencia-Bailly-Smalling-Blind has to be Shaw is a little out of sorts recently, and Blind offers a little more level headed approach.

Valencia has the industry and Bailly the brawn, Smalling with his legs though is a worry, I can imagine him giving away a pen.

As for up top it picks itself, I would have Rashford on the bench for this one, Martial out wide, Ibra at the top, Lingard on the right. Mata no.10, the movement would be brilliant, we need to test that ropey defence.

But we all know Fellaini will start.

Yeah, can't really complain against either of those points. Though I think Rashford's pace against Milner (assuming he's at LB for them) could cause Liverpool big problems.

Agreed re Blind. His passing is so crucial for us in these games. Maybe instead of rushing Shaw back, Blind might start at LB again. Mane's pace could cause him a few problems, but Smalling/Bailly are pretty adept at cover spaces.

Either way, it's going to be an intriguing tactical battle. We all know how Pool will come out and play.

They'll come out flying still high on port-filled bottles of Lucozade and crystal meth, and we won't be able to cope. The game will be over in the first half I reckon. 3-0.

In all seriousness though, I can't even imagine that we'll be looking anywhere near as clueless as we did against City, when they more or less did the same thing everybody knows Liverpool will be trying to do tonight.

There's simply no excuse if we're end up looking shell shocked out there tonight, given the amount of time we've had to prepare for this moment.

All the pundits and "experts" seems to think we're no chance tonight. Even Scholes is tipping Liverpool to win. The money is pouring on them with the bookies. The bookies will be smiling wide when we do them. We're almost 3/1 to win which is ridiculous in a game of this magnitude, with the players we have, and the pressure is all on Liverpool to play up to very high expectations.

Mourinho is going to love this win as much as our fans. He loves pissing off the scousers on their home turf.

1-0 Man Utd with plenty of crying from them about the biased Mancunian referee. ;)

Never an easy place for United to go, even SAF struggled many a time with the setup and tactics. But i have a feeling United will show their class.

All valid arguments. Carrick's always struggled against teams who's pressed us aggressively. Though the memory being a bit hazy and all, didn't he start at the infamous Juanfield, where our midfield did quite well last season? I suppose this is an entirely different Pool proposition we're facing. I'd have thought with better movement ahead of him, he'd still be able to launch us onto the front foot with his passing.

I hope Fellaini doesn't start, though you could really see the use of him as well. Especially in a similar to set up to LvG's - just not as a DM, because things could get ugly, fast :nervous:

Mourinho adores games like this, he lives for them. Everybody think we'll lose, Anfield will want his head, atmosphere will be electrifying, they will run around like madmen. Jose will think of something.

Hope to see Shaw at LB to cope with Mane. Would quite like a 3 in midfield, possibly Blind, Herrera, Pogba. Then Mata, Martial, Ibra. Rash and Mkhi on the bench.

will it really though? They kept banging on about this on TalkSport and i think its a bit of a nonsense. I understand they spend 5 minutes singing YAWN, then again around halftime/2nd half kick off..but what else goes on there really?

Dont get me wrong, i'm not for a second trying to make out like OT is some pinnacle of atmosphere, cos it isnt..its awful... but this whole 'electric' atmosphere that is being spoken about is a bit over the top....flags dont make noises when waved....

Why? He's the best on the ball when under pressure alongside Blind.

Carrick never could deal with teams that press quickly, never mind now when he's barely played and in the twilight or his career.

I agree, Anfield isnt half as noisy as its put out to be. I just think it will be like that cause United is in town. If nothing our away fans will make it electrifying. :)

Won't need United fans for that - the atmosphere will be brilliant, let's see how your boys handle it.

I disagree. I think he handles pressing teams well by maintaining composure and winning back the tempo of the game to our favour. Assured legs is what you need alongside an energetic midfield when facing high press teams. Not just erratic pairs of legs running everywhere like headless chickens.

If you had Herrera and Pogba as the box to box players (with Pogba given a role to join the attack when we have the ball), then Carrick can do a great job making sure the opposition doesn't dictate tempo, and maintaining ball retention even when under pressure from the opposition. West Ham last year comes to mind - last ever home game for the opposition, and we looked a completely different team when someone as assured as Carrick was on to steady the ship. Up until then we were batting around like headless chickens.

Yep. That's the way I see things too.

We're not going into this game against Barca with superior players or something. We're going in with better players and if we get things right we should do wonders.

