What he briefs the media with & what he could well end up doing are likely two separate things.

    Don't get so easily offended.
It's hardly offensive. Im not sure you've got the correct word but I take your point in the first sentence.

Happy with the match day squad - Rashford was always likely to be out so just pleased that Martial and Cavani are deemed fit enough to be included.

The starting XI is a bit of a worry. I expected Rashford to be missing, Shaw to be rested, and only one of Fernandes and Pogba to start - so it's not a surprise. But we're obviously without some key performers and it's got a few players who haven't been playing and who aren't 100% match fit / sharp - Telles, Pogba, VdB, Martial.

Compare that to Leicester's XI which looks their first choice of available players. That, added to our match on Thursday and their free week, makes them the favourites in my view.

Or he just tries to positively influence the game instead of drifting through it? I like the premise of Van de Beek and what he can offer but he needs to take his chance. There’s no use getting excuses in before he starts.
Wha? No pressure then. That's ridiculous. "Okay Donny, you haven't played in a couple of months, we've stripped you of any confidence you had by keeping you sat on the bench even when we were knackered, but if you don't have a stormer today you'll be back on the bench." They guy needs a run of games, in a row, before we can start making a call on whether he's the guy or not.

    3-2 vs the dippers

Actually looking at it. Have we ever lost a game they've both started? Beat Everton and West Ham with them starting too
Ah, that’s right, thanks. I think this is interesting as Pogba will have a more offensive role compared to the Liverpool game. Have a feeling Pogba is good for Donny.

You mean they got worse? We were heavier favourites earlier on this week.
I don't think we were that much of a heavy favourite, it was pretty evenly balanced, or at least from what I remember. Maybe you are right as I had us to win/draw in our accumulator later in the week. But after the teamsheet is released, the odds on us to win now is at 2.69 and Leicester at 2.60 and us to qualify to the next round went from 1.54 to 1.82. This is usually not a good sign as last minute changes in betting odds usually reflect some insider info from the bookie that turns out to be accurate.

Need a big game from Pogba today if we are going to win, bit worried about Martial and Greenwood as they haven’t been hitting a lot of goals this season and Vardy notched up 3 assists and Iheanacho a hat trick in their last game plus will be fresher with no midweek game. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a cautious approach.

    1-0 United I hope...

I'm surprised he hasn't tried for one last hurrah from the first choice players before the internationals, but fair enough. I'm excited to see vdB most of all.

I think Greenwood has been quite good lately, even though he has mainly hit the posts or outside posts.

Glad to see Fernandes getting a rest as he looked like he needed it. I Hope Pogba is fit enough to fill in for him.

Fred and Matic should be a decent pairing, certainly an improvement on the Matic + Mctominay partnership that fails to produce the goods every single time.

Definitely, it's just a shame all out guys up top got injured at the same time otherwise we could have rested him.

    Aren't these just friendlies anyway?

England have more than enough depth to not play someone that's been injured for months.
WC qualifiers but with the first two being San Marino and Albania, almost like friendlies.

Southgate should be able to use those first two games to tinker/try other players and still have more than enough. Play the Kanes, Rashfords, Sterlings, Maguire's, etc for one or the other to be ready for Poland but still get a bit of a rest.

    Assuming Southgate is sensible.

Hope you’re wrong! I put money on when I saw the odds went out to 1.8, seems a touch long to me especially as your key players who haven’t started are all on the bench. That said, I made that bet on a whim which I don’t ordinarily do and probably should have accounted more for the extra rest factor.

Bit surprised by the team, only got 5 right after getting 4 x 11/11 on the bounce : (
with a full 7 days off after this game i thought Bruno and Shaw would play but fair enough selection after a trip to Italy 3 days ago/.

Anyone who calls Ole selfish and about job preservation after this game I'm going to hunt you down

Good luck to you mate and thank you for having faith in us and I hope we don't let you down! I just doubled down on my bet as well as we have an extremely great record against Leicester. Unbeaten against them since 2014. 9 wins and 4 draws in our last 13 meetings.

I'm very happy that Bruno and Shaw are getting a rest. Let's hope we won't see them on the pitch at all.

7 days off? Those two have three international games each in the next 10 days.

Rob Green talking like he had a glittering career. Going on like he's big Pete.

Makes sense we rotate and bring on the big guns later in the game after playing Thursday.

Some very strange decisions from Ole - particularly leaving Bruno out. Not sure martial can do the business up front, Cavani is so much cleverer with his runs and reading of the game

Everyone has been calling for Bruno to be rested, today is as good of a day as any.

Aside from the little piece of insight on De Gea resting back on his heels a little as he tends to go with his feet, that was a pretty dogshit 5 minutes of analysis from Green.

You'd think someone who's player keeper at that level would be able to highlight the differences between their styles.

I didn’t see this eleven coming...
Really thought DDG was going to play.
Never thought Donny and Pogba would start. Am happy about it though.
I hoped he would rest Shaw but didn’t think he would.
Thought he would play Bailly. Is he injured or is there something going on behind closed doors?
Daily Mirror has Bailly at "having had enough of Ole"

Interesting to see Donny with Pogba. It was always my suspicion that Donny was bought to understudy Bruno rather than replace Pogba like the narrative seems to be. The problem for Donny is that Bruno wants to start and finish every match.

Rob Green talking like he had a glittering career. Going on like he's big Pete.

To be honest, I stopped listening to whatever he was saying and listened to the Mogwai track that was playing in the background instead.

    You’re replying to something I didn’t say.

I don’t understand your issue either. Do you expect him to play well or not? If you don’t then I’m not convinced you think too highly of him. I want him to play well today and maybe get on the score sheet, or set up a goal. He needs to affect the game.

Getting all wound up before he even plays is a little odd.

He’s a very good pundit actually. He was excellent on Monday Night Football the other night. It’s rare we get to hear from goalkeepers in relation to the mechanics of the position. All we usually hear is shoulda done better from eejits like Souness and Keane.
