He deserved the sack, or at least it made enough sense to expect this wouldn't improve enough, especially over an option like Amorim for this squad.
But while it was a problem for a while after his return from injury, the end of last season and the start of this one really had him play and confide in Amad. But after a while, and with the return of Garnacho, besides that Amad didn't hit the ground running this season, it also wasn't that odd to use Garnacho and Rashford as more standard wingers/forwards for a while, either.

Pretty much expected this. Ipswich aren't great but they are well drilled.
We’ve made 2-3 other decent shooting chances since then. Eriksen and Garnacho both had decent shots. It’s early but you can also see the lay it off and run behind from Garnacho down the left channel.- Status