Reading some posts in here is quite surprising. Some people treating Liverpool like Pep's Barcelona
"We have better players so if out of nowhere we'll look like a proper cohesive unit out there we'll do wonders"

That's not how it works. You have better players indeed but Liverpool has simply been a better team this season. Not that form matters in these games anyway. I can't fault people on here saying they're afraid of getting hammered. I'm afraid of getting slaughtered by United as well, just lucky that's far less likely to happen this time around.

Nope having better players compensate for you guys having a better team.

It'd have been worse if we went in with similar quality players while you guys have a better team due to having worked together longer and having the manager ideas starting gelling well with his players due to the amount of time he's spent with his squad.

So because as a team we're not quite there due to a new manager and new players, it's better to compensate that with quality players plus the proper tactic and set up on the day, that's all we can do for now at this stage.

I'm placing my bet with Bet365 and I have actually placed a £10k bet on Arsenal to be in top 4 when their odds was 1.72, ridiculous back then I thought when they always finish in top 4. I will usually cover 1 or 2 more teams to finish in top 4, and add it to an accumulator as a cover if their odds are too low. I actually prefer such bets to one off matches as its over a course of a duration and you can cover the bet if things don't go your way. I did that 2 years ago when we were going head to head with Liverpool for top 4 under LVG's first season and it reached a point when we were in danger of losing out on top 4, Liverpool and us had the same odds at close to evens so I covered them with an accumulator. Fortunately, we managed to beat Liverpool and go on a winning streak. 1.83 is too tempting now. Thinking whether I should place the bet now or after the Liverpool match. If we lose, it will definitely go above 2, if we win, it will drop to somewhere like 1.5 or below again so I'm caught in a dilemma now. A draw is probably the best result from a betting perspective for this.

This does not make sense. Bet365 will not accept a £100k bet from you. Also, how is it possible that you're sweating over £1.5k in a Champions League bet but feel comfortable to risk £100k on something as risky as this?

    Think he said £10k,

    Think he said £10k,
Nope, definitely said he was going to put £100k on United to finish top 4 on bet365. Also, he previously stated that he was betting over £80k on Germany at World Cup and that his standard stakes for Champions League games were sometimes 10 times that. Not necessarily saying that he is lying, just pointing out that £100k will not be accepted at bet365. Also, why was he stressed over £1.5k bet in CL the other week and it's apparently pocket money? The whole story is ceasing to make sense and feels more and more like someone who's trying to impress people with his multi-million stakes. He might be putting them but I don't feel it's necessary to come on an Internet forum and brag about this for months.

Not my business really, but it just feels a bit strange.

Ah right, i only saw the quote you mentioned which had nothing to do with us or 100k ...''I'm placing my bet with Bet365 and I have actually placed a £10k bet on Arsenal''

    my bad..

Well, he's been putting millions of pounds on football each month, just don't feel that it is possible at bet365. @Spiersey would probably know about this and he would probably shed a light if it's at all possible to win several million there without being noticed.

We need to play 3 in midfield today. Get either Carrick or Schneiderlin in along with Herrera and Pogba, otherwise we'll get killed in midfield.

    1-0 to United

Henderson does a no-look backpass in the 90th minute, Rooney latches onto it and scores. Pundits declare Rooney is back and he is the best United player of all time.

Back to the game though, I don't have high expectations for this one. The way we've played so far this season I would not be surprised to see us grab a 1-0 win here or get hammered 5-0. Just hoping it won't be the latter, Klopp and this Liverpool team are capable of handing out a hiding and I don't want it to be specifically us to find ourselves at the end of it.

My all time favourite Liverpool moment will always be Stevie G's 38 second cameo in his last ever derby when they were also humiliated by a rampant United. Will never forget that game.

Edit: Ha ha. How weird! Just seen @#07's post above.

Rumour is Wijanldum and Lallana will both miss the game.
Talk of Moreno playing left back, just a rumour but if he does we are doomed.

High rollers use these sites all the time though. John Higgins is a fecking snooker player and he just rang up bookies using his vip account to place ridiculous size bets.
Isn't it that they minitor for the consistant long odds winners rather than the big wagers on obvious bets?
They would hardly baulk at 10k when they have millions placed already and lay them off at the exchange.

No way? Feck me :( 2/3 of our midfield out in the most important game of the season so far..

Hendo more advanced with Can in for Wijnaldum but replacing Lallana is difficult. You'd need to bring Coutinho in and shift Firmino out wide to play Sturridge or something like that but I don't want to change anything about our front three.

I'm surprised you're not more worried by the fact that post mentions Moreno at LB.
